Olga E. Nelson
Olga E. Nelson, 96, of Heritage Park Health Care Center, formerly of Greenhurst, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) in the care center. Coming to Jamestown at the age of 14, she was born April 24, 1903, in Kalmar, Sweden, the daughter of Olaf and Anna Turnquist Hultin.
She was a lifelong member of the Zion Covenant Church where she taught the Swedish Bible Class for many years.
Surviving are two daughters: May E. Morrison of Jamestown and Ruth D. Hedstrand of Lakewood; seven grandchildren: Nancy Thunberg of California, David Thunberg of Jamestown, Susan Intihar of Indian Trail, N.C., Cindy Rankin of Wintergarden, Fla., John Hedstrand of Falconer, Mark Hedstrand of Frewsburg and Robert Hedstrand of Busti; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thure E. Nelson, whom she married Aug. 20, 1926, and who died Oct. 29, 1989; a grandson David R. Thunberg, 1992; four brothers; and one sister. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. David H. Vennberg, visitation pastor of Zion Covenant Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Zion Covenant Church, 520 Fairmount Ave., W.E., Jamestown, N.Y. 14701.
M. Gerald Quinn Jr.
KENNEDY - M. Gerald Quinn Jr., 56, of 228 Route 394, died at 10:02 a.m. Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) in WCA Hospital.
He was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Buffalo, the son of M. Gerald and Lorraine Demrow Quinn Sr.
He was a 1960 graduate of Silver Creek Central School, a 1964 graduate of Alfred University and earned his master in business administration from Loyola University in Chicago. From 1964 to 1967 he served as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army working on the Red Eye Missile Project.
He was employed by Loranger Manufacturing Corporation in Warren for 23 years as a manufacturer's representative.
He was a member of the Christian Bowhunter's serving as treasurer, the Smith Mills Game Farm, Federation of Fly Fishers and was an officer of the Red House Brook Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was very artistic working with scrimshaw, jewelry design, engraving and woodcarvings. He also handcrafted bamboo fly rods.
Surviving are his wife the former Linda Pentheny whom he married Nov. 20, 1977, three daughters: Ellen R. Mason of Newton, Maine, Lorraine H.. Quinn of San Diego, Calif., and Kathleen B. Quinn, a student at Allegany College, Meadville, Pa.; a granddaughter, Kelsea M. Mason of Newton, his mother of Cape Coral, Fla.; and a sister, Susan Miller of Arkwright, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shelia Maclaurin Quinn, his father; and a sister, Nancy Quinn. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Westminister Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Richard B. Ross, interim pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Silver Creek. Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. today in the Lind Funeral Home. Michelle Delite Shreffler
WICHITA, Kan. - Michelle Delite Shreffler, 22, of Gerry, formerly of Vestal, N.Y., Youngstown, Ohio, and Mechanicsburg, Pa., died Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) in St. Francis Hospital, the result of injuries received in a car accident. She is the daughter of the Rev. Samuel F. and Darlene R. Clark Shreffler of Gerry. Arrangements are to be announced by the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville.
Duretha Grey
DUNCAN, Okla. - Word has been received of the death of Duretha Colley Grey, 81, formerly of Allegany, Frewsburg and Texas, who died Sept. 6, 1999, in Durango, Colo. A Duncan resident the past two years, she was born March 5, 1918, in Hinsdale, N.Y., the daughter of Charles and Catherine Osgood Colley. She had been actively involved in building houses in Allegany and Frewsburg with her husband until retirement in Texas. A devoted wife and mother, she had an interest in things of nature and was a watcher of birds and all wildlife. In 1989 she was named Volunteer of the Year by Retama Manor in Alice, Texas, where she volunteered in the Alzheimer Unit.
Surviving are three daughters: Lois Long of Albuquerque, N.M., Juliet Mason of Russell, Karen Flores of Gibsonia, Pa.; two sons: David Grey of Duncan, Sanford Grey of Bayfield, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; a sister, Violet Hillary of North Java, N.Y.; and one brother, Charles Colley of Titusville, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Grey, whom she married in August 1936 in Olean, and who died Feb. 2, 1989. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Hiram E. Pratt
Hiram E. Pratt, 97, of 29 South Allegheny Ave., W.E., died at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 9, 1999) in WCA Hospital. A life long area resident he was born Nov. 27, 1901, in the town of Ellington, the son of Truman and Mable Cutting Pratt.
He was formerly employed by Pearl City Mills for 25 years and retired in 1970 from Sterling Corp. where he was employed for 12 years. He attended the Garfield Road Christian Fellowship Church of God in Jamestown.
Surviving are five daughters: Marian French of Greenhurst, Elizabeth "Betty" McChesney of Falconer, Jane Minton of West Ellicott, Elsie Lee of Brocton and Susan Grey of Celoron; 18 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel E. Carlson Pratt, whom he married Aug. 28, 1922 and who died July 27, 1991; a son Morris Pratt, Aug. 8, 1983; a daughter, Marie Pratt, May 11, 1938; two grandchildren: Cynthia Henry, April 12, 1964 and David Pratt, March 25, 1994; a sister, Blanche Pratt, Dec. 19, 1982; and two brothers: Merton, Aug. 29, 1959, and Lucian Pratt. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown. The Rev. Ogden S. McClimans Jr, pastor of Garfield Road Christian Fellowship Church of God, will officiate.

Nina J. Samuelson
Nina J. Samuelson, 85, of 428 South Ave., died at 10:25 p.m. Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) in WCA Hospital. The wife of Raymond F. Samuelson, she had been employed in the guidance department of the Jamestown Board of Education, retiring in 1953. Arrangements will be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
Clarence H. Young
WATERTOWN, N.Y. - Clarence H. Young, 99, of 24701 Route 54, formerly of 12121 W. Main St., Randolph, died Monday (Nov. 8, 1999) in the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home.
He was born Feb. 22, 1900, in Randolph, the son of Floyd F. and Rose Helmick Young. A graduate of Randolph Central School and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1927, he was employed in the invention laboratory of American Telephone and Telegraph Bell in Murry Hill, N.J.
He was a past master of the Free and Accepted Masons in Mountain View, N.J. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his computer and keeping in touch with people on the internet.
Surviving are five daughters: Anne Ebbrecht of Dexter, N.Y., Ila Sterling of Lady Lake, Fla., Claris Chetjerkin of Dagsboro, Del., Margaret Myers of Skaneateles, N.Y., Marion Jorgensen of Harvard, Mass.; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Florence B. Brace Young, whom he married June 16, 1927, and who died Feb. 14, 1995. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church of Randolph. The Rev. Dale E. Moore, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in the Randolph Cemetery. Annabelle Lois Chase Anthony
PITTSFIELD, Pa. - Annabelle Lois Chase Anthony, 67, of RD 1, Pittsfield, died Tuesday (Oct. 5, 1999) in her home.
She was born Dec. 12, 1931, in Youngsville, the daughter of the late Guy and Mabel Johnson Chase.
She was a 1950 graduate of Youngsville High School and graduated from Cleveland Bible College (now Malone College) in 1955.
She was a lifelong member of the Brown Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church in Youngsville.
She was employed in the office at Warren General Hospital as a nurse's aid at the Rouse Manor and a substitute teacher in the Youngsville School District.
She was also a teacher and assistant principal at Ashville Christian Academy in Ashville.
Surviving are her son, Bradley Anthony of Pittsfield; three sisters: Susan Ludwick and Rae Lindell, both of Lander; her twin sister, Idabelle Swanson of Tionesta, Pa.; and two brothers: Ned and Alton Chase, both of Sugar Grove.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Alfred Anthony, whom she married Oct. 13, 1956, and who died in 1992; three brothers: Guy, Oscar and Charles Chase; and one sister, Dorothy Slocum. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the McKinney Funeral Home in Youngsville. The Rev. John Kunselman, pastor of the Brown Hill Wesleyan Methodist Church, will officiate. Airman 1st Class Michael F. Emory
GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Airman 1st Class Michael F. Emory, 21, of 3833 Sherman-Ripley Road, Sherman, and Goldsboro, died Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) in Seven Springs, N.C.
He was born Dec. 26, 1977, in Jamestown, the son of Bryan and Brenda Marotto Emory.
He was a 1996 graduate of Sherman Central School and attended Jamestown Community College. In December 1996 he joined the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, as a nuclear armament apprentice. He enjoyed racing, hunting, snowmobiling and showing his 1998 red Pontiac Firebird, for which he had won many trophies.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Specialist Bryon Emory of Fort Bragg, N.C.; and a grandmother, Beatrice Marotto of Lakewood.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers: Frank Marotto and Virgil Emory; and grandmother, Dorothy Emory. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Sherman Community Church with the Rev. Thomas Price, pastor, officiating.

Eric Lynn Johnson, 37, of 332½ Foote Ave., died at 9:27 a.m. Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) in WCA Hospital. Survivors include a son, Aidan Johnson of Jamestown. Betty Lou Swan
Betty Lou Swan, 65, of 3103 N. Main St. Ext., died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 5, 1999) in WCA Hospital. An area resident most of her life, she was born May 17, 1934, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late John D. and Florence Williams Barger. Along with her husband she owned and operated Swan Painting for many years retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Samuel Derby Post 556 American Legion in Frewsburg, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Women of the Moose. In the late 1980s she sang with the Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed painting and ceramics.
Surviving are a daughter, Gayle Van Guilder of Celoron; five sons: Gene N. Swan Jr. of Falconer, Gary J. Swan of Sinclairville, Royce A. Swan of Kennedy, Norman K. and Kenneth N. Swan of Jamestown; 14 grandchildren: Gene Swan III, Amanda Swan, Jessica Swan, Matthew Swan, Kenneth Swan Jr., Jacob Swan all of Jamestown, Shane Swan of Falconer, Casey Monroe of Lyons, N.Y., Jodi Monroe of Lakewood, Stacie Swan of Boston, Gary Swan Jr. of Sinclairville, Royce Swan Jr., Crystal Swan and Chad Swan all of Kennedy; one great-grandson; two sisters: Lida Mitchell and Margaret Grazulewicz both of Jamestown.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Gene N. Swan Sr. whom she married Dec. 3, 1950, and who died May 29, 1985; a sister, Mabel Crossley; and three brothers: Jack, David and Ronald Barger. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. H. Robert Mitchell, pastor of Gerry Free Methodist Church, will officiate.
