Gerard Gerken
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (July 16) from SS. Peter & Paul Church for Gerard J. Gerken, 45, of Hamburg, who died Friday, July 13, 2001.
He is survived by his mother, Florence “Peg” Gerken; brothers, Joseph (Eileen), J. Patrick (Kathleen) and Thomas (Pamela) Gerken; sister, Mary Anne (Samuel) Burr; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Gerken.

Mark Gottfried
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 21 at 6 p.m. from St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ for Mark Charles Gottfried, 23, of Santa Monica, CA and formerly of Hamburg, who died Monday, June 25, 2001.
He is survived by his parents, Danny and Marie Gottfried; brother, Corey Gottfried; friend, Kim Carney; grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mark was a member of the Hamburg Central High School Class of 1996.

Edward Pluta
Funeral services were held Wednesday (July 18) from SS. Peter & Paul Church for Edward H. Pluta, 69, of Hamburg, who died Sunday, July 15, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Fuller Pluta; son, James (Sherrie) Pluta; daughters, Theresa and Karen Pluta; sisters, Olga Sitarski, Regina (Edward) Bartkowski, Victoria (Edward) Musielak and Dolores Pluta; brother, Theodore Pluta; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Pluta was employed as a forklift operator for Bethlehem Steel and served in the U.S. Navy.

Robert Friant, active community volunteer, dies at the age of 74
A memorial service was held Tuesday (July 24) from the Hamburg Presbyterian Church for Robert L. Friant Jr., 74, of Hamburg, who died Friday, July 20, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Clark Friant;
daughters, Lynda (Si) Boettner, Leslie (Paul) Kraft and Tricia Friant; sister, Barbara Jenkins; brother, Donald Kraft; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Friant was a retired sales executive of AKZO Inc. His community services include past president of the Hamburg Counseling Center, past president of Hamburg Rotary Club, architect of the Stewards of the Creek project (Eighteenmile Creek) and past president of Willow Bend Club.
Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Marie Fuhrmann
Funeral services were held Wednesday (July 25) from All Saints Lutheran Church for Marie D. Johnson Fuhrmann, 79, of Lake View, who died Monday, July 23, 2001.
Wife of the late Anthony Fuhrmann and Charles Faude, she is survived by her son, Charles (Lucille) Faude; and two grandchildren.

Mabel Cook
Funeral services were held Friday (July 20) from the Froehley-Dengler Funeral Home for Mabel M. Cook, 94, of Hamburg, who died Tuesday, July 17, 2001.
Wife of the late Carl J. Cook, she is survived by her sons, Lyman C. (Jean) and Roy G. (Carol) Cook; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cook was a member of the First Evangelical Church of Blasdell and Eastern Star Beulah Chapter No. 176.
Burial was at Elmlawn Cemetery.
Robert Schultz
A memorial service was recently held at St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ for Robert A. Schultz of Hamburg, who died Monday, July 9, 2001.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Schultz; sons, Norman and Bruce Schultz; daughter, Sandy Schultz; five grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other family members.
Mr. Schultz was employed as an electrician and was a member of IBEW Local No. 41. He was a World War II veteran and was a member of the West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo. He also volunteered as a Boy Scout leader and was an active member of St. James United Church of Christ and St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ. He was a member of Fraternal Lodge No. 625 of Hamburg and Ismailia Shrine Temple AAONMS.
