Allison Lemuel (Al) Schutt Sr, 95 years formerly of 78 Winfield St, Corning, NY went to his eternal rest, Friday, February 18, 2005 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.
He was born May 25, 1909 in Halsey Valley, NY, the son of the late John and Coral Grover Schutt. He had attended the Tioga Center Schools.
Allison and Loretta Quail were married December 31, 1934 in Elmira, NY, celebrating 41 years of marriage prior to her death on August 13, 1975.
During his lifetime, Al had many ventures from a fruit vendor, to a milkman (delivering by horse & wagon), to a shoe salesman, Penn and Lehigh Valley Railroad and then was employed as a crane operator for General Electric Foundry until he relocated in Corning in 1948. In 1949 he purchased property on Winfield Street and began a Scrap Recycling and Used Car business, operating until his retirement in 1974. In the 50's he also ventured into establishing a dance hall "Brookside Hall" in Tioga, PA, promoting acts by Doug & Rusty Kershaw, Marvin Rainwater, Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper. Also proprietor of the Central Hotel in Corning, NY. His interest and hobby was Race Cars. Al owned and raced cars for 17 years. He began racing in the 60's with a dirt car, racing in Chemung & Dundee, he also ran modified (70's & 80's) at Owego and the Northern Racing Circuit, racing with drivers; Geoff Bodine, Jimmy Spencer, Richie Evans, Dutch Hoagg and Maynard Troyer. Noted drivers that drove for Al were, Don Whalen, Billy Griffin, Sonny Lanford and Mike Lozier. He also owned a late model that Freddy Quail drove.
Surviving his daughter & son-in-law; Betty & Bob Crasper of Inverness, FL, Sons & daughters-in-law; Allison (Sonny) & Annie Schutt, Roy & Mary Schutt and Floyd & Teresa Schutt all of Corning, NY. Also several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Two brothers; Stanley Schutt of Savona, NY and Phillip Schutt of Ocala, FL. Also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by daughters; Mary Ann Schutt, Joyce Iannarilli and Barbara Tallarida. Sisters; Mildred Mangan, Mary Worth, and brothers; Robert Schutt, Warren Schutt and Merle Schutt.
Allison attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church, was a past member of the Corning Lodge of the Moose, and was a social member of the Corning VFW and member of the NASCAR Association.
Allison was full of life and his family was a very important part of his life. He enjoyed sitting around the table telling stories of his childhood and loved listening to "Family News". He lived for his family and friends and would do anything possible to help those in need. He will be loved always and missed dearly.

Gertrude (Gert) M. Todd, 101 years, formerly of Corning, NY, died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at St. John’s Home.
She was born May 20, 1903 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late George C. And Bertha Lutz Schaller. Lifetime resident of Corning, graduating from St. Patrick’s Catholic School.
Gertrude and Edward Richard Todd were married in Corning, October 23, 1923. He predeceased her August 8, 1977. She was a loving wife, mother and truly a caring and gentle grandmother.
Surviving her three daughters; Marguerite (James) Fish of Painted Post, NY, Helene (John) Sutton of Corning, NY, Barbara Garvey of Fairport, NY, son; Richard Todd of Rochester, NY. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Two sisters; Caroline O’Brian of Painted Post, NY and Florence Connaughton of Corning, NY, also several nieces and nephews.

Louise Bierwiler
Louise Patterson Bierwiler, 89 years formerly of State Street, died Friday, February 4, 2005 at Founders Pavilion.
She was born September 1, 1915 in Painted Post, NY, the daughter of the late Simon and Harriet Whipple Patterson. A lifetime resident of the area and graduate of Painted Post High School.
Louise and Francis Bierwiler were married June 22, 1935 in St. Patrick’s Rectory, Corning, NY. Francis predeceased her December 16, 1993.
She had been employed as a seamstress and clerk for 14 years with Penney’s in Corning.
Louise was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Patrick’s and St. Mary’s Churches.
Surviving are her sons; Thomas (Leslie) Bierwiler of Willard, NC, Frank (Maureen) Bierwiler of Spring Hill, FL, Michael (Kathie) Bierwiler and Peter (Janis) Bierwiler all of Painted Post, NY. Daughters; Jacqueline Raniewicz of Rochester, NY, Patricia (David) Shaddock of Corning, NY, JoAnn DiLaura of Painted Post, NY, Elizabeth Bloise of Beaverton, OR, Louise (Joe) Maio of Corning, NY and Helen Bierwiler of Corning, NY. Thirty One Grandchildren and Forty Seven Great Grandchildren. Niece; Marion Smith of Big Flats, NY, also several other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her ten siblings and sons-in-law; Joseph DiLaura and Leonard Raniewicz.
Louise took great pride in her children and grandchildren and she will be loving held forever in their hearts.

Robert "Bob" E. Ainsworth, 83 years of 210 Seneca Street, died Thursday, February 3, 2005 at Corning Hospital.
He was born April 13, 1921 in Corning, NY the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth Rahilly Ainsworth. A lifetime resident of Corning, graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School, Corning Free Academy and St. Bonaventure University.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving during World War II (1942-45) with the Flying Tigers stationed in China.
Robert and Dorothy Scholl were married April 7, 1947 in St. Mary’s Church, Elmira, NY. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1997.
We was employed with Corning Inc. As a Senior Sales Associate retiring in 1986 with 38 years active service with the company.
He was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Vincent de Paul Church, and the Corning Lodge of Elks #1071.
Surviving his wife Dorothy, sons; Robert N. (Katharine) Ainsworth of Bath, NY and Dennis E. (Bonnie) Ainsworth of Corning, NY. Daughters; Susan Hogan of Woodbridge, VA, Mary Elizabeth (Vincent) Pugliese of Woodbridge, VA and Carrie (John) Wright of Reba, MD. Nine Grandchildren; Kristen Hogan, Erin Hogan, Megan Hogan and Michael Hogan, Vincent Pugliese and Victoria Pugliese, Brad Ainsworth, Ryan Ainsworth and Sean Ainsworth. Brother; Henry (Margaret) Ainsworth of Lancaster, NY. Also several nieces and nephews.

Mary Catherine Coyle, 89 years, formerly of Corning Blvd., died Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at Founders Pavilion.
She was born December 3, 1915 in Corning, NY the daughter of the late Fred and Susan Maroney Coyle. Mary was a lifelong resident of Corning, graduating from St. Mary’s Catholic School and Corning School System.
She was employed as a Secretary for Corning Inc., and had received her 65th year of service pin from the company.
She was a member of All Saints Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church and the Professional Secretary’s Club of Corning. Mary was an avid reader and truly enjoyed her friends.

Ida D. Danaher, 94 years, formerly of North Place, Corning, NY died Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Waters of Three Rivers Health Care Center.
She was born December 29, 1910 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late Lee and Josephine Fisk Knowles, a lifetime resident of the area, she attended school in Campbell.
Ida and Paul James Danaher were married May 1, 1943 at St. Mary’s Church in Corning. He predeceased her March 14, 1988.
Ida had been employed with Corning Incorporated as Purchasing Agent at the A Factory.
She was a member of All Saint’s Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters, Court #39 of St. Joseph’s, a volunteer at the Corning Hospital, and the American Red Cross. She also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, She loved golf and was an avid golfer and member of Indian Hills Golf Club. Ida loved her family and enjoyed her visits with them and also liked traveling about.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law; Charles and Annette Reese of Painted Post, NY, daughter and companion; Josephine Winters and Bill Young of St. Petersburg, FL, 14 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and brother Owen Knowles of Troupsburg, NY. Also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Madeline S. Carpenter, 91 years, formerly of East Third Street, Corning, died Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Hilltop Retirement Community.
She was born in Corning, NY, August 1, 1913, the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Kurtz Stenger. A lifetime resident of the area, she was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School and Corning Free Academy.
Madeline and Allan Brooks Carpenter were married June 14, 1952 in St. Mary’s Church, Corning, NY. He predeceased her April 28, 2000.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed with Cunnings Bookstore, Corning, NY.
She was a member of All Saint’s Parish, attending St. Mary’s Church, a Eucharistic Minister for the Church, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Corning, the American Red Cross Blood Banks, volunteered for Amo Houghton’s political career.
Madeline’s joy in life was helping others. Always a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She also shared her talents of arts and crafts with family and friends, especially sewing and quilting.
She is survived by her son Joseph (Lynda) Carpenter of Binghamton, NY and daughters Mary Ann (John) Cover of Collegeville, PA and Virginia (Doug) Apelian of Ponte Vedra, FL. Grandchildren; Gregory, Kathryn and Emily Carpenter, Abigail Cover and Elise and Michael Apelian. She was predeceased by her sister, Julia Stenger.

Ruth and A. Edward Bassney were married November 16, 1940 in Corning, NY. He predeceased her June 18, 1985. She was employed as buyer in the purchasing department of Ingersoll Rand, Painted Post, NY., retiring with 35 years service with the company and Past Pres- ident of Sally Rands/Ingersoll Rand Associates. Ruth was a member of All Saints Parish, attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her interest and love always centered around her family.

She was born October 28, 1917 in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late William and Julia Lowery McCarthy. A lifetime resident of the Corning Painted Post area, and graduate of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School and Northside High School. .
Evelyn and Joseph J. Kane Sr. were married May 4, 1946 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Corning and had celebrated 51 years of marriage prior to his death, September 2, 1997.
She was a member of All Saint’s Parish, attending Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, The Catholic Women’s Club, former president of Corning Hospital Chapter Q and now known as Q Club. For many years she served as an election inspector for the town of Erwin.
She is survived by daughter; Anne (Robert) Petrantoni of Rochester, NY, sons; Joseph J. Kane Jr. Of North Hollywood, CA, William Kane of Corning, NY, Lawrence (Carol) Kane of Syracuse, NY and Mark (Barbara) Kane of Buffalo, NY. Brother; Richard (Sheila) McCarthy of Ocean Pines, MD, and sisters; Margaret McCarthy of Horseheads, NY and Mary Helen(Red) McCarthy of Arlington, VA.. Eleven Grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
