William L. Farmer, age 80, of Tonawanda, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a long illness. Born in Lake Branch, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Wells and Lockie (nee Osbourne) Farmer and had been a resident of the Tonawandas for more than 50 years. Mr. Farmer was a Navy Veteran of WWII and had been employed at Durez Division of Occidental Chemical until retiring in 1984. He was the husband of the late Margaret (nee Lacy) Farmer, who died in 1995.
Mr. Farmer is survived by his daughter, Rosemary (Michael) Spitzer; two grandsons, Richard (Kristi) Crosby and Derek Spitzer; and two sisters, Gertrude Harrison and Captola Wolfe. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Services were cared for privately at the convenience of the family, followed by interment at Acacia Park Cemetery. If desired, memorials to Niagara Hospice, Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094, are preferred by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda.
Ruth N. Alliger
Lifelong Tonawanda Resident
Ruth (nee Webb) Alliger, age 103, of Tonawanda, died Saturday, December 21, 2002, at St. Luke's Presbyterian Nursing Home in Buffalo. Born July 15, 1899, in Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late John and Katherine (nee McDermott) Webb and had been a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. Mrs. Alliger was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She was the wife of the late Frank I. Alliger and mother of the late Frank "Ike" Alliger.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Robert) Zonneville and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1-3 PM Thursday, December 26, at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam & Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where a prayer service will be held at 3 PM Thursday. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to Hospice Buffalo are preferred by the family.
Timothy G. Lavin
Veteran of Vietnam War
Timothy G. Lavin, age 52, of Bath, NY, formerly of Tonawanda, died unexpectedly, Sunday, December 22, 2002 at his residence in Bath. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Jean and Mary (nee Walter) Lavin and was a lifelong resident of Tonawanda before moving to Bath a year ago. An Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Lavin was employed at the Tonawanda Water Department for many years, and then worked at Consolidated Freightways, where he served as a Union Steward. He was married to Cheryl (nee Zitzka) Lavin.
He is also survived by a daughter, Emily (David) Wright; a son, Timothy A. Lavin; five brothers, John (Kathleen) Lavin, Michael (Francene) Lavin, Francis Lavin, Matthew (Rosa) Lavin, and Jean (Lori) Lavin; and three sisters, Sheila Walter Lavin, Mary Lou (Daniel) DelPriore and Elizabeth (Matthew) Pope . Also surviving are a granddaughter, Meadow L. Wright and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM Saturday at St. Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. Friends invited. Florence R. Tuzzi
Volunteered at Studio Arena
Florence (nee Ryter) Tuzzi, age 75, of the Town of Tonawanda, died peacefully, December 27, 2002, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Elsie (nee Schmid) Ryter, and was a resident of the Town of Tonawanda. She was a volunteer usher for 25 years at Studio Arena, and had worked as a nanny in Amherst, before retiring. She was the sister of the late Alice Ferrentino, Hedy Uhl, and Mary Boxler.
She was the beloved mother of Pamela M. Tuzzi, of Manhattan, NY and Paul J. Tuzzi, Jr., of the Town of Tonawanda. She is also survived by three sisters, Elsie Charrette, Dorothy Gabel, and Gretchen Praller; and a brother, Hans Boxler.
There was no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 31, at St. Amelia's R.C. Church, on Eggert Road in the Town of Tonawanda. Friends invited. Arrangements by the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam & Seymour Streets, Tonawanda.
Mary I. Tylwalk
Active at St. Francis Parish
Mary I. Tylwalk, age 84, of Tonawanda, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2002, at the Crestwood Health Care Center. Born on April 6, 1918, in Alfedena, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Emilio and Delfina (nee Brunetti) Passarelli. A member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Mary enjoyed bowling, playing cards, her involvements in the PTA, Catholic Daughters, and Forever Young, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Michael C. Tylwalk, Sr.; a son, Michael C. Tylwalk, Jr.; a daughter, Karen (Richard) Volkmer; and her brother, Mario Passarelli. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Michael (Kelly) Tylwalk III and Sonya (Dennis) Schaff, and five great-grandchildren, Michael IV, Emily, Alexander, Rebecca, and Dennis.

Gerald E. Manth
Very Active with Special Olympics
Gerald E. Manth, age 79, of Williamsville, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Buffalo General Hospital after a long illness. Born in North Tonawanda, he was the son of the late Edward C. and Wilhelmina (nee Proefrock) Manth and had been a resident of Williamsville for more than 35 years. Mr. Manth served in the European Theatre with the Army during WWII. He worked with the 107th Air National Guard in Niagara Falls, and then with Bell Aerospace in Wheatfield, before retiring. He was very active with the Special Olympics in Western New York.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (nee Lundy) Manth; a son, Larry (Julie) Manth; a daughter, Linda M. Manth; a sister, Winifred Werth; and two brothers, Burton (Mary) Manth and Roger (Arlene) Manth. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1-3 PM Sunday (Jan. 5) at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Acacia Park Cemetery. If desired, memorials for the Special Olympics are preferred by the family.
Armando "Vince" Mariani
Active member of St. Francis Parish
Armando "Vince" Mariani, age 75, of Tonawanda, died Monday, January 6, 2003, at Wedgewood Nursing Home in Amherst, after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Rita (nee DeMelis) Mariani and had been a resident of Tonawanda since 1958. A Navy Veteran of WWII, Mr. Mariani was employed at Trico Products in Buffalo, until retiring in 1988. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, where he was a former member of the Parish Council and a Eucharistic minister.
He is survived by his wife, Carmena (nee D'Ubaldo) Mariani; three sons, Philip (Nancy) Mariani, Frank (Bonnie) Mariani, and Albert (Pauline) Mariani; and a brother, Frank (Virginia) Mariani. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Anthony, Katherine, Michael, Matthew, Deanna, Tara, Lindsay, and Janelle; and many nieces and nephews.
