MAYVILLE - A memorial service honoring F. Gibbs Kerns will be at 8:15 a.m. Monday in the Supreme Court courtroom in the Chautauqua County Courthouse. It has been scheduled by Judge Joseph Gerace with members of the bar association invited to attend.
Edith A. Carlson
Edith A. Carlson, 94, formerly of Falconer, died at 1:05 a.m. Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in the Lutheran Social Services Building A. She was born Oct. 13, 1904, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Ernest and Ida Swenson Anderson. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School and Adelphi College in Brooklyn. In the early '30s she taught and was a librarian in the New York City Public Schools and from 1962 to 1972 she was a librarian and taught kindergarten at the Southside and Harvey C. Fenner Elementary Schools in the Falconer Central School system. Along with her husband, the late Rev. Clarence H. Carlson whom she married July 18, 1936, in Long Island, and who died Jan. 28, 1964, she pastored the Salem Lutheran Church in Creston, Iowa, from 1936 to 1939, the Wasa Lutheran Church, Staten Island from 1939 to 1954, and the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Falconer, from 1954 to 1964. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she served on many of its religious and cultural committees. She was a member of the Falconer Senior Citizens. Surviving are a son, Dr. Harold Carlson of East Setauket, N.Y.; two daughters: Edith Doud of St. Louis, and Ellen Peterson of Athens, Ohio; five grandchildren: Gregory and Jonathan Carlson of Setauket, Melissa and Andrew Doud of St. Louis and Trevor Peterson of Boulder, Colo.; a brother, Ernest Anderson of Sun City, Ariz.; and a sister, Wilma Day of Thornwood, N.Y. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Emil Anderson in 1910. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mary Alice Peterhaensel, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Lutheran Social Services.
Henry J. Vanhenheke
MASSAPEQUA PARK, N.Y. - Henry J. Vanhenheke, 75, formerly of Tower Street, Jamestown, died Wednesday (Sept. 15, 1999). He was born in Jamestown, the son of Henry and Pauline Vanhenheke. A graduate of Jamestown High School, he was a school principal in Massapequa Park prior to retirement. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown. Surviving are a son, Joseph Vanhenheke. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Vanhenheke. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in SS. Peter and Paul Church at a later date. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Beverly Faulk Lawton
Beverly Faulk Lawton, 84, of 124 Frederick Blvd., W.E., Jamestown, died at 1:30 a.m. Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in her home. She was born Jan 4, 1915, in Elbon, Pa., the daughter of Emo and Auguata Faulk. She was employed as a teacher's aide at Southwestern Middle School for 23 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Celoron United Methodist Church and was superintendent of the Sunday school for many years. She enjoyed her Sunday school children and loved nature, especially bird watching. Surviving are a daughter: Susan R. Lawton of West Ellicott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Lawton, whom she married Nov. 19, 1941, and who died Jan 19, 1987; three brothers; and five sisters. A memorial services will be at 7 p.m Monday in the Celoron United Methodist Church. The Rev. Lauren K. Turner, pastor, will officiate. Inurement will be in Lake View Cemetery Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to Celoron United Methodist Sunday School, 28 E. Livingston Ave. Celoron, or the Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Road, Frewsburg. Arrangements are by Hubert Funeral Home.
Anita E. Burrows
LOCKWOOD - Anita E. Burrows, 76, of Lockwood, formerly of 205 Sampson St., Jamestown, died Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) in the home of her son. An area resident most of her life, she was born July 21, 1923, in Jamestown, daughter of Joseph and Edna Olson Prince. She was a 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School, she worked as a bookkeeper for several local accountants for many years. She was a member of Pilgrim Memorial Church of Christ, where she was organist for many years. Surviving are two sons: Gregory W. Burrows of Lockwood with whom she made her home, and Tom R. Burrows of Houston; six grandchildren: Erin R. Briggs and Morgan B. Burrows, both of Lockwood, Colby L. Westervelt of Alpin, N.Y., Keelin M. Burrows of Jamestown, Tom R. Burrows and Jake T. Burrows of Houston; and a brother, Joe Prince of Jamestown. She was preceded in death by her husband Roderick W. Burrows, whom she married Oct. 19, 1946, and who died Jun. 1, 1997. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Gilbert J. Pearson, pastor of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ.
Sube, Daniel L., 79, of Randolph, NY, died Sept 14, 1999 in his home. He was born Dec.
14, 1919 in Audenried, PA, the son of Harry and Edith Boke Sube. Surviving is his wife,
Mary E. Edgar Sube whom he married Aug 10, 1946; one son, Christopher Sube; and one
daughter, Kathleen O’Palenick. He was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Sube, in
1949, and one daughter, Eileen Sube in 1952. Interment in the South Napoli Cemetery.
Nannen, Sadie Elizabeth, 91, of Rockville, MD, formerly of Ellicottville, NY, died Sept
14, 1999. She was born Jan 5, 1908, in Ellicottville, the daughter of William J. and Jessie
Constantine Graham. Surviving are three sons: Jack W. Nannen, William G. Nannen and
Jerome H. Nannen; two daughters: Rae N. Enright and Susie N. Stakel; and a sister:
Olladean A. Bump. She was preceded in death by her husband, William O. Nannen,
whom she married Jan 5 1927 and who died Jan 29, 1975; and by a son, Willard O.
Nannen, who died in August, 1997.
Knuth, Albert, 68, of Delevan, NY, died Oct. 2, 1999 in his home. He was born Aug. 25,
1931 in Gowanda, a son of the late Arthur and Emma Bigham Knuth. Surviving are his
wife, Carol D. Ring Knuth, whom he married May 18, 1962; two sons, Kevin Knuth and
Dennis Knuth; three sisters: Doris Smith, Elva Abbey, and Twilla Lefford; two brothers:
Arthur Knuth and Earl Knuth. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister,
Lucille Shields. Burial was in the Delevan Cemetery, Delevan, NY.
