Word has been received of the death of Evelyn Farber Morgan, 94, of Oakland, California and formerly of Hamburg, who died Wednesday, March 20, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Brenn Joel Morgan; sons, Nelson and Robert Morgan; sisters, Arlene Ross and Ruth Wood; brother, Darwin Farber; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Morgan was a former microbiology teacher at Hamburg High School from 1957 until 1970. She also published her own textbook in microbiology for high school students and stayed in touch with several of her students after her retirement. Following her retirement, she stayed active as a volunteer in local schools, giving science demonstrations and lessons.

Ed Zawierucha, past president of Scranton Volunteer Fire Company, dies at the age of 69
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday (June 11) from S.S. Peter & Paul Church for Edward J. Zawierucha, 69, of Hamburg, who died Friday, June 7, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Bitterman Zawierucha; sons, David (Deborah), Scott (Marlene), and Glen (Michelle) Zawierucha; daughters, Elaine (William) Hayden and Trang (Trong) Mia; sister, Rita Wrobel; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mr. Zawierucha was a life member and past president of the Scranton Volunteer Fire Company.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo.
Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.
Thomas LeRoy
Funeral services were held Saturday (July 13) from St. Mary of the Lake Church for Thomas E. LeRoy, 74, formerly of Hamburg, who died Wednesday, July 10, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Albee LeRoy; daughter, Patricia M. (Richard) LeRoy-Rojek; brother, George (Edna) LeRoy; sister, Helen (late Earl) Boll; nieces and nephews and other family members.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Doris (late Edward) Owens and Rita LeRoy; and brothers, Nelson (Polly) and Martin (Elsie) LeRoy.
Mr. LeRoy was employed as a material handling engineer at the Ford Stamping Plant. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Baker Council No. 2243, American Legion Matthew Glab Post No. 1477, VFW Hamburg Township Post No. 1419, the 25th Infantry Division Association and the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Senior Citizens.
Burial was at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery and arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.
John Pisarski
Funeral services were held Thursday (June 27) from the First Congregational United Church of Christ for John P. Pisarski, 44, of Angola, who died Saturday, June 22, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Ehmke Pisarski; sons, Matthew, Gregory and Adam Pisarski; father, Kazimiera Pisarski; brothers, Joseph (Carole), Henry (Paulette) and James (Colette) Pisarski; and sister, Helen Pisarski.
He was predeceased by his mother, Jan Pisarski.
Mr. Pisarski was employed as a quality control inspector at the Ford Stamping Plant and was a member of the UAW Local No. 897.
Burial was at Forest Avenue Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Heimburg-Addision Funeral Home.
Delores Bragg
Funeral services were held Saturday (July 13) from Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home for Delores A. Mahan Bragg, 70, of Hamburg, who died Friday, July 12, 2002.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson A. Bragg; daughter, Brenda (Bill) Pries; son, Dennis Bragg; and three grandchildren.
Helen Merkens
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 17 at 11 a.m. from the Hamburg United Methodist Church for Helen Merkens, 88, of Michigan and formerly of Hamburg, who died Wednesday, June 5, 2002.
Wife of the late John K. Merkens, she is survived by her daughters, Barbara Jo and Martha (John) Martin; son, Mark (Louise) Merkens; and six grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Paul (Carolyn) Merkens.
Mrs. Merkens worked in the Hamburg High School guidance office for several years and was a member of the Hamburg United Methodist Church, where she served as president of the United Methodist Women.

Julius Romyak
Funeral services were held Wednesday (July 17) from Our Lady of Grace Church for Julius J. Romyak, 99, of Hamburg, who died Saturday, July 13, 2002.
He is survived by nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, John, Andrew (late Mary) and Albert (late Helen) Romyak; and sister, Mary (late Stephen) Pericak.
Mr. Romyak was employed as a truck driver for Kirst Trucking Company.
Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery and arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.
Floyd Nyhart
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (July 15) from S.S. Peter & Paul Church for Floyd D. Nyhart, 91, of Hamburg, who died Friday, July 12, 2002.
Husband of the late Veronica Winter Nyhart, he is survived by his son, David (Patricia) Nyhart; daughter, Diane O’Hearn; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Nyhart was a retired foreman for the Erie County Highway Department. He was a member of AARP.
Burial was at St. Martin’s Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home.
Calvin Miller
A memorial service was held Saturday (July 13) from St. John’s United Church of Christ for Calvin N. Miller, 77, of Eden, who died Sunday, July 7, 2002.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Miller; daughters, Hope (James) Hommerding and Barbara (Randy) Ferris; son, David (Susan) Miller; brothers, Robert, Earl and James (Joanne) Miller; sisters, Constance (William) Newton and Shirley (Leo) Dumont; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Miller was a World War II veteran who served under General Patton’s 3rd Army. A retired employee from Hendrich Construction in Buffalo and Milner Construction of Portland, Oregon, he was a blood donor who donated 32 gallons to be named an aphersis donor.
He was past commander and a life member of the Newell Faulkner Post No. 880 in Eden and past president and charter member of the Eden Emergency Squad/Fire Department. He was also past president of St. John’s United Church of Christ Conistary, a member of The Fortune Lodge Local No. 9 of North Collins and was once named the Town of Eden’s Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.
Memorials may be made to the Church Endowment Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
