HERENDEEN Peter S. Formerly of Elmira, NY Age 80, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at the Susan Wesley Facility in Hialeah, FL where he resided. He was born October 28, 2003 the son of the late Harry S. and Georgina (Perry) Herendeen. His nephew, Mark Herendeen, and his cousin, Helen Cook Miller, survive Peter. He graduated from Cornell University and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Society. Family and friends are invited to attend Graveside services on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery, 1200 Walnut Street Elmira, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, NY.

JACKSON Roy A. Age 75, of Pine City, New York, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Survivors include his longtime companion, Phyllis Sease of Pine City; children, Robin (Ron) Hannah, of KY, Tammy (Steve) Music and Verl (Leah) Sease both of FL; brother, Earl (Myrtle) Jackson of Elmira; sister, Jean Hollister of Horseheads; grandchildren, Jessica Naylor, Amanda Naylor, Nicholas Hannah, Shawna Hannah, Megan Music, Stevie Music and Matt Brookman; along with several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, August 12th from 3 to 5 PM at the James D. Barrett Funeral Home. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

JOHANNEMAN Gustave (Gus) Age 63, of Elmira, NY, passed away very unexpectedly Thursday, August 7, 2003. He was born September 28, 1939 in Livingston Manor, NY, the son of the late Della (Terwilliger) and Gustave Johaneman. Gus is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Christine (Stanton) Johanneman; daughter, April (Karl) Tice of Vestal, NY; sons, Darrell (Linda) Johanneman of Rochester, NY, and Brian Johanneman of Plantation, FL; three grandchildren, Gavin and Julia Tice of Vestal, NY, and Nathan Johanneman of Rochester, NY; sisters, Madlyn Schwartz of Daytona Beach, FL, and Helen Miller of Liberty, NY; brother, Claude (Bertie) Johaneman of Livingston Manor, NY; sister-in-law, Eleanor Johaneman of Livingston Manor, NY; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Eleanor and Robert Stanton of Lake Shehawken, PA; brothers-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Stanton of Great Bend, PA, and Bruce (Judy) Stanton of Lake Shehawken, PA; and sister-in-law, Barbara Stanton Dix of New Britian, CT; very special friends, James (Nancy) Danaher of Horseheads, NY. Gus was predeceased by brothers, Emil, Robert, and Edward Johaneman; and sister, Rose Minatti. He was a retired correctional officer with 38 years of service, and a United States Air Force Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Gus was involved with Mark Twain Little League for over 18 years. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Gus was a loving husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a dear friend to many. We loved him and we will miss him. LUCY Mary Elizabeth McCabe Age 77 of 422 Church St., Athens, PA died on Friday, August 8, 2003. Mrs. Lucy was born on November 11, 1925 in Sayre, PA to her parents Thomas P. and Mary Goodall McCabe. She is survived by daughters, Ann Lucy of Cabin John, Maryland, and Kathryn and son-in-law Richard Hughes, of Lost River, West Virginia, Eileen and son-in-law, Willam Holgate of Glenora, NY, Elizabeth and son-in-law, Laurence Reagan of Sayre, and Theresa and son-in-law, Stephen LoPresto of Waverly. One son, Charles and daughter-in-law, Nina of Granger, IN. Mrs. Lucy is survived by brothers, Robert McCabe of Waverly, and Joseph McCabe of Moorestown, NJ; sisters, Ann Burton of Sayre, Theresa Wilgus of Glenora, NY; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Lucy of Sayre. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lucy is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Charles, who passed away on June 29, 2003; her parents; brothers, Paul and Thomas McCabe; sister, Eileen McCabe. Mrs. Lucy graduated from Sayre High School and was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church. Family was very important to Mary. Family was her life. Mary spent many hours volunteering with numerous organizations such as Literacy volunteer for Bradford and Sullivan Counties, Member of the Church of the Epiphany Eucharistic Adoration Society, former member of the Board of Directors of The Tioga Point Museum, and volunteer for many years for Valley Meals on Wheels. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 9:30 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Athens, PA with Father Vincent Langan officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Epiphany Cemetery in Sayre. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Mary's name be sent to the Epiphany School, Stevenson St., Sayre, PA 18840 or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Blauvelt Funeral Home, 126 N. Elmer Ave., Sayre, PA.

MARK Dr. James Alexander Age 91 of Elmira died suddenly Thursday, August 7, 2003. Dr. Mark was born December 31, 1911, son of the late Dr. Alexander and Julia Mark. He is predeceased by his wife of fifty-five years, Katharine Murray Mark; son, James Murray Mark; brother, John Mark; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Margaret Mark; and sisters, Isobel Mark McCarthy and Sarah Mark. Dr. Mark is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Anne M. Longanecker of Bloomfield, NY; Kathleen M. and Lawrence Muscarella of Elmira; M. Bernadette Macdonald of Woodbridge VA and Julia T. and Thomas McInerney of Hornell, NY; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Mark of Horseheads; nephew, Terrence Mark, with wife Judy, of Olean, NY; sixteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Dr. Mark attended the University of Buffalo Pre-Med and Medical School and graduated in 1935. He did General Practice for ten years, then Obstetrics and Gynecology for thirty-two years. He was extremely dedicated to his practice and patients. Dr. Mark shared the Chairmanship of Obstetrics at St. Joseph's Hospital for many years with Dr. William Burke. He was a past president of St. Joseph's Hospital staff and also a past president of the Chemung County Medical Society. Dr. Mark was also a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish where he was a lector for many years. He was lifetime honorary member of Rev. Henry F. Adamski 4th Degree Assembly and the Elmira Council #229 Knights of Columbus. Dr. Mark enjoyed fishing and any time he could spend at Keuka Lake with family and friends. He will be remembered for his loving and patient manner and his generous support to the Elmira community. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Sunday, August 10, 2003 from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, August 11, 2003 at 9:15 A.M., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. BAKER Ronald Edward Age 65, of Glenburnie, MD, died Wednesday, November 26, 2003, in Gelnburnie, MD. Ronald was born in Waverly on June 22, 1938, the son of Claude and Elma Baker. Ronald is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer and Angelique of Glenburnie, MD; two brothers, William Baker and Jack Baker of Spencer; five sisters, Alberta Sherer of FL, Shirley Hess of Spencer, Betty Marshall of Cato, Mary Wyak of Spencer, Susan DiGiacomo of KS. Ronald also is survived by several aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. Ronald was predeceased by his brother, Claude. It was Ronald's request that there be no calling hours nor service.

CALLAHAN William J. Age 74, of County Rte. 59, Dexter and Cape Coral, Florida, died at 7 a.m., Saturday at his home in Dexter, under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County. He was formerly of Hoffman St., Elmira, NY. He was born on October 30, 1929, in Manhattan, the son of William and Mary Ellen Boland Callahan. He graduated from New York University with a bachelors degree. He served in the Army from 1951 until 1953 as a teletype repairman. He married Josephine T. Kwasnicki on June 13, 1954 in the Bronx, NY. The couple moved to Elmira, NY, in 1968 and he worked at the Elmira Correctional Facility as a classification analyst for 22 years. He retired in 1990 and had been living in Dexter and Cape Coral, Florida. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Josephine; his sons, William K. of Elba, NY, Robert of Horseheads, Lt. Colonel Michael of Madison, AL, and Joseph of Green Bay, WI; daughter, Carol Howard of Spencer; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. He will be cremated. Arrangements are with Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter.

CARRIGAN Catherine C. Age 85, of Corning NY, formerly of Elmira, passed away Sunday November 30, 2003 at home. Funeral arrangements, entrusted to Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., are incomplete at this time.

CORTRIGHT Stanley Asahel "Corty" Passed away peacefully Monday, December 1, 2003, at home with his loving family at his side. He was retired from Corning Glass, after several years of service. Surviving Stanley is his loving, faithful wife of 60 years, Ida Davis Cortright; a daughter, Elaine Guilbeau; sons, Thomas, Gary and Jeffrey (Jean); a sister, Velva (John) Vine; grandchildren, Sherrie Forte, Aaron Guilbeau, Donna Gridley, and William Cortright; great-grandchildren, Brittany Forte, Jared and Jenna Gridley; and several nieces and nephews. Stanley was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Orma Mackey; and a brother, Welland. Friends are invited to call at Carpenter's Funeral Home, 14 E. Pulteney St., Corning, on Wednesday, December 3, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be in First Baptist Church in Corning on Thursday, December 4, at 2 p.m. A private committal service will be in Hope Cemetery, Corning, NY. DENNIS George Edward Age 75 of Otisco, died Friday, November 28, at University Hospital, husband of the late Margaret Dennis. He retired from Lakelawn Transport, Inc. He was a life member of the Otisco Fire Department, with 33 years of active service. He was a member of the Otisco Senior Citizens and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. He is survived by two sons, Timothy and John, both of Otisco; four daughters, Carol (Mark) Houck of Moutour Falls, Kathleen Dennis of Syracuse, Elizabeth (Theodore) Byrd of E. Syracuse, and Mary Warren of Bridgeport; three sisters, Lottie Jackson of Star Lake, June Spurback of Niagara Falls, and Shirley Mehaffy of Ogdensburg; one brother, Grant M. Dennis Sr. of Ogdensburg; seven grandchildren, Katie, Ashley and Carolyn Byrd, Jessica and Joseph Warren, Sarah Houck and Michael Dennis; several nieces, nephews and cousins. DI PIPPO Judith M. Age 86, longtime resident of Eastchester, died on November 29, 2003, at White Plains Hospital. Di Pippo was born in Elmira, NY, on January 11, 1917, to Genevieve and Joseph Molinari Malone. Mrs. Di Pippo was a member of the Eastchester Women's Club for over 20 years. She was noted for her love of the Yankees and her major contributions to Mohegan Sun. She was married for 50 years to Leonard J. Di Pippo who died October 10, 1987. She was also predeceased by her two sons, John Joseph and Leonard Michael Di Pippo. She is survived by her daughters, Anne Marie Rossi and her husband, Michael, and Gina Crispo and her husband, Louis; her daughter-in-law, Debra Di Pippo; and her sister, Josephine DeVitt; two sisters, Josephine Cardarone and Genevieve Orlousky; 11 grandchildren, Leonard Vincent Di Pippo, LeeAnn and Blair Conley, Lori and John Tranghese, Judith and David Linn, Michael Rossi Jr. and Raquel Rossi, Jake and Brooke Di Pippo, Jenna and Louis Crispo; and two great-grandchildren, Vincent John and Victoria Lynn. Judith was also predeceased by her sisters, Mary Leonard and Antoinette Walsh; and her brothers, Samuel and John Malone, all of Elmira, NY. DUNLAP Rose A. Age 83, of North Carolina, formerly of Elmira, NY, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2003. Funeral arrangements, entrusted to Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., are incomplete at this time.

KRAUSE William J Age 74 of Universal Avenue, Elmira, NY passed away Sunday, November 30, 2003, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. William is survived by Shirley, his wife of 51 years; daughters, Cynthia (Rev. Howard) Brooks of Greensboro, MD, Diana Simons (Brenda Stickler) of Elmira; son, William G. (Tina) Krause of Elmira; grandchildren, Edward, James, Andrew, Beth, Joe (Maria), Rebecca, Matthew, Michele; great-grandchildren; Brittany, Michelle, Justin; and one niece, Patricia Pickering. Bill is predeceased by his sister, Edna Pickering. Bill worked for Sears, for over 25 years. Prior to working there, he enjoyed farming. He loved his family and his grandchildren; gardening occupied most of his quiet time at home. Providing for his family was his priority. MERTZ Elberta Holt Beloved sister, aunt, and friend Age 93, of Elmira, NY, passed away on Friday, November 28th, 2003, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Elberta was born in Westfield, PA, on November 5th, 1910, the daughter of the late James G. and Clara George Holt. She was the loving wife of the late Donald S. Mertz, whom she dearly missed. Elberta was a 1932 graduate of the Arnot School of Nursing, and was a practicing Registered Nurse for over 60 years. All her adult life was helping others with a heart of nursing care. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, member of the Holy Trinity SG (Sewing Group) and very active in the Home Bureau. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Hartley of Osceola, PA; nephews, Tom (Mary Ann) Hartley of Murfreesboro, TN, Donald (Linda) Mudge of McKenzie, TN; nieces, Joan (John) Fitch of McGraw, NY, Sharon Mertz Coleman of Conroe, TX; sister-in-law, Florence Mertz of Conroe, TX; several great-nieces and nephews; many special friends, including Ruth Ann Clark and Joyce Grose, both of Elmira, NY. Elberta was predeceased by her husband, Donald S. Mertz; and her sister, Geraldine Patterson. SADINSKY Zelda D. Devoted wife, marvelous Mother and grandmother Of 96 Demarest Pkwy., Elmira, N.Y. died on Monday morning December 1, 2003. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at Congregation Shomray Hadath 1008 W. Water St. Elmira on Wednesday December 3 at 11am. Rabbi Rachel Smookler officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin St. Cemetery Elmira. Zelda is survived by her loving and devoted husband Morton K. Sadinsky; daughter and son-in-law Rebecca Sadinsky and Christopher Pfohl of Seattle, Wash.; daughters Deborah Sadinsky of Denver, Colo.; Rachael Sadinsky of Lexington, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law Ruth Sadinsky Caso and David Caso of Albany, N.Y.; son M. David Sadinsky of Minneapolis, Minn. Grandchildren, Robin and Emma Sadinsky, Sam and Ben Caso. Sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Martin Baron of Roslyn, N.Y. Zelda was a member of Congregation Shomray Hadath and its Sisterhood, American Association of University Women, and a graduate of Elmira College. She was a volunteer Docent at the Corning Museum of Glass and also a Docent at the Arnot Art Museum. SCHAEFFER Rita Leona (Culhane) Age 86, of Springfield Township, Columbia Crossroads, PA, passed away early Monday morning, December 1, 2003, at her home with her loving husband of 53 years by her side. She was born April 23, 1917 in Rochester, NY, a daughter of the late John Daniel and Marie Ellen (Fahy) Culhane. Rita was very devoted to her husband, Bob, and enjoyed taking trips with him. She also enjoyed making things in ceramic. Rita is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Schaeffer, at home; sisters, Ruth Palmgreen and Eileen Pier, both of Rochester, NY; a brother-in-law, John (Lois) Schaeffer of Florida; a sister-in-law, Jean Bradley of Rochester, NY; and many nieces and nephews from the Rochester area. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by a brother, William Culhane, on September 29, 1952; and two sisters-in-law, Helen and Betty. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 4, 2003, from 12 to 1 p.m. at the Gerald W. Vickery Jr. Funeral Home, Inc., 110 W. Main St., Troy, PA. SMITH Robert Lee Age 62, of Binghamton, NY, formerly of Horseheads, NY, passed away Friday evening, November 28, 2003. He was predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Dorothy Smith. He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Lona and Mark Smith, Susquehanna, PA, Julianne and Wayne Birtch, Conklin, NY, Elizabeth Barrett, Stephanie and Kevin Daniels, all of FL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Scarlett Rai, AZ, Micky Smith, Horseheads, NY; 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; his loving companion and best friend, Mary L. LaForge, Binghamton, NY; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and William Fuller, FL, Cynthia and Michael Sullivan, Horseheads, NY, Suzanne and John Brennan, CO, Suzette Davidson, VA; a brother and sister-in-law, Oliver R. and Della Smith, WY; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Vestal, NY. He had served in the U.S. Navy. Funeral services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, NY, Wednesday at 7 p.m. Brother Edward Pettengill will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 p.m. until time of services.

UPDIKE Lynn Devoted husband, father and grandfather Age 94, of Gillett, PA, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 29, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie Congdon Updike; sons, Duane and Linda Updike of Burdett, NY, LaVere and Louise Updike of Gillett, PA, Marshall and Janice Updike of Big Flats, NY, Grover and Sandy Updike of Tucson, AZ; nine grandchildren; three step grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Glenn and Francis Updike; several nieces and nephews. Lynn was a lifetime farmer and was retired from the PA DOT. He enjoyed playing harmonica and guitar. Lynn faithfully served his church and was a longtime member of the Coryland Church. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, on Wednesday, December 3, 2003, from 2 to 4 p.m. with funeral and committal service there at 4 p.m. Revs. Charles Root and Jonathan Johnson will officiate. WAGNER Barbara J . (Marsh) Age 73 of 10 Pine Circle Horseheads, NY passed away on Sunday November 30, 2003. Barbara was born August 2, 1930 in Olean, NY, the daughter of James and Inez Cornelius Marsh. She married her husband, Clinton D. Wagner, on July 11, 1953 and they recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on July 11, 2003. Barbara was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Horseheads where she had been an active member for many years serving her church in the church nursery and with The Beginners' Church Program. Mrs. Wagner was predeceased by her father James Marsh and her sister Ila Lees. Barbara is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 50 years Clinton D. Wagner; daughter and son-in-law: Patricia & Michael Robertson of Huntland, TN; sons: James Wagner of Niagara Falls, NY and David Wagner of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren: Karrie Wagner, Kimberly Robertson, Julie Robertson, and Daniel Robertson; mother: Inez Marsh; sister: JoAnn Brown; brothers: Robert David and Cort Marsh; mother-in-law: Edna Mae Wagner; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. WESTLAKE Reginald L. Age 78, of Millerton, PA, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 29, 2003, at HCR Manor Care, Williamsport, PA. He is survived by his sisters; Janette Brown of Millerton, PA, and Alice Stowell of Elmira, NY, brother; Robert Westlake of Millerton, PA. Also survived by his children; James Bruce Westlake of Newport News, VA, Susan Gilbert of Tioga, PA, Richard Westlake of Millerton, PA, Betty Westlake-Reist of Williamsport, PA, Roberta Jones of Tioga, PA, David Westlake of Elmira, NY; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Reginald was a member of the Millerton United Methodist Church, Millerton, PA, a retired Trust Department employee of Chemung Canal Trust Company, Elmira, NY and in his spare time he enjoyed making candy for family and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 11:00 AM in the Millerton United Methodist Church, Millerton PA. Those wishing may make memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601-7632. Arrangements by Olthof Funeral Home, Inc.
