A funeral mass was held Monday (Aug. 4) from Our Mother of Good Counsel Church in Blasdell for William F. Elliott Jr., 4, of Blasdell, who died Wednesday, July 30, 2003.
He is survived by his parents, William F. Elliott Sr. and Jolene M. Walters Elliott; sister, Genevieve L. Elliott; brother, Kenneth Elliott; grandparents, Kathleen (Ronald) Clark and Edward A. Elliott Sr. and Richard M. (Carol) Walters; great-grandmother, Jane Kimmick; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Heimburg-Addison Funeral Home.
Clifton Torsell
Private graveside services will be held at the Brant Cemetery at the convenience of the family for Clifton C. Torsell of Derby and Bradenton, Florida, who died Saturday, August 9, 2003.
Husband of the late Myrtle Beuzenburg Torsell, he is survived by his sons, Wayne (Ann) and Lonny (Lulu) Torsell; sister, Charlotte “Audrey” Snyder; and grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond C. and Norman H. Torsell.
Mr. Torsell was a member of Local No. 22 Plumbers & Steam Fitters.
Arrangements were made through the Heimburg-Addison Funeral Home.
Patricia Snyder
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (Aug. 11) from St. Anthony’s Church for Patricia A. Gaul Snyder, 74, of Angola, who died Friday, August 8, 2003.
Wife of the late James H. Snyder, she is survived by her sons, Daniel (Karen) and James (late Patty) Snyder; brothers, John and James Gaul; one grandchild and other family members.
Mrs. Snyder was a member of St. Anthony’s Ladies Guild.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Buffalo.
Burial was at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Farnham and arrangements were made through the Heimburg-Addison Funeral Home.
Donald Clear
Funeral services were held Tuesday (Aug. 12) from the First Baptist Church of Evans for Donald William Clear, 33, of Silver Creek, who died Friday, August 8, 2003.
He is survived by his father, Gary (Doris Weegie) Clear; brothers, James (Lynn) and Gary (Arica) Clear; sister, Kelly Olsen (Bill) Clear; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Clear was a graduate of Alfred State and was an employee of General Mills.
Memorials may be made to the Farnham Fire Department.
Burial was at Brant Cemetery and arrangements were made through the Heimburg-Addison Funeral Home.
Richard Fitzgerald
Funeral services were held Monday (Aug. 11) from the Heimburg-Addison Funeral Home for Richard Fitzgerald, 79, of Angola, who died Friday, August 1, 2003.
He is survived by his wife, Joan C.M. (Merry) Fitzgerald; sons, Michael (Linda), Steven P. (Tom) and Richard W. Fitzgerald; daughters, Mary Ann C. (Joe), Cynthia L. (Al), Deborah C. (Jim Snyder) Hyaner and Karen (Karen) Fitzgerald; brothers, Gerald (Delores) and Robert (Faye) Fitzgerald; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Doering and Carol Solinski.
Mr. Fitzgerald was a United States Army veteran who served during World War II.
Burial was at Forest Avenue Cemetery.
Carol Meland
Private funeral services were recently held for Carol J. Meland, 79, of Medina and formerly of Hamburg, who died Saturday, August 2, 2003.
Mrs. Meland was born in Hamburg and was a member of the Lincoln Post No. 1483 VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of the Medina Senior Citizens. She also taught rug-hooking classes.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans County or Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Arrangements were made through the Cooper Funeral Home in Medina.
Edward Weiss
Funeral services were held Saturday (Aug. 9) from St. Francis of Assisi Church for Edward J. Weiss, 91, of Hamburg, who died Sunday, August 3, 2003.
He is survived by his daughters, Patricia F. (Ronald) Kinn and Sandra (James) Swanson; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Weiss was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was the original owner of Hoak’s On The Lake restaurant until 1948. He was also the owner of the Sturgeon Point Marina from 1950 until 1982.
Arrangements were made through the Schiavone Funeral Home.
Sister Helen Doda
Sister Helen Doda, served religiously for 69 years, dies at the age of 86
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday (Aug. 8) from Immaculate Conception Convent Chapel in Hamburg for Sister Helen Frances Doda, FSSJ, 86, who died Wednesday, August 6, 2003.
She is survived by her sister, Hedwig Gumoski; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Sister Janine, FSSJ and Martha Chludzinski.
The former Helen Doda was born in Lynn, Massachusetts. She entered the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph as an aspirant from St. Michael Parish in Lynn, MA on August 8, 1930. She became a postulant on September 4, 1934 and professed her final vows on July 17, 1939.
She received a B.S. in Pharmacy from St. John University in Jamaica and an M.S. in Pharmacy from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She began her ministry as a teacher in Baltimore, Maryland and later worked for 45 years in the health ministry in different capacities in Brooklyn and Cheektowaga. She retired in 1997 to Immaculate Conception Convent in Hamburg and joined the community of Sisters in Colette Hilbert Health Center in 1998.
Burial was at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
