HARTLEY W. WILCOX
FILLMORE - Hartley W. “Slim” Wilcox of 10789 Route 19, Fillmore, died Tuesday (Nov. 20, 2001) in The Waters of Houghton after a long illness.
Born Feb. 9, 1913, in Clarksville, he was a son of John and Mildred Reynolds Wilcox. In 1940 in Fillmore, he married the former Margaret A. McElroy, who survives.
Mr. Wilcox was a farmer and a horse lover. Before his retirement, he was a construction worker for A.L. Blades & Sons.
He was a life member of Brooks Hose Fire Department in Fillmore.
Surviving besides his wife are two brothers, Kenneth Wilcox of Waynesboro, Va., and Lyle Wilcox of Silver Springs; two sisters, Ople (Robert) Gollnitz of Westfield and Violet Sonnleitner of Hunt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Joyce Wolfer, Alvira Lilly and Anna Tisdale; and five brothers, Virgil Wilcox, Lowell Wilcox, Homer Wilcox, Howard Wilcox and Leon Wilcox.
Friends were received Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the KoplerWilliams Funeral Home, 21 N. Genesee St., Fillmore, where funeral services were held Saturday (Nov. 24, 2001) at 11 a.m. The Rev. David Hotchkiss, pastor of the Conesus United Church officiated. Burial was in Alger Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Brooks Hose Fire Department.
DORIS JEAN WILLIAMS
OLEAN - Doris Jean Williams of 314 N. Second St., Apt. 1, died Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001) in the Erie County Medical Center, Buffalo, from injuries sustained in a truck-pedestrian accident on North Union Street on Friday.
Born June 14, 1932, in Vernon, Texas, she was a daughter of Larry and Linne Yocum Blackman.
Mrs. Williams graduated from high school in Dermott, Ark. and moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked in a drug store for many years. She later moved to Ocean View, Del., and was part owner and operator of William's Country Store in Concord, Del., and Jim's Gas Station and Country Store in Seaford, Del. She moved to Olean in 1990 to be close to her sister
Mrs. Williams will be remembered as a person who enjoyed being outdoors, including hunting and fishing and being around the water.
Surviving are seven brothers, W.A. Blackman of Clarksville, Ark., Starling M. Blackman of Denver, Bennie Ray Blackman of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Otis Blackman, Ernest L. Blackman and Leonard Blackman, all of Las Vegas, Nev., and Brian E. Blackman of Denver; three sisters, Nadenie Carrington Blackman of Las Vegas, Betty L. Srodawa of Hinsdale and Ruth Virginia Gdovin of Denver; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Enoch M. Black, on May 17, 2000; and James Oliver, on June 7, 1942.
Friends were received at the Letro-McIntosh-Spink Funeral Home Inc., 646 E. State St., Olean, on Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2001) from 1 to 3 p.m., at which time funeral and committal services were held. Father Barry Allaire, pastor of St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Hinsdale, officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
ALFRED AVERYS
ALLENTOWN - Alfred Averys, 87, of State Route 417, Allentown, died Thursday (May 16, 2002) in the Wellsville Manor Care Center.
He was born May 22, 1914, in Manhattan and was married on May 24, 1940, in New York City of Isabelle Shelmidine, who survives.
Mr. Averys was a former resident of Rockaway Beach and came to Allentown in 1998.
He had been employed as a bridge painter for Structural Steel Union Local 806 in New York City. After retirement, he painted houses in the New York City area for 10 years.
Mr. Averys enjoyed walking beaches and bicycling, and he was a former volunteer fireman in Roxbury.
Surviving besides his wife of Allentown are two daughters, Janet (Robert) Noblin of Brooklyn and Lorraine (John) Walsh of Allentown; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by three sons, Alfred Averys, Charles Averys and Robert Averys.
Friends called Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc., Wellsville, where funeral services were held Monday (May 20, 2002) at 11 am Roberta Baker officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellsville.
Memorials may be made to the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department or the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
ELIZABETH A. BAKER
ERIE, Pa. - Elizabeth A. Baker, 84, of 1351 Top Road died Thursday (May 16, 2002) in the Sunrise Assisted Living facility in Erie.
Born Jan. 20, 1918, in Wellsville, she was a daughter of Jeremiah and Kathryn Kane Shine. On Jan. 22, 1947, in Wellsville, she married Leo C. Baker who died on Aug. 16, 1997.
Mrs. Baker was a former resident of Wellsville and Warren, Pa. She was a member of St. Jude the Apostle Church in Erie.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Nancy) Baker of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joseph (Cindy) Baker of Wellsville; a daughter, Jeanne Baker of Erie; eight grandchildren, Justin, Elizabeth, Leah and Thomas of Cincinnati and Kristina, Timothy, Elizabeth and Matthew of Wellsville; a brother, Walter (Irene) Shine of Wellsville; two sisters, Helen (George) LaChance and Gertrude O'Brien, both of Wellsville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Baker, in 1978; four brothers, Joseph, Paul, William and Bernard Shine; and three sisters, Margaret Shine, Kathryn Shine and Dorothy Spellicy.
Friends called on Monday (May 20, 2002) from 10 to 10:30 am at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc., in Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday at 11 am in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville with the Rev. Dennis Wolf officiating. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Wellsville.

PATRICIA M. BOOTH
CUBA - Patricia M. Booth, formerly of Cuba, died Wednesday (May 15, 2002) in the Edna Tina Wilson Living Center, Greece, NY, following a lengthy illness.
Born in the town of Clarksville on April 1, 1916, she was a daughter of Glenn and Alice Haines Jordan. In 1942, she married Virgil Booth, who died Feb. 28, 1988.
Mrs. Booth had lived most of her life in Cuba before moving to Largo, Fla., in 1978. In 1998 she moved to Rochester (Greece) .
She had been employed as a waitress until she was 74 years old.
Mrs. Booth was a member of the Cuba American Legion Post 655 Auxiliary.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald (Kathleen) Booth, Sr. of Rochester and Thomas Booth of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Marla (Ed) Holcomb of Largo; four grandchildren, Stacey (Andrew) Saxman, Ronald (Rebecca) Booth Jr. and Suzon (Tim) Youngkrans, all of Rochester, and Kirk Booth of Gainesville, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Steven Saxman, Nichols Saxman, Kathryn Saxman, Mitchell Saxman, Colton Youngkrans and Brooke Youngkrans, all of Rochester, several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Elenor Clemens; and two brothers, Paul Howard and Henry Clark.
There was no public visitation. Friends attended a memorial service Monday (May 20, 2002) at 11 am in the McIntosh Funeral Home (Nicholson Chapel), 24 Genesee Parkway, Cuba. The Rev. Larry A. Poelma, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, officiated. Burial was in Cuba Cemetery.

ALLYN CLARK
ARCADE - Allyn D. Weeps Clark, 81, of 20 Clough Ave. died Sunday (May 19, 2002) .
Born Jan. 13, 1921, in Scio, he was a son of Omar and Georgianna Clark. On July 9, 1960, in Arcade, he married the former Ruth A. Harrington, who died in 1992.
Mr. Clark was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired highway department worker for the village of Arcade.
He was a life member of Arcade VFW Post 374.
Surviving are two stepsons, Gary Baker of Friendship and Ronald Baker of Freedom; five stepgrandchildren; several step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sisters, Jane Shirley Giarratano and Ruth Costello.
There was no visitation. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship.
