Funeral services were held Monday (Jan. 21) from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Eden for Woodrow E. Nellis, 87, of Eden, who died Thursday, January 17, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Young Nellis; daughters, Gail (Daniel) Agle and Sandra (Kenneth) Franz; sister, Elaine Sturgeon; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Stella Wendt and brothers, Ray, Glenn and John Nellis.
Mr. Nellis was a retired millworker for Agway in Buffalo and was a veteran of World War II.
Memorials may be made to the Eden Emergency Squad.
Burial was at St. Paul’s Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Laing Funeral Home.
Paul Gannon
Funeral services were held Wednesday (Jan. 16) from St. Mary of the Lake Church for Paul J. “Midge” Gannon of Hamburg, who died Sunday, January 13, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Helen T. Kwiatkowski Gannon; daughter, Patricia (Michael) Lay and son, William Gannon.
Mr. Gannon was a lifetime member and past president of the Hamburg Rod & Gun Club.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary of the Lake Building Fund, 4737 Lakeshore Rd, Hamburg, NY 14075.
Arrangements were made through the Colonial Memorial Chapels.
Mary Szymel
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday (Jan. 10) from Holy Spirit Church for Mary Jarecki Szymel of Angola and formerly of Cheektowaga, who died Monday, January 7, 2002.
Wife of the late Theodore A. Szymel, she is survived by her daughters, Barbara (John) Lonien and Janet (Dwayne) Morosey; sister, Helen Reilly; brothers, John and Walter Jarecki; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister, Charlotte Rooney.
Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.
William Stickney
Funeral services were held Saturday (Jan. 19) from Laing Funeral Home for William R. Stickney, 87, of Eden and formerly of North Collins, who died Wednesday, January 16, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Mona Moore Stickney; son, Robert (Barbara) Stickney and two grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Webster.
Mr. Stickney was a graduate of North Collins High School and played on the North Collins town baseball team. He worked at the Bank of Eden before starting a 41-year career in the home hearting oil business. He retired in 1979 as president of Page Harms Oil Company in Eden. He was a former member of the Eden Bowling League and was a member of the Dayton Farmers Sportsmen’s Preserve.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Foundation.
Burial will be at Eden Evergreen Cemetery.
Russell Gardner Sr.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Jan. 22) from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home for Russell Gardner Sr., 75, of Blasdell, who died Sunday, January 20, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Harmon Gardner; sons, Russell (Mary Lou) Gardner Jr. and Scott (Lory) Gardner; daughter, Jean (James) Tuholski; brothers, George (Ellen) and David (Karen) Gardner; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gardner was a retired foreman for Bethlehem Steel. He was a World War II veteran and was a member of the Hamburg American Legion Post No. 527. He was an exempt member of the Blasdell Volunteer Fire Company.
Burial was at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery.
Paul Kleinfelder
Word has been received about the death of Paul G. Kleinfelder, 91, of Toronto, Canada and formerly of Hamburg, who died Saturday, January 19, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Riefler Kleinfelder; daughter, Beverly Hinton; son, Robert Kleinfelder; stepson, George E. Riefler; stepdaughter, Shirley R. Mast; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Clara Bartlett Kleinfelder.
Mr. Kleinfelder was born in Hamburg and attended Hamburg High School until 1927 when his family moved to Toronto. He was an active member of St. James United Church of Christ, the Hamburg chapter of AARP and Hamburg Grange No. 1293.
Lambert Graham
Funeral services were held Monday (Jan. 21) from St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church for Lambert “Bert” Graham, 80, of Savannah, Georgia and formerly of North Collins and Hamburg, who died Thursday, January 17, 2002.
Husband of the late Margaret Hughes Graham, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Helen H. Yeckley; nephews, a niece and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Memorials may be made to Benedictine Military School, Social Apostulate or St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
Burial was in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Georgia and arrangements were made through the Fox & Weeks Funeral Home in Savannah, Georgia.
Faith Steffen
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family for Faith Helen Francis Steffen, 59, of Hamburg, who died Wednesday, January 9, 2002.
Wife of the late Norman R. Steffen, she is survived by her sister, Grace (Wilfred) Boyler and brother, Manley B. Francis; friend, Norman Hunt; cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Floyd D. (Joanne) Francis.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were made through the Froehley-Dengler Funeral Home.
Michael Henry
Funeral services were held Monday (Jan. 21) from Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home for Michael G. Henry, 46, of Hamburg, who died Thursday, January 17, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Laura L. Gonser Henry; sons, Michael Jr. and Shawn Henry; daughter, Bridgett Henry; parents, George and Marilyn Wiesmore Henry; brothers, Keith (Tammy) and Timothy (Kathleen) Henry; sisters, Lynn (Michael) Gonser, Mary Beth (Greg) Brown and Patricia (David) Cooper and several family members.
Mr. Henry was employed as a salesman for Universal Joint Sales in Buffalo.
Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery.
