Army Veteran of Vietnam War
Richard J. Barden, age 51, of Tonawanda, died Saturday, February 14, 2004, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, he was a lifelong resident of Tonawanda. An Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Barden was a station manager for Sunoco Oil Products in Lockport, before becoming ill.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia L.A. (nee Dauscher) Barden; his mother, Patricia (nee Flynn) Barden of Tonawanda; and three sisters, Darlyne (Ronald) Swader, Debra (Larry) Krzak and Kim (Larry) Pacifico. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where a memorial service will be held at 8 PM. Friends invited. If desired, memorials to are preferred by the family.
Albert M. Sattelberg
Member of Adams Fire Company
Albert M. Sattelberg, age 89, of Wheatfield, died Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at Northgate Health Care Facility. Born August 15, 1914, in Wheatfield, he was the son of the late Albert C. and Louise (nee Wurl) Sattelberg and was a lifelong resident of Wheatfield. Mr. Sattelberg operated a farm on Krueger Road for most of his life and was also employed by Clarence Redi-mix before retiring. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, where he had served as a former trustee and elder, and was a Sunday School teacher for more than 60 years. Mr. Sattelberg was the oldest living member of Adams Volunteer Fire Company, where he had been a member for more than 60 years, and he was a member of the Wheatfield Volunteer Firefighters Benevolent Association. He was the husband of the late Winifred (nee Mavis) Sattelberg, who died April 2, 2002, and brother of the late Alvin Sattelberg and Melva Howell.
He is survived by several nieces, nephews, dear friends and neighbors.
Friends may call from 1-6 PM Sunday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Monday at St. Martin Lutheran Church, 322 Old Falls Blvd, North Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Acacia Park Cemetery.
Alan E. Lloyd
Member of The Fellowship of God's Word
Alan E. Lloyd, age 74, of the Town of Lockport, died Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Niagara Lutheran Home in Buffalo. Born January 12, 1930, he was the son of the late William E. and Cora (nee Beckstein) Lloyd. Mr. Lloyd had worked as a Rate Clerk for several trucking companies before retiring. He was a member of The Fellowship of God's Word in Tonawanda, and was a 50 gallon blood donor. He was the brother of the late Roger Lloyd.
He is survived by his wife, Grace (nee Waldraff) Lloyd; three daughters, Deborah (Calvin) Becker, Jeannette Schwarzmueller and Monica Schwarzmueller; a son, Robert (Suzy) Schwarzmueller; a sister, Rita (Eugene) Ecker; and a brother, Denis (Susann) Lloyd. Also surviving are 12 beloved grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 7 PM Saturday, February 28, at The Fellowship of God's Word. Paul E. Kennedy
Member of Sweeney Hose Company
Paul "Sponge" Kennedy, age 39, of North Tonawanda, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Erie County Medical Center. A lifelong resident of the Tonawandas, Mr. Kennedy was a 1984 graduate of North Tonawanda Senior High School and a member of Sweeney Hose Company for more than 20 years. He was a member of Ascension R.C. Parish and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan.
He is survived by his parents, Ralph and Carol (nee Harmon) Kennedy; a sister, Maureen (Mike) Jacobs; two brothers, Patrick (Tina) Kennedy and Michael (Jennifer) Kennedy; a nephew, Allen Jacobs; two nieces, Samantha and Madelyn Kennedy; and a God-son, Joshua Large. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-9 PM Monday at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where prayers will be said at 9 AM Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM at Ascension R.C. Church on Robinson Street in North Tonawanda. Friends invited. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. If desired, memorials to the North Tonawanda National Little League, Wheatfield Street & Erie Avenue, North Tonawanda, NY 14120, are preferred by the family.
Henry B. Walty
Retired from GM Engine Plant
Henry B. Walty, age 73, of the Town of Tonawanda, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at his residence after a long illness. Born in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Clifford and Flora (nee Moyer) Walty and had been a resident of the Tonawandas for the greater part of his life. An Army combat veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Walty had worked at the GM Engine Plant in the Town of Tonawanda for 30 years, before retiring in 1986.
He is survived by a sister, Ida Garrison; a nephew, Joseph Garrison; a grand-nephew, Allan Garrison; and a grand-niece, Kimberly Garrison.

Leora E. Olmstead
Leora (nee Walters) Olmstead, age 85, of Silver Spring, MD, formerly of North Tonawanda, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at Washington Adventist Hospital in Maryland, after a brief illness. Born November 26, 1918, in Tonawanda, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Marie Walters and had been a lifelong resident of the Tonawandas before moving to Maryland last year. She taught piano and violin for many years, and assisted her husband, the late Roy F. Olmstead who died in 1985, in operating his business, Roybert Press in Buffalo.
She is survived by a son, Lynn (Holly) Olmstead; four daughters, Elaine (Donald) John, Margaret (Ronald) Karolyi, Jan (John) McCoy, and Lori (Doug) McCray; two sisters, Edna Tack and Ada (Sam) Renzi; and a brother, Robert (Mavis) Walters. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2-3 PM on Sunday only at the Hamp Funeral Home, Inc., Adam and Seymour Streets, Tonawanda, where services will be held at 3 PM Sunday, Pastor Michael S. Armayor officiating. Friends invited. Interment will be cared for privately at Elmlawn Cemetery. Leon A. Bartz
Member of St. Francis Parish
Leon A. Bartz, age 91, of Tonawanda, died Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a brief illness. Born June 6, 1912, in Poznan, Poland, he was the son of the late Wladislaus and Stanislawa (nee Makowka) Bartz. A resident of Tonawanda for more than 45 years, Mr. Bartz had been employed as a draftsman for a number of companies in Buffalo, before retiring. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Tonawanda.
He is survived by his wife, Natalie S. Bartz; a daughter, Joanne (Michael) Miechowski; and a grandson, Michael Miechowski, Jr..
