7/27/02 - FOSTER TOWNSHIP, PA : Betty L. Yonker, 78, of South Third Street, Foster Township, Pa., died July 27 in her home. She was born Oct. 15, 1923 in Sawyer, Pa., the daughter of Edward and Lulu Reddish Booth. She was a homemaker, attended Bradford schools and was a former member of Derrick City United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Joseph A. Yonker, whom she married Oct. 15, 1942, in Allegany; three sons, Gary J. Yonker of Sherman, Thomas E. Yonker of Bradford and Timothy L. Yonker of Eldred, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Booth Jr.; and a sister, Judy Wilson of Oneonta. Burial will be in Allegany, N.Y., Cemetery. Brett A. Pryll
3/29/02 - FREDONIA, NY : Brett A. Pryll, 33, of One Temple Square, Fredonia, died March 29 in his home. He was born Jan. 11, 1969, in Dunkirk, the son of Barbara Powell Pryll Elliott and the late Theodore Pryll. He was a resident of Fredonia. He is survived by his mother, Barbara Elliott of the Chautauqua County Home; a daughter, Brittany Pryll of Fredonia; his grandmother, Hazel Marchiando of Fredonia; his great-grandmother, Hazel LeBaron of Fredonia; and two brothers, Scott of Brocton and Todd of Newport News, Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Pryll. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today in the Chautauqua County Home. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Geraldine M. Button
7/19/02 - WESTFIELD, NY : Geraldine M. Button, 76, of Oak Street, Westfield, died July 19 at The Waters of Westfield. She was born on April 20, 1926 in Lawrence Park, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Anna Belle (Adams) Robinson. A Westfield resident most of her life, she attended Westfield Academy and later became a nurse’s aide, working at the former Margaret Anthony’s Nursing Home on Route 5 in Dunkirk. She retired from Westfield Memorial Hospital. She also worked at the former Barcelona Inn (Gorenflo’s) for many years. An amateur author who penned children’s short stories, Mrs. Button loved her grandchildren, knitted, watched NASCAR, had a good sense of humor, liked bowling and enjoyed camping with her family at Rainbow Lake. She is survived by four daughters, Kay E. Moorhouse of Westfield, Cheryl L. Coburn of North East, Pa., Jaci S. Wildman of Holiday, Fla. and Holly A. Button of Westfield, with whom Mrs. Button resided. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister, Mabel Clawsonof Westfield and a brother, Howard Robinson of Santee, S.C. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick “Ted” Button, who died in 1993; two brothers, Charles and Howard Robinson; a sister, Florence Robinson; and an infant grandson. No calling will be observed. Memorials may be made to the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 20 Clinton Street, Westfield, N.Y., 14787. Irma TeWinkle
7/24/02 - CLYMER, NY : Irma L. TeWinkle, 90, formerly of Clymer and Colonial Terrace Personal Care Home, Corry, died July 24 at Corry Memorial Hospital. She was born June 24, 1912 in the town of Clymer, the daughter of Garrett and Cena Lookenhouse. She was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Corry and attended the Abbe Reformed Church in Clymer. She was employed for more than 20 years by the former Raymond’s Manufacturing of Corry in the shipping department. She loved her cats. She is survived by a nephew, Ivan Lookenhouse of North East, Pa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick Miller; and her second husband, Merle D. TeWinkle, whom she married Dec. 8, 1969 and who died Dec. 19, 1989. 7/21/02 - JAMESTOWN, NY : Marilyn S. Clute, 75, died July 21 in Sun City West, Ariz. She was born Aug. 4, 1926 in Jamestown. She had been employed as secretary to the principal and clerk of the Board of Education of Mayville Central School from 1949 to 1965. Along with her husband, she owned and operated the Chautauqua Lake Boatyard in Mayville from 1965 to 1980. She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and the Sun City West R.V. Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, whom she married June 3, 1949 and who died Aug. 22, 1989. Arrangements are by the Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center, 13738 Camino del Sol, Sun City West, Ariz.
Shirley Abbey
7/27/02 - CHERRY CREEK, NY : Shirley Mae Abbey, 64, of Soutside Avenue, Cherry Creek, died July 27 in her home. She was born April 12, 1938 in Machias, the daughter of the late Freeman and Irene Miller Easterly. She was a homemaker and worked summer pack at CB Foods for many years. She was an avid crafter. She is survived by her husband, Alfred A. Abbey of Westfield; five sons, Alfred Abbey of Corrine, Utah, Thomas Abbey of Westfield, Wayne Abbey of Stockton, Kim A. Abbey of Fredonia and Antonio M. Cruz Jr. of Fredonia; a daughter, Juanita M. Parsell of Forestville; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Freeman Easterly II of Hamlet; and three sisters, Joyce Jock of Jamestown, Rosita Kennison of South Dayton and Nancy Case of Forestville. Burial will be in the Villenova Cemetery. The Hills Funeral Chapel in South Dayton is in charge of arrangements.
Shirley Rathmell
7/19/02 - RIPLEY, NY : Shirley M. Rathmell, 66, of North East-Sherman Road, South Ripley, died July 19 in her home. She was born Nov. 18, 1935 in Erie, Pa., the daughter of the late Donald and Phyllis (Stanley) Hanson. Mrs. Rathmell had been employed by the former VCM Foods in North East in the housekeeping department from 1979 until 1985. She later worked in the same capacity for the Stateline Kwik-Fill in North East from 1987 until her retirement in 1995. A member of the South Ripley Methodist Church, she helped organize various holiday parties and activities. She also had assisted with Ripley Hose Co. Station 2 by helping where needed. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, James H. Rathmell Jr., whom she married Aug. 29, 1953; a son, Lonnie C. Rathmell of Westfield; two daughters, Gayle Mowers and Debora L. Davis, both of South Ripley; four brothers, Bob Hanson and David Hanson, both of Erie, Thomas Hanson of St. Mary’s, Pa. and Jackie Hanson of Ohio; four sisters, Marjorie Palmer of Erie, Delores Lemke of Cambridge Springs, Pa., Mary Lou Dascomb of North East and Linda Illig of Harborcreek, Pa.; and three grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Gerald Hanson; and a sister, Norma Hanson. Internment will be held privately. 7/27/02 MAYVILLE, NY - Donald George VanAtter, 55, of Morris Road, died July 27 at The Waters of Westfield. He was born Dec. 19, 1946 in Mayville, the son of George A. and Alberta Cross VanAtter. He was self employed as an electrician. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mayville. Besides his mother of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Dewittville, Mayvilel, Ocala, Fla. and Leesburg, Fla., he is survived by a daughter, Deborah Kupczyk of East Aurora; a grandson, Kyle Kupczyk of East Aurora; two sisters, Carol Louise Creal of Nanton, Alberta, Canada and Mary Jan Elliott of Lexington; and a companion, June Gross of Mayville, with whom he made his home. He was preceded in death by his father, who died Aug. 25, 2001. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery. No visitation will be observed. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Donald R. Smith
1/30/02 MAYVILLE, NY - Donald R. Smith, 79, of South Erie Street, Mayville, died Jan. 30, in his home after a lengthy illness. He was born May 3, 1922 in Bear Lake, Pa., the son of the late Joseph and Jessie Lewis Smith. He was a self-employed contractor who also worked for New York State doing bridge construction. He also worked at Kling’s Furniture and Standard Portable in Mayville. In earlier years, he had been a farmer. He was a life member of the Westfield VFW 6764. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on three different ships. He received the Purple Heart twice. After retiring, he enjoyed and spent much of his time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Violet Mary Vinton Smith, whom he married May 18, 1943 in Clymer; three daughters, Garnet A. Smith Ecker of Mayville, Donna L. Smith Mandell of Jamestown and Roberta M. Smith Jackson of Westfield; two sons, Edward A. Smith of Westfield and Danny L. Smith of Hartfield; 11 grandchildren, Sheri Bova, Dixie Dibble, Diana Smith, Shawn Smith, Chris Ecker, Tadd Alexander, Jason Alexander, Ryan Jackson, Mark Jackson, Joseph Smith and Tracy Smith; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Carter of Clymer; and two brothers, Richard Smith of Westfield and Everette Smith of Barcelona. He was preceded in death by an infant son; five sisters, Bernice Haskins, Agnes Nelson, Edna Raynor, Doris Evans and Gertrude Schropp; six brothers, Floyd Smith, Ralph Smith, Elton Smith, Claude Smith, Kenneth Smith and Eddy Smith; and one grandson, Eric Robert Jackson.
