Elmira, N.Y.
Richard Horton Giles 89 years of Painted Post, N.Y. died Wednesday February 8, 2006 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
He was born November 23, 1916 in Hornell, N.Y. the son of the late Horton John and Dorothy Mae Spears Giles. He was a graduate of Addison High School and a Veteran Technical Sargent of the United States Army, during World War II (1941-45) serving in the European Theater in Africa, Italy, Southern France and Germany.
He was retired as a General Machinist for General Motors in Rochester, N.Y. Richard was very skilled and a perfectionist at most trades.
Richard and Katherine Marie Bay were married November 17, 1945 in St. Ann’s Church, Hornell, N.Y. She predeceased him December 11, 2004. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and brother, giving many years service as a past Cub Scout leader and Scout Master in the Boy Scouts of America (at St. Michael’s, Rochester, N.Y.), a member of All Saints Parish attending St. Vincent de Paul Church, Corning, N.Y. Past Member of the Holy Name Society, Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Retreat League.
Survivors include his son; Robert Giles of Rochester, N.Y. Sister; Catherine (Jerome) Fich, of Tioga, PA. Also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y.
Sunday February 12, 2006 from 2-5pm with a Prayer Service at the Funeral Home Monday February 13, 2006 at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Corning, N.Y. Committal Prayers, Full Military Rites and Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Freemont, N.Y.

Allice Hultzman
Worcester, MA.
Alice Murphy Hultzman 84 year, a life long resident of the Corning area (residing with her son, Thomas Hultzman since 2004) died Monday January 30, 2006 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA
She was born June 30, 1921 in Corning, N.Y., the daughter of the late John W. and Cecilia Wixted Murphy. She was a graduate of Corning Free Academy.
Alice and Francis P. Hultzman were married October 4, 1943 at St. Mary’s Church in Corning and had celebrated 58 years of marriage. He predeceased her September 7, 2001.
She had been employed for Corning Inc., the Head Start Program, Corning Painted Post School District (serving as secretary for the assistant principle at East High School).
Surviving her Son; Thomas Hultzman of Worcester, MA., Her life long friend and Sister; Marian Murphy Dailey of Horseheads, N.Y. and numerous other caring relatives and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was very proud of her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son Timothy Hultzman and brothers; John Murphy and James Murphy.
Alice was blessed with a long life and she wishes to thank all her many friends and relatives who touched her life with joy and happiness.
Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y. Friday February 3, 2006 from 4-7pm. A prayer service will be offered at the funeral home Saturday February 4, 2006 at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and Committal Prayers at 9:30am. St. Mary’s church, Corning, N.Y. Sophia Lisi
Painted Post, N.Y.
Sophia Lisi 83 years formerly of Wall St., Corning, N.Y. died Thursday January 26, 2006 at the Waters of Three Rivers.
She was born in February 7, 1922 in Hornell, N.Y. the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret Miele Ermy. A resident of the Hornell and Corning areas, attending St. Anne’s Catholic School in Hornell, N.Y.
Sophia and Dominic J. Lisi were married April 12, 1947 in St. Anne’s Church, Hornell, N.Y. He predeceased her December 29, 1998.
She was an employee of Corning Inc. working in The Food Service Department of the Corning Glass Museum Cafeteria, retiring with twelve years service.
She was a Member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Vincent de Paul Church, The Marconi Lodge Auxillary. Sophia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. Her true joy in life was her family. Her interests were playing Canasta with many friends and supporting the Yankee and Notre Dame Teams.
Surviving her daughter; Theresa (Thomas) Rossettie of Corning, N.Y. Sons; Anthony (Theresa Bruner) Lisi of Painted Post, N.Y. Dominick (Mary Kay McCaffery) Lisi of Corning, N.Y. and Joseph (Heather) Fenti of Hornell, N.Y. Grandchildren; Joseph (Kate) Rossettie, Gina Rossettie and Christina Rossettie, Anthony Lisi and Erin Lisi, Michael Lisi, Heather (Adam) Barr, Dominick and Colleen Lisi, Joseph Lisi and Neiko Lisi and Kerrigan Lisi and Hallie Fenti and Maria Fenti. Two Great Grandchildren; Torrin Lisi and Kaia Rose Lisi. Brother; Anthony-Butch (Dorothy) Ermy of Hornell, N.Y. Sisters; Mary Noble and Lucie Scrocco both of Hornell, N.Y. and Ann (Louis) Bozzette of Mt. Morris, N.Y. and Mitzi (Peter) Cartella of Rochester, N.Y. Also many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by sister and brother in law, Adeline and Joseph Schillaci.

Lorraine Mae Konopski

Lorraine Mae Konopski 74 years of King Circle, Corning, N.Y., died Tuesday January 24, 2006 at the Elcor Health Services.
She was born December 29, 1931 in the Town of West Union, N.Y., the daughter of the late Durward and Vera McGraw Bowles.
A resident of the Corning area most of her lifetime and a graduate of Northside Blodgett School.
Lorraine and Stanley F. Konopski were married October 31, 1953 in St. Patrick’s Church, Corning, N.Y.
She was employed with Corning Inc. and retired in 1993 as a Service Representative for the Corning Credit Union (20 years service).
Lorraine was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church and had volunteered for the Bingo Program and the Food Pantry.
She loved flowers and gardening. Her devotion was to her family which she truly loved and adored.
Her smile and caring ways will certainly be missed by family and friends.
Surviving her husband of 52 years; Stanley.

Mary Jane Findlay 71 years of Meadowbrook Drive died January 17, 2006 at her home.
She was born in Prattsburg, N.Y. the daughter of the late George Robert and Grace Evelyn Faulkner Pulver.
Mary was employed with the family business (Webb’s Fish Market) from 1961 - 1970.
She is survived by daughters; Faith E. Findlay of Elmira, N.Y. and Theresa Hodder of GA.
Arrangements are with Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning, N.Y.
Committal Prayers and Interment were held Tuesday January 24, 2006 at the family plot in Nondaga Cemetery, Bath, N.Y.

Shane VanEtten
Shane Douglas VanEtten, 25 years of 246 Chambers St., Beaver Dams, N.Y., died Saturday January 14, 2006 at Badger Creek Apts., Erwin.
He was born January 17, 1980 in Elmira, N.Y. the son of Douglas W. and Sandra Lea Slade VanEtten. Shane was a lifetime resident of the area and attended Corning/Painted Post East High School. He was an avid football and NASCAR fan, enjoyed music, cooking and being with friends. He loved life and will be missed by family and friends.
Surviving his parents; Douglas and Sandra VanEtten of Beaver Dams, N.Y. Sons; Caleb and Logan. Sister; Shalene Renee VanEtten of Houston, TX. Paternal Grandmother, Mae Cross of Corning, N.Y. Several Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and cousins and special friend Teresa McMillan.
He was predeceased by Maternal Grandmother, Ellen Clarkson and Grandfather, Douglas W. VanEtten , Jr.

Pauline "Polly" Randall

Pauline "Polly" M. Randall, 78 years of 3005 Watkins Rd., Horseheads, N.Y. died Saturday January 14, 2006 at Bethany Manor.
She was born June 20, 1927 in Hammondsport, N.Y. the daughter of the late Cyrus and Dorothy Chase Townsend. She was a graduate of Haverling High School in Bath, N.Y. and relocated to the Corning Area in 1945.
Pauline and Lyman J. Randall were married December 15, 1945 in Rochester, N.Y. He predeceased her February 23, 2002. She was employed for Corning Painted Post School District in food service at East High School, retiring with 18 years service.
Pauline was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Corning, she had taught First Grade Church School at the First United Methodist Church on the Southside and Grace United Methodist Church, the Ladies Home Bureau of Corning and the Southern Tier Antique Auto Club and she volunteered at the Voting Polls. Pauline enjoyed traveling and loved to have rummage sales. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was very involved with the grandchildren, attending school and sport activities.

Dorothy M. Axtell 81 years of Markle Road, Big Flats, N.Y. died Thursday January 5, 2006 at Corning Hospital.
She was born December 6, 1924 in Clarksville, TN the daughter of the late Edward and Rosa Nichols Blanton. She was a graduate of the Clarksville High School.
Dorothy and Larry Axtell were married in Elmira, N.Y. He predeceased her February 8, 1984.
She was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church in Horseheads, N.Y. Her hobbies were working in her yard, gardening, sewing, traveling, and spending time with her family and many friends. Her heart was full of love for the Lord and her children.
Surviving her Daughters; Shirley Burns of Robertsdale, Al, Deborah Noyes of Pensacola, Fl., Patricia (Bernie) Bonnell of Corning, N.Y., and Margaret Shepherd of Pensacola, Fl. Son; Robert (Grace) Shephard of Horseheads, N.Y. and her Sister; Edna Traylor of Clarksville, TN. Ten Grandchildren and Thirteen Great Grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her Son; Ronald Shephard.

Harold S. Morgan

Harold S. Morgan 77 years of 101 Columbia Street died Thursday January 5, 2006 at Corning Hospital.
He was born in Campbell, N.Y. February 14, 1928 the son of the late John T. and Ella C. Vine Morgan. A lifetime resident of the area and graduate of Campbell Central School.
He was a Veteran of the Army Air Force, Sixth Air Force Division serving 3 years in the Panama Canal Zone, receiving World War II Victory Medal.
Harold and Nancy C. Robinson were married April 25, 1953 in Corning, N.Y.
He was employed with Corning, Inc. as supervisor of Steuben Glass Manufacturing, retiring in 1984 with 36 years service with the company.
He was a member of the North Baptist Church of Corning, Member and Volunteer of the Senior Center and member of Disabled American Veterans Commanders Club. Harold enjoyed charitable work and helping others, especially St. Jude Children’s research Hospital.
Surviving his wife Nancy. Daughter; Carol (William) Gerow of Painted Post, N.Y. Granddaughter; Carrah L. Gerow of Painted Post, N.Y. Sister; Eleanor (Dr. William) Stewart of Englewood, Fl. Brother; David Morgan (Mary Wenck) of Corning, N.Y. Brother in laws; Lawrence (Helen) Shaut Jr. of Big Flats, N.Y. David (Dorothy) Schmidt of Monterey, N.Y. and David (Jean) Robinson of Fl. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friends; Jeannett Gellart and Jeanne Desposito and also many other special friends.
He was predeceased by Daughter; Valerie J. Morgan Valdez (2003) and Brother; John T. Morgan.
All of us who knew Harold will remember him as a kind, selfless man, with a generous heart. We can’t think of Harold without recalling his great smile and unending sense of humor.
He was a man of phenomenal compassion for others. He was a testament to the words dedicated in every sense; in his work, to his church, to his family and friends. While we rejoice that his soul will live eternally, those of us who dearly loved him, shall miss him every day.

Dorothy A. Simmers 89 years of State Rt. 414, Beaver Dams, N.Y. died Thursday January 5, 2006 at the Corning Hospital.
She was born April 23, 1916 in Van Ormer, PA. the daughter of the late John and Edna Rickard Hall. She was a graduate of Reede Township High School in Pennsylvannia.
She relocated to the area in 1936. Dorothy and Charles N. Simmers were married and he predeceased her in June 1962.
She was employed with Olin Mills Photography Co. as Branch Manager retiring with 15 years service with the company.
Dorothy was a member of All Saints Parish attending St. Vincent de Paul Church and a member of the Corning Lodge of Moose Auxiliary.
Her great interest and love was her family, which she had given tender loving care from a very early age. Over the years she had enjoyed traveling world wide.
Surviving her Daughters; Shirley (Arthur) Wilcox of Nichols, N.Y. and Cynthia (Charles) Hatcher of Beaver Dams, N.Y. Sons; Charles (Wanda) Simmers of Beaver Dams, N.Y. and John Simmers of Warrenton, VA. Sister, Thelma (Rick) Bliss of Lawrenceville, PA. Eight Grandchildren and Thirteen Great Grandchildren. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

Agnes Dolores Manning 86 years of 249 Dodge Avenue, Corning, N.Y. died Thursday January 5, 2006 at Elcor Health Services.
She was born June 18, 1919 in Corning, N.Y. the daughter of the late Lynn W. and Agnes D. McCarthy Kester. A lifetime resident of Corning and graduate of Northside High School (class of 1937).
Agnes and Raymond W. Manning were married May 8, 1943 in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Corning, N.Y.
She was a Telephone Operator for New York Telephone Company retiring in 1974 with over 40 years service.
Her hobby was collecting many many post cards from all over the world. She was an avid bowler and was a member of several leagues in the area.
Agnes was adored by her family and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was a member of All Saints Parish attending St. Vincent de Paul Church, Paster member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Joseph #139 of Corning and member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Raymond. Sons; John R. (Patricia) Manning of Sault St. Marie, MI and Thomas R. (Debborah) Manning of Beaver Dams, N.Y.
Daughters; Mary Agnes Manning of Oswego, N.Y. Grandchildren; Nicole Manning, Karie (Joseph) Magliocca and Laura (Steven) Wright, Kimberly (David) Tretowicz, Felicia (Pasquale) DiRenzo and Myron Tongue, Jr. Brother, Thomas L Kester of Corning, N.Y. Niece, Molly (Derry) Jackson and Nephew, James (Nancy) Kester. Special friends, Greg and Brenda Hafer.
She was predeceased by her brother, John W. Kester.
