Lewis James Sawicki, 54, of Buffalo, New York died peacefully Sunday July 30, 2006 in his Buffalo home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on January 15, 1952 to Lewis and Phyllis (Caggiano) Sawicki. A native of Niagara Falls he was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School class of 1969, Butera Commercial School of Art in Boston, MA in 1971, the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1975 and attended University of Buffalo Law School .On May 16, 1992 He married the former Connie Brignole in the Church of St. Joseph in New York City.
Lew was a skilled artisan. Over the years he worked as a sign painter with his uncle Bob Caggiano at Pine Sign Co. in Niagara Falls. He was also self employed painter and contractor with his father Lew Sawicki at the Parkway Condominiums on Buffalo Avenue. He was the founder and owner of Sawicki Home Improvement Co. and an accomplished stained-glass craftsman..
Mr. Sawicki was a devoted member of Narcotics Anonymous and his home group the Mustard Seed. An active volunteer he volunteered for the University of Buffalo Center for the Arts, and the Better Business Bureau Community Dispute Resolution Center.
He was an avid skier, baseball fan and softball player and a member of the Buffalo Rotisserie League. Lew also enjoyed music, and traveling with his loving wife Connie. His kind, generous, accepting, inspiring and nurturing spirit will live on in all his family, friends and everyone he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Connie (Brignole) Sawicki of Buffalo, NY. his father Lewis Sawicki of Niagara Falls, two sisters; Deborah A. Cutler of Niagara Falls, Donna J. (James P.) Morgan, of Brooklyn, NY., two sisters-in-law; Katherine (Larry) Lustgarten of New York City, Rosemary (Tom) Muscarella of Garden City, LI., three nieces, Kim M. Nalbone of Wilson, NY., Goddaughter Tina M. (William) Schiavitti of Ransomville, NY., Fara Muscarella of LI., one nephew Jonathan Muscarella also of LI. Great nieces and nephews; Amanda and Zackery Nalbone , Billy Schiavitti, Godsons; Mikey Schiavitti and Eliot Reid. nine aunts and uncles; Millie (late Robert) Caggiano, Barbara (Kazmir) Sawicki, all of Niagara Falls, Clara (late Carmen) Caggiano, of North Tonawanda, NY., Stanley Sawicki of Nashville, TN., Edward Sawicki of Las Vegas, NV. Anita DiCara of Jackson Heights, NY., Anthony (Mary) DiCara of LI., Jean (late Leo) DiCara of Chicago, IL., and many cousins. Mr. Sawicki was predeceased by his mother the late Phyllis (Caggiano) Sawicki, and his sister the late Donna Marie Sawicki.

Enjoyed racing and watching NASCAR. Dick worked for Apex Masonry in Amherst, NY for many years. He also enjoyed working on autos and constructions.
