5/25/02 - PANAMA, NY : Allen F. Sard, 77, of W. Main Street, Panama, died May 25 in his home. A lifelong resident of the area, he was born Aug. 7, 1924 in the town of Carroll, the son of Milo and Alice Bohall Sard. Prior to his retirement, he was a machinist at the Borden-Alcoa Co. in Randolph. Previously, he was employed by the former Art Metal Corp. and was a carpenter in the area, having built many houses. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended Panama Baptist Church, was a former member of the Western New York Bottle Association, the Jamestown Moose Lodge and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by four daughters, Joyce Butts, Debbie White, Dawn Hardesty, all of New Bern, N.C., and Nancy Huffstetler of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Betty Story, Patricia Dole and Jackie Swanson, all of Panama and Cindy Burnez of Fredonia; three brothers, Leland Story of Frewsburg, William and Michael Sard, both of Panama; four stepchildren, Thomas A. Torres of Panama, Virginia Torres of Houston, Cindy Torres of Jamestown and Sonya Gibbs of Lakewood; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James A. Sard, who died March 4, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today in the Panama Union Cemetery. Dr. Robert Morgenstern
5/19/02 LAKEWOOD, NY - Dr. Robert P. Morgenstern, 85, of Lakeview Avenue, Lakewood, died May 19 in Lakeside Biekirch Care Center in Brockport. A Brockport resident for two weeks and a Lakewood resident since 1947, he was born Jan. 24, 1917 in Westfield, the son of Reuben and Vera Peck Morgenstern. He was a 1936 graduate of Westfield High School and graduated in 1941 from Temple University. He served in the Army during World War II in the Stark General Hospital in Charleston, S.C. He was a podiatrist since 1945 and retired in Jamestown in 1982. He was a member of Lakewood United Methodist Church, was active in the Methodist Men’s Club and served on the board of the Lakewood Library. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Hopkins Morgenstern, whom he married July 4, 1970; two sons, Bill Morgenstern of Jamestown and Brent Morgenstern of Watertown; two stepdaughters, Ann Lee Walker of Brockport and Carolyn Coppedge of Richmond, Va.; five grandchildren, Jennifer and Grant Coppedge of Richmond, Debra Liddell and Amy Morgenstern, both of Jamestown and Rodney Morgenstern of Bemus Point; and a sister, Ann Dibble of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary E. Roberts Morgenstern, whom he married in September 1949 and who died in 1969. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. David W. Moore
5/23/02 SUGAR GROVE , NY - David W. Moore, 42, of Jamestown Street, Sugar Grove, died May 23 in the town of Busti following a lengthy illness. He was born June 1, 1959 in Jamestown, the son of Mary Leichtenberger Moore and the late Thomas Moore. A lifelong resident of the area, he attended Jamestown High School. Besides his mother, he is survived by two sons, Shawn and Mathew Moore, both of Lander; a daughter, Tiffany Moore of Lander; four brothers, Randy Moore of Jamestown, Gary Moore of Panama, Kenneth Moore of Youngsville, and James Moore of Warren; and a sister, Rose Vasquez of Jamestown. A graveside memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Marcus Briggs, chaplain of Warren General Hospital, will officiate. Burial will be in the Sheffield Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Borden-Lloyd Funeral Home.
Wilma W. Tarr
4/13/2006 - Wilma W. Tarr of Ashville died April 3, 2006. She was the wife of Richard V. Tarr whom she married on August 24th 1962.
In her early years she was employed as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer in Cleveland Ohio. Her career spanned many independent art studios as well as King Features Syndicate, Warner & Swasey, The Hearst Corporation, Sears Roebuck, and Halle Bros. In addition, she also illustrated a number of children's books.
Mrs. Tarr was a program chair and officer within the WCA Antique Study Group, a chairperson for the Huntington Valley Women's Club, served on numerous committees for her children's schools, and was a member of the American Society of Appraisers.
In recent years, Mrs. Tarr was an antique dealer at the Red Brick Farm, and dealt independently in country painting and furniture decorating. In her life she amassed an extensive knowledge of antiques, dishes, and quilts.
Surviving are her two sons: Andrew Tarr of Cleveland, and Charles R. Tarr of Buffalo, and two grandsons Jackson and Felix Tarr of Buffalo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard V. Tarr, and her parents, William and Bernice Wagner.
As per Mrs. Tarr's final wishes there will be no formal services, and she has donated her mortal remains to the University of Buffalo's Anatomical Gift Program.

Michael Andrew Yancy
4/13/2006 - Funeral services for Michael Andrew Yancy, 30, formerly of Long Pond Road, Croghan, who died April 1, 2006, were held April 4 from the United Methodist Church in Beaver Falls.
Michael died at the faith-based residence of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, Water Road, Lowville, where he had resided since Jan. 20, 2005.
Born Sept. 30, 1975 in Lowville, he was the son of Haskell A. Jr. and Jane Weise Yancey.
Surviving besides his parents are two sisters, Beth A. and Catherine R. Yancy, both of Croghan; a brother, Timothy R., of Croghan; his maternal grandparents, Hobart A. and Anabel C. Weise of Mayville; paternal grandmother, Mabel Yancey of Croghan; uncles and aunts, John and Margie Weise, Ezra and Tammy Weise and Sandra and Patric Kilmartin, all of Mayville and Frank Weise of Gowanda.

Marjorie A. Colvin
4/13/2006 - Marjorie A. Colvin, 90, of Hopewell Medical Center of Hopewell, Va., died April 9, 2006.
She was born in the Town of Hanover on Dec. 9, 1915, the daughter of the late Elwood and Mabel Snow Belote.
Marjorie lived most of her life in the Portland/Brocton area.
She was a former employee of the former Rusch's Restaurant in Dunkirk from 1942 until retiring in 1965.
She is survived by one son, James (JoAnn) Colvin of Penn Yan, Audrey (Edward) Comstock of Portland, June Davis of Buena, N.J., Phillis 9david) Schuster of Colonial Heights, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one stepson, Paul Colvin of Avon Park, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Colvin, who died in 1970; one stepson, Herbert Colvin; and one stepdaughter, Olive Colvin.
Funeral services will be held today, April 13th, at 11 a.m. from the Morse Funeral Home of Brocton. The Rev. Richard Mower will officiate. Interment will be at the Cherry Creek Center Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to Crater Community Hospice, 840 West Roslyn Road, Colonial Heights, Va., 23834.

Barbara L. Warner
4/13/2006 - Barbara L. Warner, 59, of Westfield, died peacefully at her home with her family at her side on April 8, 2006.
She was born Aug. 9, 1946 in Westfield, the daughter of Rosemont (Utegg) Reibel and the late John A. Reibel Sr.
A graduate of Mayville Central School, she received an associate's degree from St. Petersburg Business College and her bachelor's degree from the University of South Florida in social work, graduating cum laude.
Barbara was a social worker and volunteer coordinator for Great Lakes Hospice in Erie, Pa.
Barbara was a very kind and loving person. She touched the lives of many people and will be especially missed by her family and friends. She enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, making crafts, reading, playing the organ, traveling, and going to the casino. She was a collector of dolls and teddy bears. Most of all, her children and grandchildren were what brought her the most joy in her life.
Survivors include her mother of Westfield; husband, Clifford Warner of Mayville and his children, Clifford Warner Jr. of South Carolina and Vicki Warner of Georgia and their children, daughters, Tammy Mayer Railey of Cottonwood, Ariz. and husband, Robert Railey and children, Courtney, Morgan, Kaitlin, Joshua and Emily, Lisa Mayer Lodmell of Cottonwood, Ariz. and husband, Gary Lodmell and children, Leah and Derek; former husband, Joseph Mayer of Cornville, Ariz.; two sisters, Dawn (Donald) Bagley of Mayville and Kathy McCully of Westfield; and one brother, John (Julie) Reibel of Westfield.
She was preceded in death by her father on Jan. 7, 2004; and brother-in-law, Glenn "Sonny" McCully.
Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.

Dennis A. Nilson
4/13/2006 - Dennis A. Nilson, 60, of Sugar Grove, died unexpectedly following a short illness on April 5, 2006 in the home of his daughter in Panama, surrounded by those who loved him.
He was born March 31, 1946 in Jamestown, the son of the late Nels O. and Hazel M. Green Nilson.
A 1964 graduate of Jamestown High School, he had also attended Jamestown Community College. He served in the U.S. Army from Oct. 19, 1965 to Oct. 15, 1971.
He had formerly been employed as a welder at Ulrich Planfiling Equipment Corp., and earlier had worked at Metaltronics, Inc. HBSA Industries.
He was a member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, the Sugar Grove American Legion and the Panama Volunteer Fire Department.
A talented artist and woodcarver, he enjoyed sharing his opinions and philosophy of life with others. He enjoyed his grandchildren and blues and jazz music.
Surviving are a daughter, Michele M. Smouse and her husband, Daniel, of Panama; two sons, James N. Nilson and his wife, Laurie, and Dennis A.J. Nilson and his wife, Sheila, all of Jamestown; seven grandchildren; and a friend, Maggie
Graham of Jamestown.
In addition to his father, who died July 18, 1974 and his mother, who died July 25, 1988, he was preceded in death by a sister, Aina Mansfield.
Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.

Lawrence L. McIntyre
4/13/2006 - Lawrence L. "Mac" McIntyre, 82, of Fuller Road, Portland, died April 6, 2006 unexpectedly at Brooks Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Westfield on May 9, 1923, the son of the late Leroy and Winnie Rowley McIntyre. He had been a resident of the Portland area most of his life.
He was the retired Transportation Supervisor for Brocton Central School and was a former mechanic for Murry Price Pontiac/Cadillac dealership of Westfield. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater at Normandy.
He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and the Conspicuous Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, United Presidential Citation and four Battle Stars.
He was a life member, past commander and board member of the Brocton American Legion John W. Dill Post 434, Mayville VFW and War Vets. He was an exempt fireman of the Portland Volunteer Fire Department, member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 118 of Westfield and member and former trustee of the Portland Congregational Church of Portland.
His hobbies were small engine repair and lawn care.
He is survived by his wife, Fredora Mawhir McIntyre, whom he married on April 7, 1978; one son, Herbert D. McIntyre, of Portland; two daughters, Janice Hipwell of Brocton and Ruth Blackman of Ripley; four stepsons, Rick Manzella and Michael Manzella, both of Portland, Thomas Manzella of Westfield and Robert Manzella of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Kathleen Thies of brocton and Julie Matthews of Oswego; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 22 step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Leon McIntyre of Portland; and one sister, Beatrice Stoll, of Irving.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ester Reese McIntyre, whom he married July 28, 1945 and who died Dec. 25, 1976; three sisters, Thelma Messinger, Beaulah Woleben and Wilda Baum; and one stepdaughter, Sandra Heyden.
Interment will be at the Willowbrook Cemetery of Dunkirk.
The family suggests that memorials be made to the Portland Fire Department or the American Heart Association.
