FREDONIA: Donald E. Hayes, age 64, of Chautauqua Street, Fredonia, formerly of Forestville died at ( 5:44 P.M.) Friday, March 28, 2003 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk.
Mr. Hayes was born December 22, 1938 in Buffalo the son of the late Earland and Florence (Gardner) Hayes.
Mr. Hayes was a retired tow motor operator having worked for the former True Temper Corp. of Dunkirk retiring in 1986 after 28 years of service. He was a graduate of Forestville Central School class of 1956. Mr. Hayes loved animals and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen (Mott) Hayes of Fredonia, 2 daughters Mrs. Mark (Valerie) Lis of Portland and Julie Jackson of North East, Pa., and 1 sister Elaine Hayes Frederickson of Dunkirk. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
There will be no visitation observed. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made either to the Lake Shore Humane Society, P.O. Box 12, Fredonia, NY 14063 or the Darwin R. Barker Library Association, 7 Day Street, Fredonia, NY 14063. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.
Shirley A. Thompson
FORESTVILLE: Shirley A. Thompson, age 62, of South Dayton-Silver Creek Road, Forestville, died at (4:24 A.M.) Wednesday, January 14, 2004 in Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Thompson was born October 28, 1941 in Silver Creek, the daughter of the late John Pilon.
Mrs. Thompson retired in 1998 from Forestville Central School having worked as a custodian. She was a member of the Forestville United Methodist Church and was a past member & past president of the former Forestville Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Thompson was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother who enjoyed the simple things in life. She also enjoyed chrocheting, knitting, & reading.
Survivors include her husband Gardner "Clem" Thompson of Forestville, whom she married October 11, 1958 in the Forestville Baptist Church, 2 sons Randy Thompson and Gardner L. (Christine) Thompson both of Forestville, 4 daughters Mrs. Joseph (Julie) Goodway of Forestville, Jaunice Thompson of Gowanda, Mrs. Shirley (Lisa) Benton and Tracey Thompson both of Thornton, New Hampshire. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces & nephews. Besides her father she was predeceased by an infant brother Richard Pilon.
Friends may call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, on Saturday, from 2-4 & 7-8:30 p.m. from where funeral services will follow at 8:30 o’clock with Pastor Rebecca Ward, pastor of the Forestville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Pioneer Cemetery, Forestville. The family suggests memorials in her memory be made either to the Forestville Fire Dept. Marian H. Pilawski
FREWSBURG: Marian H. Pilawski, age 72, of Bone Run Road, Frewsburg, formerly of South Buffalo died at ( 5:50 A.M.) Friday, January 31, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Pilawski was born January 9, 1931 in Buffalo the daughter of the late Cale and Edna (Bishop) Hart.
Mrs. Pilawski enjoyed going to flea markets and reading.
Survivors include her husband Joseph Pilawski, Sr. of Frewsburg whom she married on August 1, 1950 in Holy Family RC Church, South Buffalo, 2 daughters Mrs. Jeffrey (Karen) Waterhouse and Mrs. Milan (Cindy) Tamer both of Forestville, 2 sons Joseph (Jane) Pilawski, Jr. of Frewsburg and Steve J. (Lynn) Pilawski of Orchard Park. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and several cousins. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 1 brother Harry A. Hart.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11:00 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville with the Rev. Daniel Rutenber pastor of the Gage Chapel Community Church, Smith Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Mills Cemetery, Town of Hanover. Mary Jane Waligora
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL: Mary Jane Waligora, age 82, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida formerly of Buffalo and Forestville died at (1:30 P.M..) Wednesday, March 12, 2003 in Hollywood Medical Center, Hollywood, Florida following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Waligora was born January 7, 1921 in Waynesville, North Carolina the daughter of the late Joseph and Francis (Jenkins) Evans.
Mrs. Waligora was the co-owner of Sparks Electric, Buffalo with her late husband Bronislaus Waligora whom she married August 13, 1943 in St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and who died October 1, 1972. She was a member of the Salvation Army Women's Home League, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and had attended the Sheridan Hills Baptist Church, Hollywood, Florida. Mrs. Waligora was a graduate of Hazelwood High School, Waynesville, North Carolina.
Survivors include 4 sons, Gerald Waligora of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Timothy (Anne) Waligora of Buffalo, Jeffrey (Pok Sun) Waligora of Milwaukee, Oregon and Rodney (Michele) Waligora of Hollywood, Florida. Also surviving is 1 sister Louise McCuen of Gray, Kentucky, 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces & nephews. Besides her parents & husband, she was predeceased by a son Leonard Waligora who died January 4, 1989.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Forestville, New York. The family suggests memorials in her memory may be made either to Southeast Focal Point, Attn: Bessie, 3081 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida 33021 or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville, NY. Burial was in the Forestville Cemetery.
Florence L. Ruszaj
FORESTVILLE: Florence L. Ruszaj age 86, of Bradigan Road, Forestville died at (11:36 A.M.) Friday, July 4, 2003 in the TLC/Health Network-Lake Shore Hospital, Irving, following a short illness.
Mrs. Ruszaj was born July 19, 1916 in Buffalo the daughter of the late Joseph and Helen (Gizowski) Daminski.
Mrs. Ruszaj was a retired Steel Sharpener having worked for Bailey Manufacturing Co. of Forestville for 43 years. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville and a past president of the former St. Rose of Lima Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Kosciuszko Club, Dunkirk and was an avid polka dancer.
Survivors include her loving companion Walter Waligora of Forestville, 1 daughter Mrs. Robert (Rita) Boyland of Forestville, 1 son John J. (Janet) Ruszaj, Sr. of Hamburg. Also surviving are 1 brother Joseph (Clara) Daminski of Cheektowaga, 1 sister Mrs. John (Dorothy) Moskaluk of West Seneca, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Alexander Ruszaj who died August 19, 1967, by a daughter Constance T. Laurie who died September 4, 1985, by a brother John Daminski and by a sister Helen Popielarz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 o’clock from St. Rose Lima RC Church, Forestville (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) with the Rev. Gerald P. Sheehan pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Forestville Cemetery. David E. Homan
FREDONIA: David E. Homan, age 62, of Green Acres, Wisteria Drive, Fredonia, formerly of Forestville died peacefully in his sleep at (11:27 A.M.) Saturday, January 31, 2004 in Buffalo General Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Homan was born May 12, 1941 in Silver Creek, the son of the late Erwin Homan and Mildred (Higgs) Homan Johnson of Forestville.
Mr. Homan was a US Navy Veteran and was a former antique dealer and auctioneer. He loved fishing and was a devout Christian.
Surviving besides his mother is 1 brother Richard Homan and 1 sister Shirley Hafner both of Forestville. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Besides his father he was predeceased by his step-father Keith Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville, with the Rev. Donald L. Carlson officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Town of Hanover. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Claudia G. Kelley
FORESTVILLE: Claudia G. Kelley, age 59, of Fluker Hill Road, Forestville died at (5:35 A.M.) Friday, February 7, 2003 in Buffalo General Hospital following a lengthy illness
Mrs. Kelley was born January 6, 1944 in Buffalo the daughter of the late Earl and Esther (Mallaber) Austin.
Mrs. Kelley was a retired assembler/packer having worked for Cherry Creek Woodcraft, South Dayton, retiring after 11 years of service. She had formerly worked as a security guard for the Pinkerton Co. and at Bush Industries in Cattaraugus. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, many crafts, collecting pewter statues of Wizards, gardening, dancing reading, music and her family. At one time she hiked 95 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
Survivors include her husband Frank E. Kelly, Sr. of South Dayton, whom she married on February 14, 1970 in South Dayton, 3 daughters Mrs. Gene (Rachel) Nickerson of Cassadaga, Mrs. Michael (Heather) Kuzdzal of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Mrs. John (Heidi) Butcher of Forestville, 3 sons Richard (Lourdes) Ardillo of Forestville, John (Katie) Ardillo of Daytona Beach, Florida, Jason Ardillo of Fredericksburg,Virginia, 1 step-son Frank E. Kelly, Jr. of West Palm Beach, Florida and a step-daughter Wendy Abbey of Silver Creek. Also surviving are 4 sisters Mrs. Lynn (Phyllis) Butcher of South Dayton, Mrs. David (Alice) Sanders of Fredonia, Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Morlock of Mayville, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Yager of South Dayton, 2 brothers Eugene (Joyce) Austin of Brocton and Raymond (Lana) Austin of South Dayton, 12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by 3 brothers Richard N. Austin, Thomas Austin and Dennis Austin.

Amelia “Tootsie” M. Valentine
DUNKIRK: Amelia “Tootsie” M. Valentine, age 84, a resident of the Chautauqua County Home, Dunkirk, formerly of Rt. 39 Forestville died peacefully at ( 3:30 A.M.) Sunday, March 30, 2003 at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Valentine was born July 31, 1918 in the Town of Sheridan the daughter of the late Angelo and Anna (Parillo) Desko.
Mrs. Valentine was a lifelong Chautauqua County resident and spent her childhood in Silver Creek. She was a former member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek and a member of St. Rose of Lima RC Church, Forestville. She will be remembered as a wonderful loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved cooking and taking care of her family.
Survivors include 2 sons Meredith “Zeke” Valentine of Fredonia, David N. (Lois) Valentine of Forestville, 2 daughters Bonnie Valentine and Mrs. John (Joyce) Teach, III both of East Aurora. Also surviving are 2 sisters Mary Jones of Santa Monica, California and Mrs. Andrew (Ruth) Montare of Silver Creek, 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her granddaughter Lisa Van Curen Naples. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Loren A. Valentine, whom she married on November 14, 1942, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek and who died August 10, 1994, by 2 daughters Roxanne Luther who died February 13, 1991 and Cynthia Stoll who died June 23, 2000, by 2 brothers Peter Desko and Carl Desko and by 2 sisters Joanne Valentine and Althea Town, by twin grandsons Richard and Raymond Valentine and by twin infant brothers.
Prayer services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:15 o’clock from the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street, Forestville followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 o’clock from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Silver Creek with the Rev. John Mitka, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek. Stanley B. Clark, MD
DUNKIRK: Stanley B. Clark, MD, age 87, of Crooked Brook Drive, Dunkirk, formerly of Buffalo, Fredonia and Forestville died at (2:57 P.M.) Sunday, February 9, 2003 in Brooks Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness
Dr. Clark was born February 14, 1915 in Buffalo the son of the late Leland and Irma May (Stanley) Clark.
Dr. Clark received his A B. degree from Cornell University in 1937 and his M. D. degree from the University of Buffalo Medical School in 1941. He served his residency in radiology at Buffalo General Hospital. Dr. Clark was a retired radiologist and at one time served as the Director of Radiology for Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk. He had also served as radiologist at Tri-County Memorial Hospital, Gowanda and as attending radiologist for the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center, Helmuth and the former J.N. Adam Developmental Center, Perrysburg. He was a former member of the American Medical Association, the Medical Society State of New York, Chautauqua County Medical Society, American College of Radiology, American Roentgen Ray Society, Radiological Society of North America, Buffalo Radiological Society and was a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology. Dr. Clark was a former member of the Forestville Central School Board having first being appointed in 1979 and serving until 1986. He was the owner of the former S Bar N Quarter Horse Ranch in Forestville where he raised and showed horses.
There are no known survivors. There will be no visitation observed.
Graveside Service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 o’clock in the Cowden’s Corners Cemetery, Rt. 83 at Miller Road, Town of Arkwright with the Rev. Bruce M. Ellis pastor of the Forestville Wesleyan Church, officiating. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to the Forestville Fire Department Emergency & Rescue Squad. Arrangements are by the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, Forestville.
