ERIE - Joseph Damond, 87, of 2419 Peppertree Drive, formerly of Warren, died, Sunday (Nov. 21, 1999) in St. Vincent Health Center. He was born Nov. 26, 1911, in Jamestown, the son of the late John and Alvira Maisto Damond. He was employed by the Blair Corporation for more than 35 years retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church and while residing in Warren he attended St. Joseph Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a brass band member performing on the baritone for 50 years. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Elizabeth Ertola Damond; two sons: John Damond and Gerald Damond, with whom he made his home, both of Erie; a sister, Sarah LaMarca of Jamestown; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Theresa, Monica and Frances; and three brothers: Frank, Anthony and Americo (John). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. James Roman Catholic Church, 2635 Buffalo Road, Erie, Pa. The Rev. Monsignor Robert Cohan, his nephew, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery Mausoleum, Warren. Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Road, where a prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Virginia L. Hall
ERIE - Virginia L. "Ginny" Hall, 55, of 2810 Broadlawn Ave., died Friday (Nov. 19, 1999) in Saint Vincent Health Center. She was born Oct. 3, 1944, in Erie, the daughter of the late Willard and Dorothy Groger Holton. A graduate of Warren High School, she had been employed by the former Horne's Department Store in Erie and was a secretary for Knox-Western. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, the Siebenburger and Zukor Clubs. She enjoyed dancing, camping and traveling. Surviving are her husband, David L. Hall; a son, David L. Hall; a daughter, Melissa Corey, both of Erie; five grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Penoyer of Warren. A prayer service will be at 9 a.m. today in the Burton West Lake Funeral Home, 3816 W. Lake Road, Erie, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. today in Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Erie. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Richard Joseph Morganti
Richard Joseph Morganti, 75, of 20 Elam Ave., died at 10:37 a.m. Monday (Nov. 22, 1999) in his home. He was born Jan. 19, 1924, the son of the late Philip and Lillian Baldo Morganti. He was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Air Corp and served as an aerial photographer for which he received two air medals for bombing missions against the Japanese forces in the Bismarck Archipelago during World War II. He was employed by Dawson Metal as a bench hand from 1979 to his retirement in 1986. He had previously been employed as a commercial photographer for Davis Studio and owned and operated Bell Morganti Photo on Third Street. In 1962 he became the owner and operator of The Friendly Grill and was self employed as a commercial photographer for many years. In 1971 he became the owner of the Savoy Restaurant in Warren until 1979. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John W. Tiffany Post 53 where he was the present commander and formerly served as vice commander and chaplain. He was also a member of the American Legion Ira Lou Spring Post 149. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. Surviving are two sons: Richard P. Morganti of Lakewood and Mark A. Morganti of Thornton, Colo.; three daughters: Nancy Frank of Thornton, Debra Cardiff of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Mary Jane King of Kennedy; eight grandchildren; two sisters: Antoinette Palermo of Jamestown and Laura Ameli of Merit Island, Fla. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Guzowski Morganti who died in 1980 and his second wife, Mary Alice Ericson Morganti who died in 1994; and three brothers: Charles, Philip and Angelo Morganti. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hubert Funeral Home. The Rev. Monsignor Antoine P. Attea, pastor, St. James Catholic Church and the Rev. Raymond Linza, intern pastor of Cherry Creek United Methodist Church and South Dayton United Methodist, will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Hubert Funeral Home.
Zella C. Penley
DeGRAFF, Ohio - Zella C. Penley, 84, of 8211 Road 207, formerly of Sugar Grove, died Saturday (Nov. 20, 1999) in Green Hills Center, West Liberty, Ohio. She was born Sept. 7, 1915, in Ironton, Ohio, the daughter of Alva and Elsie Cost Thornton. A 1934 graduate of St. Paris High School, she was a homemaker. Surviving are five daughters: Bessie Jenkins of Rosewood, Ohio, Pauline Tinelli of DeGraff, Phyllis Helmandollar of West Liberty, Ohio, Karen Briggs of Hinsdale, Ill., Linda McIntosh of Sugar Grove; three sons: Dale Penley of New Port, Ohio, Jerry Penley of Piqua, Ohio, James Penley of Sugar Grove; 31 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Leroy Penley, whom she married Sept. 4, 1935, in St. Paris, Ohio, and who died May 5, 1994; two infant sons; one daughter, Joyce Work; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff. The Rev. Terry Washburn, will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Point Cemetery, Pasco, Ohio. Friends will be received from 5 to 8 tonight in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Green Hills Center or the American Heart Association.
Walter A. Beeles
MANSFIELD, N.Y. - Walter A. Beeles, 82, of Jersey Hollow Road, Mansfield, died, Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) in his home. He was born March 31, 1917, in Palermo, N.Y., the son of Robert and Evelyn Walsh Beeles. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. He had been employed as a auto technician for King Windows in Little Valley and had worked for Steve's Auto Repair in Mansfield. Surviving are his wife, Loretta Spychala Beeles whom he married Jan. 13, 1945; two sons: Michael and John Beeles of Mansfield; two daughters: Lorraine Couhig and Patricia Damon both of Mansfield; a grandson, Paul Damon of Little Valley; a great-grandson; a brother, Myron Beals of Syracuse; and a sister Ruth Falise of Oswego, N.Y. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Beals. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. No visitation will be observed. Arrangements are by Mentley Funeral Home, Inc., 411 Rock City St., Little Valley.
James L. Grimes Sr.
James L. Grimes Sr., 71, formerly of 23 W. Third St., died at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 5, 1999) in Lutheran Social Services. An area resident for the past 35 years, he was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Jasper, Tenn., the son of the late Benjamin and Lillian Brown Grimes. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1946 to 1947. He was employed by the former Jamestown Finishes for 23 years retiring in 1989. He loved artwork and drawing. He was interested in small appliance repairs, mostly televisions and VCRs and was a lover of country music. Surviving are his wife, Rosabelle Brown Grimes whom he married April 11, 1970; two daughters: Jessie Delgado and Theresa Havers both of Jamestown; a stepdaughter, Robin Dudek of Jamestown; six stepsons: Michael G. Hayes of Anchorage, Patrick B. Hayes of Buffalo, Jerry K. Hayes of Albuquerque, N.M., Thomas F. Hayes of Jamestown, Timothy J. Hayes of Sinclairville, and Sean G. Hayes, U.S. Air Force, stationed in Texas; six grandchildren: Benjamin and Donna Grimes of New Hampshire, Tammy Franklin and Destiny Ward both of Jamestown, Judith and Wesley K. Harvers Jr. both of Sinclairville; 23 step-grandchildren; a brother, Edward Grimes of Mio, Minn.; and a sister, Evabelle Boston of Jasper, Tenn. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James L. Grimes Jr. and a stepdaughter, Rita Mary Hayes in 1981. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Raymond L. Jackson, pastor, of Calvary Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Eric Lynn Johnson, 37, of 332½ Foote Ave., died at 9:27 a.m. Monday (Oct. 4, 1999) in WCA Hospital. Survivors include a son, Adan Johnson of Jamestown. Arrangements are by Hubert Funeral Home.
Hazel Garner Nixon
WESTFIELD - Hazel Garner Nixon, 75, of Westfield, died Tuesday (Oct. 5, 1999) in her home. She was born June 2, 1924, in Port Arthur, Texas, the daughter of the late John H. and Verda Martin Garner. She was employed as a legal secretary for the law firm of Granville T. Burke in Oakland, Calif. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Westfield and the Order of Eastern Stars. She was a volunteer at the Oakland Children's Hospital. She was a Honorary Kentucky Colonel and had always has a great interest in American history and animal welfare. Surviving are one son, John K. Nixon of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Patricia M. Manning of Bakersfield, Calif.; and one sister, Louise Edwards of San Angelo, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Westfield. The Rev. Eldwin M. Lovelady, officiating. A private interment will follow. No visitation will be observed. Memorials may be made to a charity of ones choice. Arrangements are by the Barber Funeral Home, Westfield.
