Donovan, Rev. Vincent C.
Springfield, KY., Feb. 7 - A Mass of Christian Burial was held here last week for the Rev. Vincent C. Donovan, 85, a Buffalo native and brother of the late Gen. William (Wild Bill) Donovan.
Father Donovan, a Dominican priest, died Sunday (Jan. 30, 1977) in a nursing home in Lebanon, KY. Until a few months ago, he was a the Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Clarence.
He appeared in good health and was recovering from broken ribs suffered in a fall.
Father Donovan was educated at Nardin Academy, St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute and St. Bernard's Seminary in Rochester.
He was ordained in 1917, and held various teaching posts in Rhode Island, Ohio, and at the Dominican University in Rome, Italy.
He was the younger brother of Ge. Donovan, a member of the famous "Fighting 69th" in World War I and founder of the Office of Strategic Services, forerunner of the CIA, during World War II.
Father Donovan's life work was in teaching, especially the Gregorian Chant, the official music of the Catholic Church.
He was also the founder and president of the Catholic Thought Association of America. He was a proponent of the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas and held that St. Thomas' teachings held an eternal relevance to current times.
Father Donovan grew up in a big, high stooped brick house at 74 Michigan St. in Buffalo's First Ward.
He is survived by two nephews, David of Berryville, VA>, and Robert H. Donovan of Yonkers.
Carnevale, Daniel K., Teacher
Funeral services were held Saturday for Daniel K. Carnevale, a member of the "Orchard Park Eight" jailed in 1976 for leading a teacher's strike.
Mr. Carnevale, 56, of Kenmore, died Thursday (Feb. 3, 1977) in Mercy Hospital of complications resulting from surgery.
An English teacher in Orchard Park for 22 years, Mr. Carnevale was actively involved in union affairs. He was jailed for a week last year for his part in leading the 1975 Orchard Park teacher's strike.
His wife, the former Catherine McCarthy, died during that strike. They leave a son, John, who is 13.
Born in Buffalo, Mr. Carnevale graduated from Grover Cleveland High School and the former University of Buffalo. He served in the Air Force during World War II and later taught in the Newfane schools before going to the Orchard Park system.
Besides his son, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Rose Carnevale; two brothers, Joseph M. and Michael J. Carnevale, and a sister, Mrs. Santo Marciano.
Wiles, Charles E.
Charles E. Wiles, 83, of Buffalo, a retired Chrevrolet office worker and church volunteer, died Sunday (Feb. 6,1977) in his son's Grand island home, after a long illness.
Born in Olean, Mr. Wiles was brought to Buffalo in 1907 and completed school here. He attended the former Leitz Technical Institute here.
For years he operated a food delivery business in Buffalo and it's suburbs. Later he managed Danahy-Faxon food stores before joining the payroll staff of the Chevrolet plant on Delavan Ave.
Mr. Wiles was a six-term president of St. Martin's Holy Name Society and belonged to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Catholic Endeavor, Catholic Charities, Friendly Visitors, and the Ushers Society of the Columban League.
He was a committeeman of the United Auto Workers Local 424.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mae A. Murphy; a son Dr. Charles E. Wiles, Grand Island; a daughter, Mrs. John J. Hayes, Hamburg; two sisters, Mrs. Paul Klem, Struthers, O,; and Mrs. Thomas J. Sullivan; 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Prayers in the Leo-Sauer-Lynett Funeral Home, 1933 Kensington Ave., at 89:30 AM Wednesday will precede a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Christ the King Church, 30 Lamarck Dr., Snyder. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Lackawanna.

Suddenly, Feb 1,1977, wife of William F. Schaefer; mother of Eugene J, of Pittsburgh, PA.; daughter of Henriette H. Schultz and the late William P. Ginther.
