6/8/2006 - Mertin D. Bemis, 85, of Route 426, Clymer, died may 31, 2006 in the Corry Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1920 in the Town of French Creek, the son of the late Gerald and Mabel Wallace Bemis.
He had owned and operated his dairy farm for more than 60 years and had made maple syrup. He was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church of Corry. Merton enjoyed his family, farming, making maple syrup and being in the woods and cutting firewood.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene Bayle Bemis, whom he married Nov. 26, 1949; six sons, Gordon and his wife, Linda, Philip and his wife, Lynne Bemis of Corry, Pa., Kevin Bemis of Estes, Park, Colo., Brian and his wife, Linda and Jeffrey and his wife, Claudia Bemis of Clymer and Jon and his wife, Jane, of Conway, Ark.; two daughters, Susan and her husband, Paul Spink of Auburn, N.Y. and Jennifer and her husband, Les Utegg of Corry; 29 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Bemis, who died June 11, 2004; a daughter, Kerry Watrous on July 10, 2004; and two brothers, Lyle and Orville Bemis.
Burial will be in Cutting Cemetery.

Charles E. Lucas
10/26/2006 - Charles E. Lucas, 75, formerly of Southland Ave., Lakewood, died Oct. 21, 2006 in the Heritage Village Health Care Center.
An area resident most of his life, he was born Sept. 26, 1931 in Corry, Pa., the son of the late Glenn and Bertha Crosscut Lucas.
He was a 1951 graduate of Corry High School and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Korea from 1952 to 1956. He had been employed by Anderson Screw Products for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
He was a member of the Zion Covenant Church, a life member of the Busti Lakewood Golden Agers and a former member of the Celoron Post 777 American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Watrous Lucas, whom he married July 20, 1956 in Corry; a son, Gary E. (Loretta) Lucas of Jamestown; a daughter, Debra S. (James) Delcamp of Brocton; three grandchildren, Tonya Gillis of North East, Pa., Timothy Gillis of Gowanda and Jacob Lucas of Jamestown; two step-granddaughters, Marcie Kelwaski of Westfield and Jamie Vacanti of Brocton; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Bell Hasbrouck, of Corry.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce A. Lucas, who died in 1989; and two sisters, Myrtle Blakeslee and Doris Dole.
Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Jake G. Saullo
10/26/2006 - Jake G. Saullo, 79, of Prather Ave., Jamestown, died October 20, 2006 in the Heritage Park HCC.
He was born in Jamestown on December 3, 1926, the son of Vincent and Mary Morgante Saullo. Jake was employed as an autobody technician at McFadden Ford for over 25 years, retiring in 1989. He previously lived in the Town of Dunkirk, where he was an assistant fire chief. He was a member of the Independent Italian American Club and was a former member of the Moose Lodge and was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Angeline Genco Saullo, whom he married on October 23, 1952, in North East, Pa., three sons: Jack (Deena) Saulo, Busti, John (Nancy) Saullo, Russell, Pa. and James Saullo, Stuart, Fla., two daughters: Annette (George) Sielski, Jamestown, and Judy (Harry) Netti, Dallas, Texas, 10 grandchildren: James Saullo, Jmaestown, Christopher Wilcox, Busti, Jacob and Ellin Saullo, Russell, Pa., Renae DeAngelo, Scotia, N.Y. Dana Saperito, Odenton, Md., Justin Netti, Jacksonville, Fla., Andrea Netti, Dallas, Texas, John Saullo Stuart, Fla. and Lindsey Saullo, Jensen Beach, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, and four sisters: Mary Warden and Jenny DePasquale, Jamestown, Della Griffin, Westfield and Esther Varvell, Calif.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmy Jon Saullo, by a brother, Jasper Saullo, and a sister, Josephine Myrick.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Robert B. Dimmer
10/26/2006 - Robert B. Dimmer, 75, of Washington Ave., Dunkirk, died unexpectedly Oct. 17, 2006 at home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1931 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Simon and Mildred (Schubarga) Dimmer.
Dimmer served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict on the U.S.S. Midway.
He retired from AL Tech Specialty Steel in 1993 and also had been employed seasonally by Loyal Oaks Greenhouse.
A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, he was a parishioner and bingo worker at Holy Trinity Church. He also was a member of American Legion Post 62 and the Moniuszko Club.
He had been an avid bowler and trapper.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen (Mark) Belcher of Brocton; four sons, Michael (Diane) Dimmer of Fredonia, Mark (Kathleen) Dimmer of Dunkirk, Paul (Mirna) Dimmer of Edgewood, Md. and Robert K. (Emily) Dimmer of Dunkirk; two sisters, Joyce (William) Taylor of New Jersey and Ann Lee McCoy of Nevada; one brother, James (Ardene) Dimmer of Forestville; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Lander) Dimmer, who died Nov. 5, 2000; and one sister, Marcelline Parsons.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Margarte Trippy Triscari
10/26/2006 - Margarte Trippy Triscari, 93, of the Heritage Park Health Care Center, formerly of 9 Crane St., Jamestown, died on Oct. 22, 2006 in the nursing facility.
She was born in Westfield on May 1, 1913 the daughter of Charles & Laura DiLeonardo Trippy. Margaret was employed as an inspector at the former Chautauqua Hardware for 12 years, retiring in 1978 and was previously employed at Fashion Clothes. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a member of AARP and the Jamestown Senior Citizens Travel Club.
Survivors include two daughters Dorothy (Nick) Mertes, Tarpon Springs, Fla. and Patricia Dispenza, Jamestown; five grandchildren, Richard Pacitti, Frewsburg, Steven Pacitti, Las Vegas, Nevada, Karen Napoli Odessa, Fla., Christopher Pacitti, Fayetteville, N.C. and Scott Guido, Jamestown; three great-granddaughters and a great-grandson; and a sister Concetta “Connie” Trippy, Westfield.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Triscari, who died on September 26, 1965 and by two sisters Rose Sciangula and Carolyn Guido and by five brothers Cosmo, Lawrence, James, Joseph and Frank Trippy.
A private family service will be held at the Hubert Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Stolinski, Parochial Vicar of St. James Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Ruth M. Stevens Brightman
10/19/2006 - Ruth M. Stevens Brightman, 75, of North Clymer, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on October 9, 2006.
She was the wife of Carl K. Brightman whom she married October 22, 1948 in Falconer. She presented herself to this world on June 16, 1931 as the eldest daughter of the late LaVerne and Bessie Petitt Stevens in Panama.
Ruth has been a homemaker and in earlier years sold Amway and Avon. Ruth attended Panama Central School until her junior year, when she studied in Buffalo while living with her aunt. She went onto get her G.E.D. from Panama Central School in 1968 while raising her family. This was an important goal to her. An accomplished crocheter, Ruth has made nearly 100 American Flags, including one that hangs in the office of Dr.Berke in Mayville. Among her many friends, Ruth enjoyed and relished her Amish friends. She was a member of the Mayville/Jamestown V.F.W. Auxiliary. Ruth was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan. She is remembered by many for her large pots of meatball stew, homemade breads and donuts.
In addition to her husband of 58 years surviving are three daughters, Colleen (David) Steward of Ashville, Deborah (Chuck) Barr of Buffalo Minn. and Kathryn (Wayne) Carroll of Jamestown; 10 sons, Delbert (Jen), George (Mary), Harry, William (Sheryl), Budd (Jane) and LaVerne Brightman all of Jamestown, Fred (Julie) Brightman of Otsego, Minn., James and Earl Brightman of Cassadaga, and Wayland Brightman of Sherman; seven grandchildren, Melissa Brightman, Yvonne Jacobs, Clint Brady, Carrie Montanez, Faith Farrar, Nathan Manhart and Michael Brightman; nine great grandchildren and nine step-grandchildren; four sisters, Martha Crumb, Esther Spinks, Sylvia Stevens and Gabby Yeager; and also many nieces, nephew and cousins.
Upon her arrival in Heaven, Ruth is holding her infant daughter, Maude Amy (1965) and was greeted by her son Carl (1987) and his mischievous smile. She is also having reunion with her parents, two sisters, Helen Turck (2000), Ida Asel (2006) and brothers Harry (1938) and Stanley (1995).

Tonia Alcorn Lincoln
6/1/2006 - Tonia Alcorn Lincoln, 48, of Hartfield, died May 5, 2006 in Bryon, Ga.
She is survived by her husband, David Lincoln; two sons, Jamie and Joshua; four grandchildren; four sisters, Annabelle Carris of Ripley, Flora Alcorn of Westfiled, Donna Eggleston of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Sandra Alcorn of Tuscon, Ariz.; three brothers, Frank Whiteneck of Union City, Pa., Bobby Alcorn of Allentown, Pa. and Roy Alcorn of Forestville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cora and Andrew (Jack) Alcorn; and a brother, Leon Alcorn.
A service was held May 8th in Bryon, Ga. There will be a local memorial service at a later date.
Victor Rivera Jr.
6/1/2006 - Victor Manuel Rivera Jr., 49, of Silver Creek, formerly of Dunkirk, died unexpectedly on May 24, 2006.
He was born March 28, 1957 in Dunkirk, the son of Victor Manuel and Helen Jane (Dloniak) Rivera Sr. He attended schools in Dunkirk and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was married to Jacqueline (Roberts) Rivera, who survives. He was a volunteer for bingo at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Dunkirk, was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, enjoyed reading, taking long walks in the woods and fixing bicycles in the park for children. He cherished his children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
He is survived by five sons, Victor Manuel Rivera III of Jamestown, Ryan Rivera of Jamestown, Brennen Rivera of Cassadaga, Hunter Rivera of Cassadaga, Parker Rivera of Cassadaga; two daughters, Jade Rivera of Jamestown and Randalea Rivera of Jamestown; three grandsons; two granddaughters; five sisters, Jane Solares of Silver Creek, Patricia Rivera of Westfield, Aloisia (Wally) Welka of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Maggie Garcia of Brocton and Hortensia Hunt of Dunkirk; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Angela Rivera; and a brother, John Paul Rivera.
Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Fredonia.

Emery F. Green
6/1/2006 - Emery F. Green, 60, of Nettle Hill Road, Sherman, formerly of Westfield, died unexpectedly May 25, 2006 at Westfield Memorial Hospital.
Green was born on June 29, 1945 in Leon, the son of Garrett and Pearl (Morgan) Green.
A northern Chautauqua County resident most all his life, he was a graduate of Westfield Academy and Central School and had taught woodworking at JCC during the late 1970s. He had been employed by Crawford Furniture in Jamestown as a finisher for many years. Emery enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid vegetable gardener. He greatly enjoyed photography and was an avid spade player. Emery was a humble man with a sarcastic streak who loved his family and in return they loved him.
He is survived by five daughters: Melanie Syper of Brocton, Amanda Deatherage of Arkansas, Angela Coccarelli of Clarion, Pa., Stephanie Green of Brocton, and Emily Green of Sherman, as well as by two sons: Douglas and Matthew Green both of Clarion, Pa.; by 12 grandchildren and his brother Garrett Green.
Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
