Member of St. Francis Parish
Rosaire (nee Wickenhiser) Liebeck, age 97, of Tonawanda, died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 5, 2007. Born in Lackawanna, she was the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Gertrude (nee Hawthorne) Wickenhiser and had been a resident of East Amherst before moving to Tonawanda about 30 years ago. Mrs. Liebeck operated Liebeck’s Poultry in East Amherst with her late husband, Carl, before they retired. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Tonawanda, had been a volunteer at DeGraff Skilled Nursing Facility, and a member of the Kenilworth Fire Company Auxiliary. She was the wife of the late Carl W. Liebeck, who died in 1992, and sister of the late Leo and Gilbert Wickenhiser, Eleanor Hoffman, Theresa Fournier, and Marcelline Lindner.
She is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 3-7 PM on Friday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda; the Rev. Michael Uebler officiating. Friends invited. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Clarence. If desired, memorials to St. Francis Church, 73 Adam Street, /tonawanda, NY 14150, or Father Baker’s Children’s Home are preferred.
Ira “Ken” Brown
Marine Corps Veteran
Ira “Ken” Brown, age 65, of Tonawanda, died unexpectedly, Saturday, September 8, 2007. Born in Smoke Run, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Ira S. Brown and Catherine (nee Hurtack) Ansley. A 1960 graduate of Kenmore West High School, he had been a resident of Tonawanda for more than 40 years. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War, and was employed at Spaulding Fibre until the plant closed.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Davis of Bentonville, Arkansas; a brother, James (Barbara) Colton of Gatineau, Quebec; and several nieces and nephews.
There is no visitation. Services were cared for privately at the convenience of the family. Interment with military honors at Bath National Cemetery, Bath, New York. Arrangements were entrusted to the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda.
Susan Burdo
Nurse at Women’s and Children’s Hospital
Susan M. Burdo, age 49, of North Tonawanda, died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of Julia (nee Stawitzky) Burdo and the late Otis G. Burdo, and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas. She was a graduate of St. Francis Parochial School, Tonawanda High School and Daemen School of Nursing. Susan was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and had been a Registered Nurse at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo for 28 years before becoming ill.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three brothers, Thomas Burdo of Tonawanda, Timothy (Laurel) Burdo of Pottersville, New Jersey, and Jeffrey (Patricia) Burdo of Navarre, Florida. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
There is no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 10 AM Saturday, September 15, at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240, are preferred by the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda.
Stephen I. Sarafin
Retired from DuPont in 1981
Stephen I. Sarafin, age 88, of Tonawanda, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at his residence, after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Ignatius and Maria (nee Glodek) Sarafin and was an Army Veteran of WWII. A resident of Tonawanda since 1965, he was employed at the E.I. DuPont Plant in the Town of Tonawanda, until retiring in 1981. Mr. Sarafin was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, the American Legion Post No. 1504 in Belfast, New York, and the Tonawanda Senior Citizens.
He is survived by his wife of more than 66 years, Estelle (nee Kiebzak) Sarafin; four sons, James (Michelle) Sarafin of Indian Trail, North Carolina, Paul (Sheila) Sarafin of Kenmore, Stephen (Christine) Sarafin of Camden, South Carolina, and Stacey (Mary Lynn) Sarafin of Tonawanda; and a brother, Edward Sarafin of Amherst. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Lorenzo “Larry” Pangrazi, age 82, of North Tonawanda, died Thursday, September 20, 2007, at his residence, after a long illness. Born in Freeport, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Artemio and Edith (nee Treddle) Pangrazi and was a Navy Veteran of WWII. A resident of the Tonawandas for more than 45 years, he was employed at Ashland Oil until retiring in 1982, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 1411 in North Tonawanda.
He is survived by his wife, Clara (nee Snyder) Pangrazi; two sons, Lawrence (Debra) Pangrazi of North Tonawanda, and Richard (Bonnilyn) Pangrazi of Amherst; three daughters, Patty Biddle-Pangrazi of North Tonawanda, Darlene Oliver of Buffalo, and Barbara (David) Vogt of North Tonawanda; and a sister, Angelina Wetter of Freeport, PA. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1-4 PM on Sunday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where a memorial service will be held at 4 PM Sunday. Friends invited. Claudia M. Brown
Claudia (nee Miller) Brown, age 96, of Kenmore, formerly of Buffalo, died Monday, September 24, 2007, at Northgate Health Care Facility, after a long illness. Born in Ridgeway, Ontario, she was the daughter of the late Martin and Edna (nee Baker) Miller. She was the wife of the late Robert K. Brown, who died October 12, 1977, and sister of the late Orpha Miller and Warden Miller.
She is survived by three nieces, Sandra (Anthony) Valenti of North Tonawanda, Claudia J. Miller of North Tonawanda, and Kathleen (Luigi) Marrone of St. Caharines, Ontario. Also surviving are a great niece and nephew, a great, great nephew, and two great, great nieces.

Ruth B. Kottke
Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother
Ruth (nee Mayer) Kottke, age 83, of Tonawanda, died Thursday, September 27, 2007 at her residence, after a brief illness. Born in Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Barbara (nee Keller) Mayer and was a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. Mrs. Kottke had been employed in the office at Bell Aerospace in Wheatfield until retiring in July 1984, and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. Ruth was the devoted wife and best friend of her husband, LeRoy, and enjoyed spending time and caring for all her family. She was the mother of the late Eileen Lach, who died in 1972, and sister of the late Robert Mayer.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, LeRoy C. Kottke; two sons, Douglas Kottke and Gary Kottke; and five grandchildren, Michelle (Joe) Valentino, Aaron (MeiLing) Kottke, Kathryn Kottke, Zachary Kottke, and Sarah Kottke. Also surviving are two great-grandsons, Chaz and Josh Valentino, and many nieces and nephews.
