Charles Robert Landis
Elmira, N.Y.
Charles Robert Landis 79 years of Corning, N.Y. died Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
He was born April 2, 1926 in Lindley the son of the late George and Ruth Carey Landis, a lifetime resident of the area and graduate of Lindley School and Coring Northside Class of 1944. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Charles and Margaret Alice McCarthy were married June 14, 1947, St. Vincent de Paul Church. She predeceased him May 4, 2002. He was employed as an installer/repairman for the New York Telephone Company. He was a member of the All Saints Parish, attending St. Vincent de Paul, member of the Corning VFW and the American Legion John P. Eaton Post.
Charles enjoyed golfing and bowling in past years. Charles had an incredible outlook on life and had great courage throughout his lifetime. He had a close network of friends ("family") at the Central Restaurant, which was appreciated by everyone. He was truly a wonderful and loving father.
Surviving his Daughter; Pamela A. (James P. Bennett) Landis of Elmira, N.Y. Five Sisters in law; Grace (Frank) Wilson of Painted Post, N.Y., Rita McCaffery of Corning, N.Y., Maureen McCarthy of Corning, N.Y., Mary McCarthy of Binghamton, N.Y., and Joanna McCarthy of Schenectady, N.Y.
He was predeceased by Brother Howard Landis and Sister Myra Barnard. Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 East First St. Corning, N.Y. Friday, August 19, 2005 from 4-7pm followed by Funeral and Committal services at 7pm. Interment and Committal will be held in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Corning, N.Y.
The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Charles name to the Charity of ones choice.

Sylvia M. Pierri
Montour Falls, NY
Sylvia M. Pierri 84 years, formerly of 4 Fenderson St., Painted Post, NY, died Sunday August 14, 2005 at Seneca View.
She was born May 22, 1921 in Galeton, PA, the daughter of the late Louis and Nicoletta Cafarelli Piaquadio. She attended the Galeton School System. Sylvia and Raymond J. Pierri were married June 30, 1962 in St. Bibiana’s Church, Galeton, PA. At that time she relocated to Corning, NY. She was a member of All Saints Parish, attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Surviving her beloved husband of 43 years, Raymond. Daughter, Lisa (Michael) Fish of Corning, NY. Son, Guy Pierri of Corning, NY. Step son, Raymond S. (Laurie) Pierri of Horseheads, NY. Grandchildren; Michael, Hailey, and Lettie Fish and Joseph, Dominic and Benjamin Pierri. Sister, Grace Lappa of Galeton, PA. Also several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Karen Finucane.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Corning, NY Thursday August 18, 2005 at 9:30am. Committal Prayers and Interment will be held at a later date at the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Stuart "Pop" Cloos
Corning, N.Y.
Stuart "Pop" Cloos 71 years 117 East Fifth St. died unexpectedly Thursday August 11, 2005 at Corning Hospital.
He was born in Wellsboro, PA September 27, 1933 the son of Llewellyn and Erma Root Cloos. He was a graduate of Wellsboro High School and was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the military police in Germany. He relocated from Lawrenceville, PA to the local area in 1973.
Stuart and Norma Clark were married October 6, 1973 in Painted Post, N.Y. He was a former employee of the A & P Company. The Dept. Of Social Services and Dresser Rand Company retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Corning Loyal Order of Moose, a member of the Moose Bowling League. In 1950 he was a baseball pitcher for Corning Professional Baseball League and the Elmira Pioneers. Stuart was an avid New York Yankee fan and enjoyed hunting with his sons and grandson.
Surviving his wife; Norma. Mother; Erma Cloos of Wellsboro, PA. Daughter; Jodi (Steve) Button of Corning, N.Y. Sons; Eugene (Cecilia) Cloos of Hopkinsville, K.Y., Matthew (Amanda) Cloos of Salem, IL, Grandchildren; Jonathon (Nicole) Stuart, Taylor Stuart, Seth Cloos, Sierra Cloos, Samantha Cloos, Emily Cleveland, Christopher Cloos, Caitlin Cloos.
Brother; Lyle (Linda) Cloos of Blossburg, PA. Sisters; Marilyn ( Ken) Losinger of Wellsboro, PA, Shirley Kriner of Wellsboro, PA., Arlene (Ray) Underwood of Painted Post, N.Y. and Linda Cloos of Wellsboro, PA.
Mother in law; Mildred Rarrick of Caton, N.Y. Sister in law; Donna (Roger) Robbins of South Corning, N.Y. Also several nieces, nephews. Special beloved, faithful companion, his beagle Lu Lu.
He was predeceased by his father; and daughter, Jolene Stuart.
A funeral service will be held at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 E. First St. Corning, N.Y. Tuesday August 16, 2005 at 11:00am, Chaplain Kit Tobin officiating.

Lucy Schimizzi

Lucy M. Schimizzi 80 years of 351 West Third Street died Friday August 12,2005 at the Corning Hospital.
She was born December 12, 1924 in Corning, N.Y. the daughter of the late Constantino and Philomenia Farrado Costello. A lifetime resident of Corning and a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School and Corning Free Academy.
Lucy and Joseph G. Schimizzi were married April 14,1951 in Corning. Joseph predeceased her June 3,1995.
She was a secretary of Corning Inc. retiring in 1987 with 37 years active service. Lucy had just received her 55 year service pin from the company. She was also employed for Congressman Amory Houghton from 1988-2001.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church.
Surviving her son and daughter in law; Joseph M. and Lisa Schimizzi of Corning, N.Y.
Daughter and son in law; Lisa and Patrick O’Dea of Albany, N.Y. Grandchildren Theresa, Maureen and Maria Schimizzi and Joe and Liam O’Dea. Sister and brother in law; Mary and Walter Briggs of Dallas, T.X. Two brothers; Angelo Costello of Corning, N.Y. and Sam Costello of Houston, T.X. Also several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home 216 East First Street Corning, N.Y. Sunday August 14, 2005 from 4-7pm. A prayer service will be held Monday August 15, 2005 9:00am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am St. Mary’s Church. Joan Tonery Tunney
Joan Tonery Tunney, 86 years of 33 Sims Avenue, Corning, NY and Keuka Lake died unexpectedly at St. Mary’s Hospital, Amsterdam, NY, en route to a family visit in New Hampshire, Monday July 25, 2005.
She was born February 5, 1919 in Manchester, NH, the daughter of the late Joseph and Susan Gallagher Tonery. She was a graduate of the Public Schools of Manchester, NH and Chamberlayne Junior College in Boston, MA.
Joan and Joseph Tunney were married February 14, 1942 at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC.
She had resided in the area since 1946 and was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church, past member of the Corning Hospital Chapter L., a member of the Corning Country Club and she bowled with women members of the country club. Joan was a loving a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she especially cherished and loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed visiting with her family in New Hampshire and her friends in Florida.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Joseph. Daughter; Susan (Fred) Goosen of Rochester, NY, son; John C. (Michele) Tunney of Corning, NY. Grandchildren; Christine Murray, Kate Goosen, Ben Goosen, Alex Goosen, Caitlin Tunney, Christopher Tunney, Timothy Tunney, Ryan Tunney and Cara Tunney. Sister; Susan Quimby of Manchester, NH, brothers-in-law; William (Doris) Tunney of Chicago, IL, and Gene (Nancy) Tunney of Corning, NY. Sister-in-law; Elizabeth Tunney of Bath, NY, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers; John, Joseph and Christopher Tonery.
Family and friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY, Thursday, July 28, 2005 from 4-7pm. A Prayer Service will be offered at the funeral home, Friday, July 29, 2005 at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, St. Mary’s Church at 10:00am. Committal Prayers and Interment will be held in the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Corning, NY.

Alexander "Al" Manuilow
Alexander "Al" Manuilow Jr., 58 years of Hickock Road, died Friday, July 15, 2005 at the Corning Hospital.
He was born February 24, 1947 in Corning, NY the son of the late Alexander Sr, and Martha Reed McChesney Manuilow. Al was a lifelong resident of the area, and was a graduate of Haverling High School, Bath, NY.
Al was an employee of Founders Pavilion and Corning Hospital working as a certified nurses assistant, and ward clerk.
He was a member of the Corning VFW Auxiliary #524. Al was always looking out for others, and was always there when someone needed something done. He also loved animals and flowers.
He is survived by son; Ralph Manuilow of Corning, NY, and daughters; Nancy Manuilow of Corning, NY and Victoria Manuilow of Watkins Glen, NY. Brothers; Bruce Manuilow of Corning, NY and Morgan Manuilow of Painted Post, NY. Three granddaughters, also nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister; Roduska MCChesney in 1972..
Friends and family may call at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY, Sunday, July 17, 2005 from 1-3pm. A Funeral Service and Committal Prayers will be held at the conclusion of calling hours, 3:00pm.

Allen Goodman
Allen Goodman, 50 years of 41 Clark Street, Painted Post, NY died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the Corning Hospital.
He was born July 16, 1954 in Long Island, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Julius Goodman. He had received his education in the New York City School System.
While in New York City, he had been employed as a stagehand and makeup artist in the theater.
He is survived by his son; Gary Goodman of Painted Post, NY, Special friends; Gary & Lynn Ferron of Bath, NY, Jill Marshall of Bath, NY, Linda Barnard of Corning, NY and Karen Button of Florida.
Funeral Service will be held at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY, Thursday, July 14, 2005 at 2:00pm, Chaplin Kit Tobin of Corning Hospital officiating. Committal Prayers and Interment will follow at Coopers Plains Cemetery, Painted Post, NY.
The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Allen’s name to: American Diabetes Foundation Juvenile Division, 1660 Duke St, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Josephine A. Mocker
Elmira, NY
Josephine A. Mocker,86 years, formerly of Chemung St., Corning, NY and most recently of Barton's Adult Home, Elmira, died Thursday, July 7, 2005 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
She was born in Corning, NY, February 8, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Mary Malnic Palyun. A lifetime resident of the area, she had attended Corning Free Academy.
Josephine and Marcus F. Mocker were married October 10, 1942 at St. Patrick's Church, Corning. He predeceased her February 25, 1994.
She had been employed with Corning Incorporated as an inspector, with 10 years service with the company.
Josephine was a member of All Saints Parish and had attended St. Patrick's Church. She loved her family, and enjoyed caring for her special granddaughter, Joann. Her other enjoyments were cooking, dancing, canning, collecting Fenton glass, shopping and long Sunday rides.
She is survived by daughter; Mary Jo (Robert) Wich and their daughter Joann of Painted Post, NY and daughter; Margaret (Clayton) Schoonover of Corning, NY and Margaret's son; Marcus (Jodelle) Cook of Horseheads, NY . Sisters; Marion (Arthur) Gill and Elizabeth Stocum, and brother; James (Midge) Palyun all of Corning, NY. Brother-in-law; Guilio Antonio of Painted Post, NY. Also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son; William F. Mocker who died in 1968 while serving his country in the Viet Nam Conflict. Also sisters; Helen Bock, Cecilia Antonio, Julia Palyun, brothers; Michael Palyun, Joseph Palyun and John Palyun.
Friends and family may call at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY, Sunday July 10, 2005 from 2-5pm. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 11, 2005 at 10:30am at the funeral home. Committal Prayers and Interment will follow in the family plot at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Edgeton "Junie" Palmer

Edgeton T. "Junie" Palmer, 76 years formerly of Glen Ave, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at Corning Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1929 in Corning, NY, the son of the late Edgeton C. and Sarah Terwilliger Palmer. A lifetime resident, he was a graduate of Northside High School.
Junie was a farmer for several years and also was a retired school bus and charter bus driver for Birnie Transportation of Corning, NY. He was a member of the Caton Grange. Junie loved people and volunteered much of his time to service others. He also was an animal lover. Junie had played in a band earlier in life and continued to enjoy country music.
He is survived by family and many special friends and was truly loved by all.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY.

Jacob "Jake" Kline
Ithaca, NY
Jacob L. "Jake" Kline, 85 years, formerly of Laurel St. and Sly Ave, Corning, NY died Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the Lakeside Nursing Home.
He was born June 10, 1920 in Scranton, PA, the son of the late Ira M. and Elizabeth Lofe Kline. Jake was a graduate of Shickshinny High School and was president of the class of 1938.
He was a veteran of World War II (1940-45), serving as a Gunnery Sargent with the United States Army.
Jacob and Ethel M. Shaffer were married April 7, 1947 in Sayre, PA. She predeceased him June 2, 1996.
He was a retiree of Ingersoll Rand at Painted Post, NY were he was a casting cleaner.
Jake was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Corning, NY, the Corning VFW, John P. Eaton American Legion Post, Ingersoll Rand Service Organization and Corning Odd Fellows.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. The song of Hiawatha was his favorite poem, to the extent of writing a sequel to the poem which remains incomplete. He was a loving and caring person, sharing lots of Hershey Kisses with the nursing staff and friends.
He is survived by son; Richard (Anne) Kline of Ithaca and step-son; Kenneth (Jeanette) Braken of Sayre, PA, daughter; Marilyn Elliott of Washington, step-daughter; Linda (Harry) Scoville of Stanton, MO. One grandson, seven granddaughters, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A sister; Myrtle Thomas of Corning, NY.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY.
There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at the Grace United Methodist Church, 191 Bridge St., Coning, NY, Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 10:00am, The Rev. Kathleen Turnbole officiating, followed by Committal Prayers and Full Military Rites in the family plot at Chapel Knoll Cemetery.

Florence Cummings
Corning, NY
Florence N. Cummings, 88 years, formerly of Big Flats, NY died Tuesday June 21, 2005 at her home, 101 Columbia Street.
She was born December 11, 1916 in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of the late Michael and Rose Coury Nasser. She came to the Corning area at an early age and has resided here since then, graduating from St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic School and Corning Free Academy (Class of 1933).
Florence and Marvin Cummings were married in November of 1939 at St. Patrick’s Church, Corning, NY. He predeceased her May 1, 2000.
She had been employed with the Security Trust, Fleet and Community Banks for ten years and also with the Corning Leader from 1958-1972 with twenty years service.
She was a member of All Saints Parish attending St. Vincent de Paul and St. Mary’s Churches.
Surviving her sons; Richard Paul (Sharon) Cummings of Hertford, NC and Dr. John L. Cummings FMS of St. Petersburg, FL. Grandsons; Richard, Jr. (Carrie) Cummings of Bethlehem, PA and James Cummings of Allentown, PA. Sister; Leona Monsour of Syracuse, NY. Also several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A Prayer Service will be held Friday, June 24, 2005 9:00am at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St, Corning, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 9:30am at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Committal Prayers and Interment will be held at the family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Corning, NY.
The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Florence’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
