Dick was very proud to be a Navy Veteran. Those close to him knew him as a skilled bowler, accomplished carpenter, fellow Elmira Moose Member, Yankee fan and fun loving, very hard working man. Many will hold his memory close and never forget Dick's courage during the last year.

GLOVER Mabel C. Age 84 of 603 W. 2nd Street, Elmira, NY, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2001 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Mabel was born on December 10, 1916 in Saltillo, MS to the late Thomas and Isabel (Turner) Collins. She is also predeceased by her husband, James, in 1990. BRUGGER Walter H. Of Westfield, PA 92, died Sunday, February 3, 2002 inthe Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. Born July 18, 1909 in Westfield, he was the son of Mike and Magdalena Tannler Brugger. On April 15, 1940, in Taylor, PA, he married the former Leola Stump who survives. Mr. Brugger was a Veteran, having served with the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a partner in the Brugger and Crandall Garage in Westfield for 23 years. He was employed by the US Postal Service as a substitute Rural Mail Carrier. He was a member of the Westfield United Methodist Church, the Crary Hose Volunteer Fire Company in Westfield, Gerald G. Griffin American Legion Post #519 in Westfield, and many other community and civic organizations. He served on the Westfield Boro and Cowanesque Valley Joint School Boards for 13 years, the Tioga County Housing Authority for 27 years, the Tioga County Republican Committee for 6 years, and the Tioga County Planning Commission for 10 years. He delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. He was a member and Past Master of Westfield Lodge No. 477 F & AM, the Coudersport Consistory, Coudersport Royal Arch Chapter No. 263, Potter Commandery No 69 Knights Templar and the Wilkes-Barre Shrine. He was honored as a 33rd degree Mason on September 24, 1986. Surviving besides his wife are: a sister, Lillian (Vernard) Watkins of Little Marsh, PA; two brothers, Frank Brugger and Theodore Brugger, both of Turlock, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Albert, Arnold, Carl and Frederick; and three sisters, Elsie Cobb, Evelyn Dawson and Emma Mirto. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 7th in the Westfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. James F. Bellamy, OSL and the Rev. Donald Stump, co-officiating. CASTANO GREGORY SAVERIO OF HORSEHEADS NY passed away on Monday February 4 , 2002 after a short illness. Gregg was born January 19 , 1923 in Brockton , Mass. The son of the late Saverio and Francesca Castano. An Army veteran of World War II , he graduated from Boston University. Gregg retired after 30 years with the United States Defense Department. He continued to work up until his death as a consultant in the steel fabricating industry. Mr. Castano is survived by his children Francis Castano , Lisa Dowling , Marc Castano , Laura (David) Longey, and Maria (Tony) Yushinsky ; sisters and brothers-in-law: Connie Honnegger , Anita & Donald Morey , and Eleanor & John Duffy ; his beloved and loving grandchildren : Gregory Dowling , Maximilian Dowling , and Hannah Longey. Gregg is also survived by numerous cousins , nieces and nephews and their children , along with many wonderful friends. He loved his books , his music , and his hockey especially the Elmira Soaring Eagles. HAMMOND John E. Age 71 of Bradford NY, passed away Saturday evening February 2, 2002 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre PA. John was born May 11, 1930 in Lindley NY. son of Charles A. and Sarah Tubbs Hammond. On June 17, 1950 in the Corning Christian Missionary Alliance Church. John married Rena L. Perry. He was retired from Corning Inc. and recently received his 51 year pin. John enjoyed hunting and especially working on the farm that he and Rena lived on. He was very family oriented, and children and ten grandchildren were very special to him. KICHMAN Catherine Rundell Mrs. Catherine Rundell Kichman, 79, died Friday, December 21st, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born April 22nd, 1922 in Elmira, NY to Bertrum and Evelyn Rundell of Elmira, NY. She is survived by her beloved husband Paul G. Kichman, World War II veteran and retired employee of the Elmira Star Gazette. Paul now resides in Danbury, NC. She is also survived by one sister, Eleanor Rundell Sozanski, also of Elmira. Paul and Catherine had seven children: Vernell Kichman Sonner, 55, and husband Jack of Gatlinburg, TN; Paul G Kichman Jr, deceased in 1964; Vickie Kichman Smith, 51, and husband Michael of Rollinsford, NH; Lance Kichman, 48, and wife Helen of Jefferson City, TN; Annette Kichman Tenny, 44, and husband Hal of Danbury, NC; Scott Kichman, 41, and wife Akiko of Gatlinburg, TN; Michelle Kichman Wayne, 35, and husband Carl of Lincolnton, NC. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Karyn Sonner, Sarah Tenny Barbour and husband Brian, Paul Tenny, Layla and Derek Kichman, Lynsey Wayne, Alex and Rachel Smith. MONTALBANO Ester T. Verona 85, of 4576 Stoney Brook Rd., died early Sunday February 3, 2002 at Oneida Healthcare Center ECF with her family at her side. Esther was born on March 9, 1916 in Utica, New York a daughter of the late Carlo and Maria Peirrine Sforza. She was a graduate of the Albany School of Nursing. In 1948 Esther and Fred Montalbano were united in marriage in St. Helena's Church, Sherrill. Before her retirement in 1977 Esther was employed as a licensed practical nurse with the old Oneida City Hospital, on Broad Steet and Rome State School. Esther was a member of St. Helena's Church, Sherrill. Surviving are her husband Fred, two sons, Dennis Montalbano of Newark, NY, Thomas Montalbano and his wife Barbara of Oneida, one daughter, Denise Montalbano Coon and her husband Robert of Horseheads, NY, four grandchildren, Colin Huntone, Brandon Coon, Stephen and Stephanie Boyer, four great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Courtney, John William and Dianna Boyer, one brother Joseph Sforza of Oneida, three sisters, Ann Usborne of Sherrill, Mildred Yeman of Elmira Heights, and Antoinette Winterton of Verona, and several nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by three brothers Michael, Aoiley, and Victor Sforza. PARKER Robert E. age 67 of Syracuse and formerly of Elmira, NY passed away Sunday Feb. 3, 2002 in the Bath VA Medical Center. His surviving family includes his brothers and sisters, Raymond (Beverly) Parker Jr. of Horseheads, NY, David Parker of Gillett, PA, Marian (Wayne) Hungerford of Corning, NY and Corenne (Eddie) Fagan of Elmira, NY; several cousins, nieces, and nephews and a host of close friends and neighbors in the Syracuse area. He was also predeceased by a brother, Loring Parker in 1983. Bob was a machinist with Selflock Screw Products in N. Syracuse. and a veteran of the US Airforce. She was born March 11, 1961 in Elmira, NY the daughter of Milford and Ann (Springer) Doland. Janet graduated from Southside High School in 1979. She was presently employed with Progressive Transportation Services, Inc. as a bus driver for C.E.A.T.S. She attended Elmira Christian Center and was actively involved teaching in the 2 and 3 year olds Sunday School Department. On October 20, 1979, Janet married David T. Stoughton. Together they have celebrated 22 wonderful years of love and life. They have 3 beautiful children, Tristan M. Stoughton, Jamee E. Stoughton and Cody W. Stoughton. Other survivors include: her parents, Milford and Ann; sisters, Carol J. Doland, Darlene F. (Bob) Sowers; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Theresa and Douglas Stoughton; brother-in-laws, Michael L. THOMAS Tudor Smith Photo Age 94, passed away peacefully February 1, 2002 in Provo Utah. Tudor was born to Wilfred Smith and Eleanor Thomas on April 27, 1907 in Wales, Great Britain. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah (Sadie) Kelly in 1984 after 48 years of marriage. Tudor lived in Elmira for most of his life and was a Plant Supervisor for Hilliard Corp. when he retired in 1972. He is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara (Kirk) Fowler of Provo, UT and Arlene (Michael) Konkus of Horseheads, NY; 5 grandchildren, Sheree (Jeff) Garner, Laurie (Joel) Craft, Kelly (Jerry) Stayner, Blaine (Brenda) Fowler, all of Utah, and Michelle (Mark) Stantz of Big Flats, NY; 15 great-grandchildren;sister, Amelia Shappee of Elmira, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews. ANDERSON Mabel C. Age 86, of Elmira, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2002, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility, following a long physical confinement. She was born on November 17, 1915 in Antrim, PA, the daughter of Isaac and Anna Carlson Anderson. She is survived by her twin sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Everett Schott of Elmira; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Catherine VanVoorhis, Edith Taft and Ellen Anderson, and a brother, Carl Anderson. Mabel was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She graduated from Southside High School, and retired from S.F. A memorial service will follow there at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Ann Cassler officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will provide flowers. CLARK Francis W. Age 83, of 510 North Carroll St., Horseheads, NY, passed away on Sunday June 2, 2002 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Mr. Clark was born August 7, 1918 in Painted Post , NY, the son of the late Arnie and Maggie Rounsville Clark. He married his wife, Anne L. Bachert Clark, on May 28, 1948 in Lawrenceville, PA, and they recently celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary on May 28, 2002. Mr. Clark was a retired electrician with 34 years of service at Thatcher Glass Company, having retired in August 1981. Mr. Clark is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Anne L. Bachert Clark; daughter and son-in-law: Sandra Clark Celelli & Peter Celelli of Corning, NY; sons: Sidney Clark of San Francisco, CA and Stanley Clark of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren: Tonia Celelli, Geno Celilli, and Sarah Clark; great grandchildren: Dustin Catherwood and Rhianne Zarek; brother and sisters-in-law: Lewis & Doris Clark of Horseheads, NY; Evelyn Corson of Elmira, NY, and Elaine Perron of Bellfair, WA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
