Candlena, Matthew D. “Papa”, 81, of North Tonawanda on Monday (April 25, 2005) at his residence after a long illness. Matthew was a member of Ascension R.C. Church. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, who served in the Pacific Theater and a member of Stephen Sikora Post #1322. He was the owner of Matt’s Mobil Service Station for over 35 years. Brother of the late Rose (Michael) Guarnieri.
Beloved husband of Josephine (nee Cardinale) Candlena of North Tonawanda. Loving father of Phillip Candlena (Kathy Henwood) and Mary Jo (Paul) Murphy of both of North Tonawanda, M. Donald Candlena (Robin Haigh) of Niagara Falls, Michelle Miller (Tim Eiswerth) of Montoursville, PA and David Anthony (Christina) Candlena of North Tonawanda. Dear brother of Connie (August) Kupco of Buffalo, Russell (Elaine) Candlena of the Town of Tonawanda, Mildred (William) Downey of Glendale, AZ and Eileen (Edwin) Zwetsch of North Tonawanda. Proud grandfather of Christopher and Timothy Murphy, Nicole Candlena, Sean and Amie Miller and Matthew and Lauren Candlena. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Castiglione, Gemma A. (nee Valentine) 83, of North Tonawanda on Friday (December 3, 2004) at DeGraff Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Gemma was a member of Ascension R.C. Church and the Renaissance Club. She retired from Spaulding Fibre. Wife of the late Leo Castiglione. Sister of the late Pat and Sam Valentine and Sarah Stover and Frances Valentine.
Beloved mother of Carmen (Kitty) Castiglione of Depew and Leo (Patty) Castiglione of North Tonawanda. Proud grandmother of Scott (Kim) Castiglione of Lancaster, Christian Castiglione of Amherst, Mandy Castiglione of Depew and Sarah and Gina Castiglione both of North Tonawanda. Great grandmother of Maxwell and Makenzie both of Lancaster. Loving sister of Jenny (the late Anthony) Petraitis, Louis (Julie) Valentine, Viola (the late Adam) Kokoska, Joseph (Betty) Valentine and Antoinette Valentine. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Edward H. Culver
Culver, Edward H. 56, of North Tonawanda on Friday (March 10, 2006) after a long illness at Buffalo General Hospital. Edward was a member of St. Albert the Great R.C. Church. He had just retired from the North Tonawanda Department of Public Works in December after 21 years of service. He was an avid stock car enthusiast and could be seen at the Lancaster and Ransomville Speedways during the summer. Son of the late Gordon and Bernice Culver.
Beloved husband for 33 years of Janice M. (nee Voigt) Culver of North Tonawanda. Loving father of Amy Culver of Wheatfield and Adam Culver of North Tonawanda. Dear brother of Carol Hartman of Niagara Falls. Son-in-law of Raymond F. Voigt (the late Rita) and brother-in-law of Robert F. Voigt both of North Tonawanda. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday March 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Albert the Great R.C. Church. Interment services will be private at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery.
John E. Crysler
John E. Crysler, age 65, of Youngstown, New York passed away on Monday (March 20, 2005) suddenly at home. Mr. Crysler was an Investment Advisor for Nesbitt-Burns in St. Catharine’s. He was a member of the St. Catharine’s Club, in St. Catharines, Ontario and a Sr. member of the Youngstown Yacht Club. He was an avid sailor and had owned several sailing yachts, which he sailed on Lake Ontario. He was a proud sixth generation of Crysler’s who lived or worked in St. Catharines. He had been a resident of Youngstown, NY, for the last ten years.
Mr. Crysler is the father of John G. Crysler, M.D. of Youngstown, and brother of the late Patricia Ostovar.
Friends are invited to the Youngstown Yacht Club, 491 Water Street, Youngstown, NY to share in John’s memory, on Friday April 1, 2004 from 2-4 PM. Memorials may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are being handled by the Brunner Funeral Home (716-692-3841).

Beatrice Dawes, (nee Davignon) 87, of North Tonawanda on Tuesday (May 10, 2005) at North Gate Manor after a long illness. Beatrice was a member of Ascension R.C. Church. She was the wife of the late Arthur Dawes and sister of the late Francis Davignon, Helianna Rhordanz and Alice Litzenberger.
Loving mother of Peter (Donna) Dawes of Pendleton, Katherine (Richard) Calorusso of Wheatfield, Michael (Carol) Dawes and Charles (Tae Sun) Dawes both of North Tonawanda, Nancy (Joseph) Molnar of Buffalo and Anne (Steven) Zielski of Tonawanda. Dear sister of Jeanette Conlan and Patricia Hensel both of North Tonawanda. Proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Gawrys, Jean M. (nee Meagher), 79, of North Tonawanda on Wednesday (September 22, 2004) at her home under the care of her family and Niagara Hospice, Inc. Jean was a member of Ascension R.C. Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1411. She had retired from Fischer’s Pharmacy where she worked as a Clerk for many years.
