George Edward Kapral 89 years of 343 Woodview Avenue died Friday March 31, 2006 at the Corning Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1916 in Aliquippa, PA, the son of the late John and Anna Stasinski Kapral.
A lifetime resident of Corning attending St. Patrick’s Catholic School and Corning Free Academy. He was employed with Corning Inc. (1934-74) working in many areas of the company for 40 years and at the time of his retirement he was Supervisor of Maintanence in the Office Complex.
George and Bernice Martha Weigle were married September 21, 1939 in Elmira, NY.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, where he had attended St. Patrick’s Church. George was an avid and meticulous gardener and enjoyed fishing.
A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving, his wife of 66 years, Bernice. Son, Dr. Richard L. (Donna) Kapral of Manlius, NY. Daughters, Lorraine (William) McPherson of Saratoga Springs, NY and Joan E. Kapral of Delmar, NY. Grandchildren, Christine (Jamie) Chivers, Eric Kapral, Craig (Kristine) Kapral, Keira (John) Clark, Megan (Corey) Lis, Jamie (Kylie) McPherson, Ian McPherson, Elijah Bonvell and Caleb Bonvell. Great Grandchildren, Kyler McPherson, Aidan Clark and Ryan Lis. Sisters, Mary (Chester) Harzinski, Susan Kerchensteiner and Helen (James) Warunek all of Corning, NY. Also numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceasing him were his brother, John Kapral and sister, Anna Buchko.
Family and frriends are invited to call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, NY, Tuesday April 4, 2006 from 9-11am. Funeral and Committal Prayers will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Eva Mae Andrews
Elmira, N.Y.
Eva Mae Andrews 91 years formerly of Galeton, PA., more recently residing with her sister at 34 Rodaha Drive, Corning, N.Y., died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
She was born December 29, 1914 in Painted Post, N.Y. the daughter of the late Leonard Cogswell and Estella V. Long Andrews.
A lifetime resident of Galeton, PA. Graduate of Galeton High School and The Elmira Business Institute and graduate of the Beauty School in Scranton, PA.
Eva was employed in the Business Office at the Smith Glove Factory and the Galeton Production Company.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Galeton, PA., a Deacon of the Church and a member of its Choir. She was devoted to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital and the Salvation Army. She traveled extensively, visiting New Zealand, Hawaii, Brazil, Tahiti and throughout the United States. Eva enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, singing and was a meticulous gardener.
Surviving her loving and devoted sister, Alice Andrews Van Horn (and special family friend, Joe Boucher) of Corning, N.Y. Niece, Cathy Neally of Corning, N.Y. and Nephew, S. Joseph (Janet) Neally of Schaumburg, Ill. Great nieces, Allison Neally ( Steve) Goebert, Laura Neally, Morgan Neally and Great Nephew, Andrew Neally. Great Great Grand Niece, Zoe Goebert.
Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y. Friday March 31, 2006 from 4-6pm.
There will be calling hours at the First Presbyterian Church in Galeton, PA. Saturday, April 1, 2006 from 1-2pm with a Funeral Service to follow at the Church at 2:00pm. Rev. Karl Runser officiating. Committal Prayers and Interment will follow at the family plot in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton, PA.

Marian "Murnie" Ida Hemley
Corning, N.Y.
Marian (Murnie) Ida Hemley 98 years of Founders Pavilion formerly of East Third Street, died Wednesday March 22, 2006 at Corning Hospital with her grandson Stephen and his wife Prudence by her side.
She was born in Cameron Mills, N.Y. September 20, 1907, the daughter of the late Ernest and Adelaide (Addie) Bowyer Ferguson.
A lifetime resident of Corning, and graduate of Corning Free Academy.
Marian and George B. Hemley were married and he predeceased her.
She was employed for Corning Inc. retiring in 1972 with 55+ years service with the company.
Marian loved fishing on Keuka Lake and she was also an avid bowler. She enjoyed watching her favorite baseball team "The New York Mets" on TV.
She was devoted and truly loved her family and will be missed very much by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her Sisters; Eleanor Ferguson Bostwick of Corning, N.Y. and Betty Ferguson Smith of Keuka Lake, N.Y. Daughter in law; Barbara Lee Murray Hemley of Corning, N.Y. Grandson; Stephen M. (and wife Prudence A.) Hemley and Grandson, Leo Casey Hemley all of Corning, N.Y. Granddaughter; Debra Hemley (Kerry) O’Shanick of Arnold, MD., many Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and Nieces and Nephews.
She was predeceased by Son; Donald George Hemley and Sister; Evelyn Makey Wolcott.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y.
There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Fredrick George VanZile, JR.
Corning, NY
Fredrick George VanZile, Jr. 83 years of 49 River Road, died Monday March 20, 2006 at the Corning Hospital.
He was born in Nelson, Pa October 31, 1922. He was educated in the Pennsylvania School System and was a Veteran of the United States Army during World War II (1943-45) serving in Arennes, Normandy and Northern France.
Fred and Carolyn J. Phelps were married in Millerton, PA in 1951, she predeceased him on October 8, 1997.
He had been employed for Kennedy Valve, The Hygeia Plant, Thatcher Glass and he enjoyed owning and managing his own Produce Stand on the River Road.
Fred loved his family and was always there when help was needed. He will be missed by all.
Survivors are his daughters; Carolyn Ambrozik of Corning, N.Y., Mary A. Scott of Campbell, N.Y. and Patricia M. Scott Muhammed of Elmira, N.Y. Grandchildren; Angela M. (Drinivas) Kamineni., Robert J. Stephens, Timothy R. Petriwsky, Christopher R. Petriwsky, Billy John Galloway, Jeromy G. Fanton, Kittrina L. Scott, Joshua (Danielle) Scott, Wayne E. Kellogg, Fredrick Kellogg, Rebekah Kellogg, Matthew (Mary) Kellogg, Ada Arnold, Thomas Arnold and several Great Grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be a Funeral Service Monday March 27, 2006 , 11:00am at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y., President Tony Frutos officiating. Committal Prayers and Full Military Rites will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, N.Y.

George Edwin Clarkson 63 years of 376 Olive Street died unexpectedly Wednesday March 8, 2006 at his home.
He was born April 17, 1942 in Corning, N.Y. the son of the late John and Connie Hauff Clarkson. A lifetime resident of the Corning/Painted Post area and graduate of Corning Free Academy.
George and Bonita Overstrom were married August 25, 1962 in Corning, N.Y.
He was the owner/manager of the Redwood House Carpet and Decorating in Bath, N.Y.
George was an avid outdoors man, enjoying the lake, his cabin, fishing, hunting and touring the local country terrain on his ATV.
He was a devoted family man, enjoying his grandchildren and their participation with sports (he enjoyed all sports in general). George took great pride in his business and was committed to serving people.
Surviving his wife of 43 years, Bonita. Daughter; Keri (John) Wilson of Painted Post, N.Y. Sons; Kirk Clarkson of Arlington, MA., Kevin (Kelly) Clarkson of Painted Post, N.Y., and Kris (Tammy) Clarkson of Corning, N.Y. Grandchildren; Kendyl and Kyle Clarkson, Bryson, Alec and Ellie Clarkson, Derek and Hailey Smith and Chris, Jaron, and Ana Wilson. Sister; Joan (Tony) DelCastillo of Sunnyvale, CA.

Clare Sullivan Nagle Kozey

Clare Sullivan Nagle Kozey, 86 years formerly of Elmira Heights, NY and Spencer Hill, Corning, NY died Friday March 3, 2006 at the Waters of Three Rivers.
She was born March 28, 1919 in Corning, NY the daughter of the late John Patrick and Edna Frances Hultzman Sullivan. A lifetime resident of the Corning/Elmira Area and graduate of Corning Free Academy, Corning Community College and Elmira College. It was Clare’s lifelong dream to receive a College education and she accomplished her goal with great pride. Her vast interest was in History and she pursued many graduate courses.
Clare and Dr. Clyde L. Nagle were married. He predeceased her Oct. 1959. Her second marriage was to John Kozey whom predeceased her in 1997.
She was a past school board member of Thomas A. Edison School (1960-1970). Her interests were in Sports Activities, Stocks, Finance and History Education and a life long interest in Politics. Clare was a member of the Lamoka-Waneta Lake Association.
Surviving her Son, Tom and Nancy Nagle of Horseheads, NY. Daughters, Dana Kooch of Colorado Springs, CO., Christina N. (Gary Waters) Saia of Franklin, TN. and Cartha (Carl) Conklin of Waneta Lake, NY. Grandchildren, Nathan Nage, Dr. Tina (Steve Ripley) Nagle, Nicole Nagle, Tyrone (Therese) Nagle, Michelle (Michael) Wheeler, James Kooch, Darcy (Jeremiah) Lighthouse. Great Grandchildren, Tobiah Nagle, Thea Rose Nagle, Clyde J. Smith and Michael Wheeler, and Christopher William Lighthouse. Brother in law, Willard Nagle and Sister in law, Janet Sullivan. Nieces, Michelle Sullivan, Kim Quinn, Lisa Nagle. Nephews, Steve Nagle, Matthew Nagle. Also special friends Mr. & Mrs. Edward Allen.
She was predeceased by Brothers, Jack Sullivan and Richard Sullivan and Son in law, Michael Kooch.

Gerald A. "Doc" Gale 70 years of Painted Post, N.Y. died Tuesday February 28, 2006 at the Corning Hospital.
He was a retired teacher of Industrial Arts, Mechanical Drawing and Drivers Education at West High School.
Surviving his wife, Dorothy. Daughters, Tracey Gale (Tom) Yorio of Painted Post, N.Y. and Kathy (Matt) Brady of Jacksonville, Fl. Grandchildren, Brooke Helen Yorio, Connor and Kyle Brady. Brother, Ted (Kathy) Gale of Pleasantville, N.Y. Many Nieces and Nephews, among them special and devoted Nephews, Charles (Barbara) Sorge of Painted Post, N.Y. and Frank M. Sorge of Corning, N.Y.

Paul A. Thurkins
Corning, N.Y.
Paul A. Thurkins 76 years of 93 Willow Circle, Painted Post, N.Y. died Friday February 24, 2006 at the Corning Hospital.
He was born March 24, 1929 in Amberidge, PA. the son of the late Ernest and Erna Kloock Thurkins. He was a graduate of Derry Township High School, Derry, PA. and St. Vincent College, Latrobe, PA. receiving his BS Degree in Music Education.
Paul and Mildred (Millie) Baltich were married September 2, 1950 in Latrobe, PA.
He began his career in Wyalusing, PA. and went on to Lyons, N.Y. and became the Music Director and Educator at the Canisteo Central School, retiring in 1984. He also served as JV Football Coach at the Canisteo High School for fourteen years and also was a football referee.
He relocated to the area in 1979 (27 years ago). He was a member of All Saints Parish attending the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Painted Post, N.Y. and a member of the Resurrection Choir, Corning Knights of Colombus, N.Y.S. Teachers Association and N.Y.S. Retired Teachers Assocation, N.Y.S. School of Music Association, Teacher and Director at Bristol Hills Music Camp, Conductor of Hornell Symphony Orchestra, Conductor of St. Stevens Church Choir in Geneva, N.Y., Member of the Southern Tier Jazz Band, Corning Area Community Concert Band, Member of the Windjammers Circus Band, Member of the Combo group; The Four of Us, also several various other bands and pit orchestras of the area. He also did private teaching. Paul was a devoted family man, enjoying traveling and sports (especially the Pirates and Steelers)- Go Steelers! He significantly touched numerous individuals lives with his interest, guidance and motivation of music.
Surviving his wife of 55 years, Millie. Sons; David (Sherrie) Thurkins of Painted Post, N.Y., Gerald J. (Janet) Thurkins of Dallas, GA. and Jeffrey (Joanne Pounds) Thurkins of Wethersfield, CT. Daughter; Diane (Steve) Smith of Lyndon, VT. Grandchildren; Jenny, Megan, and Allison Thurkins, Gregory Thurkins, Colleen (Ryan) Harris, Michelle and Eric French, Carrie (Andrew) Evans, Nicholas and Michael Thurkins. Great Grandchild; Isaac Evans. Also several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Mark Thurkins.

Mary K. Kester
Clifton Springs, N.Y.
Mary K. Kester 88 years (formerly of Fifth Street, Corning, N.Y.), more recently of the Wayne County Nursing Home, Lyons, N.Y., died Monday February 20, 2006 at the Clifton Springs Hospital.
She was born May 31, 1917 in Corning, N.Y., the daughter of the late Leo and Mary Sullivan Krebs. A lifetime resident of Corning, graduate of Corning Free Academy, St. Joseph’s School of Nursing and received her School Nurse Teachers Certification from the University of Buffalo.
Mary and John W. Kester were married November 9, 1946 in St. Mary’s Church, Corning, N.Y. He predeceased her March 14, 1995.
She had been employed as a Nurse for the City of Corning Public Health Department, Corning Hospital and served as a School Nurse Teacher for the Corning/Painted Post School District, All Saints Academy and several other schools.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church and in the past had volunteered for several activities of the church (especially the Human Development Committee). Mary and her husband had teamed together to serve Corning Meals on Wheels, she was a member of the Self Help Group for Hard of Hearing and had given many hours of support for the group, a member of the N.Y.S. Teachers Association, and N.Y.S. Retired Teachers Association, also the Corning Home Bureau Group.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and ultimate care giver of many people. She had cared for her father and four brothers (who had resided with her and her husband, Jack) for many years. She enjoyed sewing and sharing her talents with others and floral gardening was another interest of hers. She truly loved her nursing profession and her niche as school nurse teacher, working with children was a complete joy for her.
Surviving her daughter and son in law; Molly and Derry Jackson of Palmyra, N.Y. Grandson; Jeremiah Jackson (fiancé Melanie Sigros) and Granddaughter; Kate Jackson (Nate Bernardi). Brother; Robert (Mary Jane) Krebs. Sister in law; Jean Krebs. Brother in law; Raymond Manning and Tom Kester all of Corning, N.Y. Nieces; Kathy Spaulding, Ellen Wright, Anne Clark, Martha Watt and Mary Manning. Nephews; John Manning, Tom Manning, Jim Kester, Chuck Krebs, Tom Krebs, Skip Krebs, Pat Krebs and Peter Krebs.
She was predeceased by brothers; Paul, Raymond and John Krebs. Sisters in law; Alice Krebs, Dolores Manning and Marie Kester. Nephew; Ricky Krebs.
Family and Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y. 14830 Thursday February 23, 2006 from 3-6pm. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Friday February 24, 2006 at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and Committal Prayers at 10:00am. St. Mary’s Church, Corning, N.Y. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.

Marion E. VanWoert
Bath, N.Y.
Marion Edith VanWoert 85 years formerly a resident of Caton, N.Y. for 50 years, died Friday February 17, 2006 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility.
She was born October 28, 1920 in Corning, N.Y. the daughter of the late Benjamin Jerome and Edith Wilson Hemley. A lifetime resident of the area and graduate of Corning Free Academy, Class of 1938 (member of the National Honor Society and graduated with High Honors).
Marion and Clifford Anton VanWoert were married December 27, 1938 in Corning, N.Y. He predeceased her August 4, 2002.
She is survived by daughters; Denise (Merland "Chub") Kilburn of Horseheads, N.Y. and Carolyn (William) Drake of Norwich, CT. Son; Daryl (Christine) VanWoert of Caton, N.Y. Grandchildren; Scott (Dawn) VanWoert, Brett (Heidi) VanWoert all of Corning, N.Y., Lynette (Brian) Schlicher, Suzanne (Robert) Halm all of Painted Post, N.Y., Daryl (Kristine) Drake and Kerry (John) Plikus all of Norwich, CT. Step-Grandchildren; Kelly Cardi of Elmira, N.Y. and Kammy (Michael) Gervais of Delmar, N.Y. Also eleven Great Grand Children and six Step-Great Grandchildren. Also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by Three Sisters; Mildred Sinkle, Tammy Krebs and Dorothy Alger. Three Brothers; Joseph Hemly, Watson Hemly and George Hemley.
Marion was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a true homemaker. Her family was her life and she was praised as a great cook and famous for her baking. She will truly be missed by her family and friends.

A Funeral Service will follow at 7:00pm, the Rev. Ronald Abersold officiating. Prayers of Committal and Interment will be held at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery, Caton, N.Y.
