Phyllis E. Smith
Phyllis E. Smith, 76, of East Second Street, Jamestown, died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2000) at 8:05 p.m. in WCA Hospital. Arrangements are by Peterson Funeral Home, Frewsburg.

Warren T. Koppenhofer
WARREN — Warren T. Koppenhofer, 81, of 513 Lincoln Ave. and Cudjoe Key, Fla., died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2000) in Warren General Hospital. He was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Winfield, N.Y., the son of William and Blanche DeWitt Koppenhofer. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 as a sergeant, working in the engineering division in England, Algiers, North Africa and Italy, where he set up a mobile postal operation serving the men on the front line. He started his career in postal office work in Hempstead, L.I., and had been a postal inspector with the U.S. Postal Service, working in the Pittsburgh Post Office from 1953 to 1971. He was a former member of the St. George Episcopal Church of Hempstead. He was a former borough council member, serving as president and mayor of Indian Lake, Somerset County, Pa., in the 1970s. Surviving are his wife, Betty Bean Koppenhofer, whom he married May 10, 1945, in Norfolk, Va.; a daughter, Susan Scenna of Amherst, N.H.; and two sons: Michael Koppenhofer of Enola, Pa., and Warren "Tom" Koppenhofer of Hooversville, Pa.; and four grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc. The Rev. Glenn Hamilton, pastor of Bethlehem Covenant Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., New York, N.Y., 10032-9982.

Ellis R. Parker
DUNKIRK — Ellis R. Parker, 71, of the Chautauqua Home, formerly of 2574 Hanson Road, Gerry, died at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2000) in Brooks Memorial Hospital. An area resident most of his life, he was born April 30, 1928, in Jamestown, the son of Norris N. and Dorothy Reid Parker. He was a 1945 graduate of Cassadaga High School and had attended Cornell University. He had been employed for 30 years at the former Amsco Excel retiring due to ill health. He served as Gerry town justice for many years and was a member of the New York State Magistrates Association. He was a life member of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department and an a member of the Gerry United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree member of the Sylvan Lodge 303 F&AM, where he was a member of the Valley of Jamestown A.A.S.R., Jamestown Shriners and the Scottish Rite of Jamestown. He was a charter member of the Valley Bow Hunters Association and a former member of the Ingjald Lodge 65 IOV. In earlier years he had been active in Boy Scouts, 4H and the Future Farmers of America in the Gerry Area. He was an avid archery hunter.Surviving are his wife, Margaret E. Olson Parker, whom he married Sept. 9, 1950, in Falconer; two sons: William N. and Bruce A. Parker, both of Gerry; two daughters: Helena K. "Bonnie" Libby of Gerry and Susan D. Stanton of Lakewood; eight grandchildren: Donya Raymond and Stacey Carlson, both of Fredonia, Brian and Greg Stanton of Lakewood, Jamie, W. Nathan and Emily Parker, all of Gerry, Robert C. Johnston of East Randolph; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons: Ellis Jr. and Robert James Parker; and two granddaughters: Christina Sue Libby and Julie Ann Stanton. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Mark D. Emke, pastor of the Open Door Baptist Church, Cassadaga, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today where the Sylvan Lodge 303 F&AM will conduct a memorial ritual at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department or the University of Rochester, Department of Neurology, Mind Unit, 601 Elmwood Ave., Box 673, Rochester, N.Y., 14642-8673 for Parkinson’s research.

Virginia H. Dalrymple
SUGAR GROVE — Virginia H. Dalrymple, 81, of 205 Main St., died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2000) in the Rouse Warren County Home. She was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Sugar Grove, the daughter of Clyde Thorpe and Helen Beard. She was a member of the Busti Fire Department Auxiliary, the Sugar Grove Rod and Gun Club Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary of Sugar Grove. Surviving are two brothers: James Thorpe of Jamestown and Marvin Thorpe of Youngsville. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Dalrymple; and four brothers: Lewis, Trevor, Donald and Leighton Thorpe. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Sugar Grove Branch, McKinney Funeral Home, Sugar Grove. The Rev. Charles Duryea, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Wrightsville Cemetery. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Warren County, P.O. Box 68, Warren, Pa., 16365, or the Sugar Grove Free Library. Arrangements are by McKinney Funeral Home Inc., Sugar Grove.

Marjorie B. Faulk
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Marjorie B. Faulk, 90, of Traverse City, died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) in Munson Medical Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1909, in Ridgway, Pa., the daughter of Emil and Edith Carlson Bengtson. She was a graduate of Jamestown General Hospital and was employed as a registered nurse for 30 years, working in New York, Ohio and Michigan. She retired from Munson Medical Center in 1974. A resident of Traverse City since 1967, she was a member of the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; playing bingo with friends; trips to the casino, especially Las Vegas; frequent trips to Florida and following professional basketball. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She will be missed by all. Surviving are a son, William Faulk Jr. of Traverse City; four grandchildren: Julie Scott of Maitland, Fla., Cindy Lovern of Columbus, S.C., Steve Faulk of Burlington, Ky., and Kathy Halbert of Calhan, Colo; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nina Johnson of Gorton, Conn. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Faulk, whom she married Jan. 14, 1933, and who died June 2, 1966; a daughter, Marilyn Spake in 1995; two grandchildren, both in 1970; and a brother George in 1915. A private graveside service will be held in the spring in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown. Memorials may be made to Cherryland Humane Society or a charity of choice. Arrangements are by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, Mich.

Rita McMullen Fisher Kofod
Rita McMullen Fisher Kofod, 75, of 613 E. Seventh St., formerly of Salamanca, died at 5:52 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) in her home. An area resident for the past 30 years, she was born June 7, 1924, in Salamanca, a daughter of Norman and Anna Thompson McMullen.She was a graduate of Salamanca High School and earned her teaching degree from State College at Fredonia. Before her retirement in 1979, she was employed by the Salamanca School System for 25 years, teaching at the former Ward 1 and Jefferson Street schools. She previously taught at the Killbuck School. She was a communicant of Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, where she was a lector and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a former communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Salamanca. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296, where she was past president and its current treasurer. She was past Cattaraugus-Allegany Council president and past Sixth District president and treasurer. She also served on many state department chairmanships for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer for the Friendship Fund for more than 10 years. She also was a volunteer for many other civic organizations in the Jamestown area. Surviving is her husband, Sheldon W. Kofod, whom she married Aug. 8, 1970; a son, Richard Fisher of Salamanca; five daughters: Joyce Walsh of East Aurora, Barbara VanBuren of Hanover, Pa.; Rosanne Davis of Busti, Martha "Sue" Livermore of Randolph and Gail John of Bradford; two stepdaughters: Linda Ahern of Greenville, S.C., and Janet Clark of Lakewood; a stepson, James Kofod of Palmdale, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Emborski of Salamanca. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Plonka; five sisters: Theresa Wrona, Mary Rupple, Lois Blodgett, Margaret Schupenhauer and Florence McMullen; and three brothers: William, Paul and John McMullen.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Salamanca. The Rev. John J. Mitka, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Silver Creek, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, where a Christian Wake Service will be led by the Rev. Dennis W. Mende of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 6:45 p.m. today. The family also will be present to receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the O’Rourke and O’Rourke Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca. Memorials may be made to Hospice Chautauqua County, 188 S. Erie St., Mayville, N.Y., 14757, or to a charity of choice.
