Funeral services were held Thursday (Aug. 8) from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Angola for Pearl M. Sanders, 101, of Angola, who died Saturday, August 3, 2002.
Wife of the late William Sanders, she is survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sons, Donald (Audrey) Sanders and Harold (Eva) Perrin; five brothers and one sister.
Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements were made through the Heimburg-Addison Funeral Home.
Evelyn Smith
Funeral services were held Thursday (Aug. 22) from Elmlawn Cemetery for Evelyn R. Smith, 96, of Hamburg and formerly of Buffalo, who died Tuesday, August 20, 2002.
Wife of the late Frederick J. Smith, she is survived by her son, James (Patricia) Smith; one grandchild, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith was a retired employee for W.T. Grant Department stores.
Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Rev. Msgr. Alton LaRusch
Rev. Msgr. Alton LaRusch, pastor emeritus of St. Mary of the Lake Church, dies at age 88
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday (March 25) from SS. Peter & Paul Church in Hamburg for Rev. Monsignor Alton J. LaRusch, 88, of Hamburg, who died Saturday, March 22, 2003.
He is survived by his sister, Eugenia B. “Jean” LaRusch.
Msgr. LaRusch was born in Patchin and later attended Canisius High School and Canisius College, graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in 1937. He later attended Christ the King Seminary at St. Bonaventure University, earning a master’s degree in 1940. He was ordained by Bishop John A. Duffy in 1941 in St. Joseph’s New Cathedral in Buffalo.
He served a variety of posts at parishes throughout New York including 13 years as assistant pastor of Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna. He later served as pastor of churches in Belfast, Attica and Buffalo before being appointed pastor of St. Mary of the Lake Church in 1974, where he served until retiring in 1990. After retirement he continued to offer daily Mass at SS. Peter & Paul Church in Hamburg.
He was affiliated with the Diocesan Marriage Tribunal for over 40 years and received an Apostolic Blessing from Pope Paul VI for that work.
Msgr. LaRusch was a member of the Hamburg Knights of Columbus Council No. 2220, Monsignor Leo Toomey Assembly Fourth Degree, Knights of St. John and Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. He also was an honorary life member of the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Department.
Burial will be at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home.
Sister Janine Doda
Sister Janine Doda, member of Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph for 70 years, dies at 87
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday (March 20) from Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel in Hamburg for Sister Janine Doda, FSSJ, 87, of Hamburg, who died Sunday, March 16, 2003.
She is survived by her sisters, Sister Helen Frances, FSSJ and Hedwig Gumoski; and nieces and nephews.
Sister Janine was born in Lynn, Massachusetts and joined the congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph in 1929. She became a postulant in 1933 and professed her final vows in 1937. She is a graduate of both Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan and St. Bonaventure University.
She was involved in the field of education as a teacher, principal and librarian for 59 years at a number of different schools in Michigan, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Locally, she was principal at South Towns Catholic in North Evans and also was a teacher and assistant principal at Immaculata Academy. She also served as Director of Religious Education at St. Joseph Parish in North Tonawanda and as Coordinator of Education for the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph.
Burial was at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
Joyce LoVallo
Funeral services were held Thursday (March 20) from St. Francis of Assisi Church for Joyce Smith LoVallo, 66, of Hamburg, who died Saturday, March 15, 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Dominic LoVallo; sons, Michael, Dominic (Patricia), Edward, Vito and Daniel LoVallo; daughters, Ona (Robert) Starr and Joyce (Gregory) Jones; brother, Edward (late Marie) Smith; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, nieces and nephews and other family members.
She was predeceased by her brother, Robert (Patricia) Smith; and sisters, Dorothy Post and Eileen Smith.
Mrs. LoVallo was employed as a cafeteria supervisor for the Buffalo City Schools.
Burial was at Mount Calvary Cemetery and arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.
Dorothy Allen
Funeral services were held Monday (March 24) from Grace Lutheran Church for Dorothy M. Allen of Hamburg, who died Friday, March 21, 2003.
Wife of the late Richard J. Allen, she is survived by her son, James P. (Deborah) Allen; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Richard (Harriett) and Theodore (Florence) Will.

Walter Watson
Funeral services were held Monday (March 24) from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home for Walter T. Watson, 71, of Lake View, who died Friday, March 21, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Brogan Watson; son, Kihm R. (Kathleen R.) Watson; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and other family members.
He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth (Margaret) Watson; and sister, Geraldine (Stanley) Brown.
Mr. Watson was employed as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local No. 9. He was also a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, rank PFC.

Burial will be at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery.
Florence Caboot
Funeral services were held Monday (March 24) from St. Francis of Assisi Church for Florence Lichon Caboot of Blasdell, who died Friday, March 21, 2003.
Wife of the late John Caboot, she is survived by her son, Dennis (Anita) Caboot; daughters, Janet (Larry) Long and Dawn (Mark) Wojcik; brother, Terry (Tomasic) Caboot; sisters, Fran (Kevin) Walker, Joyce (Jerry) Polakiewicz and Kathy Lichon; fiance, Carlos “Ned” Massari; four grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Caboot was a member of the Women’s Democratic Club and was a cashier at Ames department store.
Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery and arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.
