Former member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish
Josephine (nee Miller) Kerwin, age 98, of North Attleboro, MA, formerly of Tonawanda, died Saturday, January 3, 2004, at Madonna Manor Nursing Home in North Attleboro. Born August 28, 1905, in North Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mathilda (nee Forton) Miller and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas before moving to Massachusetts in 1995. Mrs. Kerwin had been a member of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Parish in Tonawanda and then at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Parish in Seekonk, MA. She was the wife of the late Leo W. Kerwin, who died in 1991.
She is survived by her son, Thomas (Carol) Kerwin of Seekonk, MA; and two grandchildren, Shawn (Lisa) Kerwin and Erin (David) Kerwin Mardirosian. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Blake, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 9-10 AM Thursday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where prayers will be said at 10 AM Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in the Town of Tonawanda. If desired, memorials to Madonna Manor Nursing Home, 85 North Washington Street, North Attleboro, MA 02760, are preferred by the family.
Catherine R. Silva
Catherine "Kitty" Silva, age 87, of North Tonawanda, died Saturday, January 10, 2004, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born Novemeber 30, 1916, in Buffalo, she was the daughter of the late George and Florence (nee O'Neill) Berge and had been a resident of North Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. She was a member of St Paul's Church of the Nazarene in Sanborn and was the wife of the late Raymond J. Silva who died in 1973. She was also the mother of the late Raymond and Patrick Silva, and sister of the late George Price, Jr., Florence Bleekman and Georgina Jancetic.
She is survived by two daughters, Florence Silva Speelberg and Anne Silva Hopkins, both of North Tonawanda. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM Tuesday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where a prayer service will be held at 8 PM Tuesday evening; the Rev. Kenneth Comer officiating. Interment will be cared for privately at White Chapel Cemetery, Town of Amherst.
Magdalene H. Menz
Member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish
Magdalene (nee Smith) Menz, age 85, of the Town of Tonawanda, died Saturday, January 17, 2004, at the McAuley Residence. Born January 25, 1918, in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (nee Jacobs) Smith and had been resident of the Town of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. Mrs. Menz had operated Menz's Florist Shop in Cheektowaga before retiring in 1977, and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Parish in Tonawanda. She was the wife of the late Herman J. Menz, who died in 1978.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary N. Menz and Leslie (Richard) Ball; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Ann Ball, Molly (Brian) McMahon, Richard (Nicole) Ball and Timothy Ball; and a great-grandson, Patrick Timothy McMahon.
Friends may call on Monday only from 4-8 PM at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. Friends are invited to join with the family in celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM Tuesday at St Francis Chapel on Adam Street in Tonawanda. Interment will be cared for privately at Mt. Walter A. Marcinowski
Retired from FMC Chemical
Walter A. Marcinowski, age 90, of the Town of Tonawanda, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born on September 13, 1913, in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Marcinowski and had been a resident of the Town of Tonawanda for the greater part of his life. Mr. Marcinowski had been employed at FMC Chemical in Tonawanda, before retiring, and was a member of the Town of Tonawanda Seniors, St. Amelia Seniors, and the FMC Retirees. He loved to garden and golf. He was the brother of the late Alexander, Joseph, and Steven Marcinowski, Geneviea Stachnek, and Helen Mancuso.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Caroline (nee Orawiec) Marcinowski; a loving daughter, Nancy (late Robert) Aaron; two cherished grandsons, Jeffrey (Sharrie) Aaron and Gregory Aaron; three great-grandchildren, Jennifer Spencer, Robert Walter Aaron, and Kyle Lynch; and a great, great-grandson, Michael Spencer. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Julia and Agnes Marcinowski, and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 AM Saturday at St. Amelia’s R.C. Church on Eggert Road in the Town of Tonawanda. Friends invited. Entombment at Mt. Matilda Bauer
Former Bingo Worker at St. Francis Parish
Matilda “Tillie” Bauer, age 98, of Tonawanda, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at Nazareth Nursing Home in Buffalo. Born in Arad, Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (nee Kocsis) Kovacs and was a resident of Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and had been a devoted bingo worker at the church. Mrs. Bauer was a life member of the American Legion, Tonawandas Post No. 264 Auxiliary, a member of the Tonawanda Senior Citizens and a former volunteer at Kenmore Mercy Hospital. She was the wife of the late Louis Bauer who died in 1980, and mother of the late Frank E. Lasky.
She is survived by her daughter, Matilda Whyte of Florida; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Lasky, Jennifer Gribbon, Joseph Lasky, Jane (Sam) Formato, Judith (Sam) Prezioso, Pamela (Camelo) Bernal, and Chrislynn (Glenn) Freed. Also surviving are twelve great-grandchildren and four great, great-grandchildren.

Patricia E. Schuster
Lifelong Tonawanda Resident
Patricia (nee McIndoo) Schuster, age 73, of Tonawanda, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Grace McIndoo and had been a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. She was the wife of the late Harry W. Schuster, Jr., who died in 1980, and mother of the late Paul A. Schuster, who died in 1990.
She is survived by four sons, Harry W. (Gloria) Schuster, III, Jerry (Linda) Schuster, Jay (Beverly) Schuster, and Michael (Linda) Schuster; two daughters, Suann Schuster and Patricia (Russell) Lorich; and a brother, Joseph (Evelyn) McIndoo. Also surviving are12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends after 11 AM Saturday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where a memorial service will be held at 12 Noon Saturday; the Rev. Dr. Lance Brown officiating. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. If desired, memorials to the American Cancer Society, 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228, are preferred by the family.
Agnes Sattelberg
Lifelong Resident of Tonawandas
Agnes (nee Matyevich) Sattelberg, age 73, of North Tonawanda, died Sunday, February 15, 2004, at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born October 16, 1930, in Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (nee Cecot) Matyevich and had been a resident of North Tonawanda for the greater part of her life. She was the wife of the late Roger K. Sattelberg, who died July 8, 1994.
She is survived by a son, Roger Sattelberg, Jr. (Jane Pashong) of Lockport; two daughters, Cheryl A. (the late Timothy) Plunkett of Ransomville, and Chris (Robert) Zalewski of North Tonawanda; three grandchildren, L.Cpl. Brian Plunkett, USMC in Iraq, and Kayne and Kelsey Zalewski; and a sister, Stella Matyevich of North Tonawanda. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
