Donald Mumbach
Donald J. Mumbach of East Concord, died Friday, May 3, 2002.
After graduation from Hamburg High School in 1943, he attended Canisius College, in both the day and evening school. In December 1945 he began an accounting career. He attained a certified public accountant license and became a partner in the CPA firm of Robert P. Schermerhorn & Company, which merged with Touche Ross & Company in 1966, an international CPA firm. He left that firm in 1974 to continue a public accounting practice in Hamburg, and later in Springville, and was the current owner of Concord Business Center in Springville. For a period of approximately 20 years, he was involved in drilling and operating natural gas and oil wells in New York and Pennsylvania.
During his career, he served as president of the Buffalo Area Chapter of New York State Society of CPAs, president of Estate Analysts of Western New York; trustee of Hilbert College in Hamburg; trustee of Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, and a director and business consultant of many businesses.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy (nee Haberer); father of Patricia M. (David Kay) Mumbach and Donald F. (Lisa) Mumbach, both of East Concord; grandfather of Troy, Scott and Kathrine. brother of William (Eileen) Mumbach, Everdina (late Charles) Mauser and the late Norbert Mumbach; brother-in-law of Rosemary Mumbach. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday morning at 10:30 from St. Aloysius Church, Springville. The Rev. John S. Kwiecien officiated. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Aloysius Church, Springville or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville.

Carolyn Smith
Carolyn D. Smith, 80, of Fayetteville, NY, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse. A native of Byrant Pond, Maine, she was a resident of Springville for 13 years before moving to Fayetteville.
She was a 1943 graduate of the University of Maine, and was a member of the United Church of Fayetteville and its Women's Covenant Group. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Springville.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Stanley B. Smith; two daughters, Wanda E. Van de Bogart of Sodus and Waverley E. Harvey of Springville; two sons, Timothy S. Smith of Dover, Delaware and Thomas N. Smith of Marcellus; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services were held, with burial in Maine. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First United Church of Springville, Main Street, Springville, NY 14141.

Evelyn Jenison
Evelyn L. Jenison (nee Sturdevant) of Springville passed away June 5, 2002. She was the devoted wife of Clarence E. Jenison; mother of Clarence J. (Zeli) Jenison, Sylvia M. (Bruce) Wotherspoon, Doris J. (George) Charanis and the late Gloria M. Jenison and Robert H. Jenison; sister of Doris (Cliff) Woodard and the late Gertrude Clark; grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at Maple Grove Cemetery on Saturday morning, June 15, at 11 o'clock, in Friendship, with the Rev. Robert Peck, ThD, officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Buffalo, Inc.

Eleanor A. Dunham (nee Flading), June 7, 2002, age 87, of Springville, formerly of Riverside, NY. Wife of the late Charles Dunham; mother of Patricia (late Owen) Darling; grandmother of Robert (Wendy) Darling, Lori Darling and Catherine (Vincent) Renaldo; great-grandmother of Owen Michael, Kira, Daniel, Ryan and Randy. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday morning, June 22, at Elm- lawn Cemetery, Chapel of the Elms, town of Tonawanda, at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Robert W. Peck, ThD., will officiate. Arrangements were made by the Smith-Weis- mantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville.

Lewis B. Emerson of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Springville, August 1, 2002. Husband of Evelyn Emerson and the late Lucille M. (nee Reed) Emerson; father of Lyle (Sandy) Emerson; grandfather of James A. (Karen) and Jennifer L. Emerson; great-grandfather of Hannah and Brooke Emerson; brother of the late Edward, Charles, Robert and Walter Emerson; brother-in-law of Carmen and Marie Emerson. Friends may call Thursday evening, Aug. 15, from 4-8 o'clock at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville, where funeral services will be held at 8 o'clock. The Rev. Marlene A. Goodman (nee DeLair)
Marlene A. Goodman (nee DeLair) of Springville, August 10, 2002. Wife of Walter M. Good- man; mother of Shelly (Clinton) Pataye; grandmother of Timothy, Tasha and Craig Pataye; sister of Delnora (James) Groff, James (Elsie) and Leonard (Barbara) DeLair. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock from the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville. The Rev. John S. Kwiecien officiated. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Springville.

Aileen M. Domon (nee Smith) of West Valley, July 7, 2002. Wife of Laurence H.; mother of Karen VanGorder, Maureen (Mark) Marchioli, Kevin (Dori) Domon and the late Michelle Severson; also survived by 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sister of Dan (Gloria) Smith, Sr. Alice Roach RSM, and the late Al Smith. Friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday morning, August 17, from St. John the Baptist Church at 11 o'clock. The Rev. Thomas McCarthy will officiate. Richard "Al" Francis, age 78, of Delevan, August 6, 2002. Husband of Patricia (Esswein) and the late Mae (Green); father of George (Kathy) Francis and Ellie (Paul) Bentson; brother of Mary Kibler, Theresa (Al) Tracy and the late Nellie Green, Betty Smith, Alice Cleveland, and Art Francis; also survived by four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Julia Decker Dziekonski, 53, of Machias, August 12, 2002. Wife of Walter F.; sister of James, Jamie and David Decker. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Philomena's Catholic Church, 26 North Plymouth Avenue, Franklinville. Burial will be in Mount Prospect Cemetery, Franklinville.

Ormus W., Jr. "Doc" Davenport
Ormus W., Jr. "Doc" Davenport of Boston, August 12, 2002. Husband of Josephine (nee Martin); father of Bonnie (late Earl) O'Neal and Richard (Mary) Davenport; brother of Louise Snyder; also survived by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. No prior visitation. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Vivan Shantz
A memorial gathering for Vivian Shantz of North Tonawanda, a licensed practical nurse and retired nursing instructor, was held Tuesday evening from the Unitarian Universalist Church, Buffalo, with Pastor Shirley Chan officiating.
Mrs. Shantz, 81, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 in Bertrand Chaffee Hospital after a sudden illness.
Born Vivian Riley in Windsor, Ont., she graduated from Victoria School of Nursing in London, Ont. in 1943, and moved to Buffalo. She worked at Sisters Hospital and Our Lady of Victory Hospital as a bedside nurse, and later became director of nursing at Ransomville Hospital and at the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Nursing Home in Lockport.
In 1979, Mrs. Shantz graduated from the University at Buffalo with a bachelor's degree in community health. She became a nursing instructor at Orleans Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services and was director of nursing at the Health Association of Niagara County until retiring in 1986.
In retirement, Mrs. Shantz was an artist, winning an award for her watercolor painting "The Pub" from the Niagara Council of the Arts in the 1970s. She also headed a travel club and was active with a women's writer's club and volunteered with Literacy Volunteers at North Tonawanda Public Library.
Mrs. Shantz's Scouting career began in Canada as a Girl Guide and continued as a Girl Scout troop leader in Wilson, mentoring generations of young women. She was a member of Silver Trefoil, Girl Scouts of Niagara County, until her death.
Her husband, Oliver, died 12 years ago.
Survivors include two sons, Eric of Atlanta, and Brian of Niagara Falls; a daughter, Doranne DeRosa of Buffalo; two brothers, Walter Davis and Kenneth Davis, both of Windsor; and four grandchildren.
Arrangements were made by the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville.

Winifred L. Rothenberg
Winifred L. Rothenberg, August 25, 2002, of Colden. Wife of the late Cecil Rothenberg; mother of Forest (Audrey), Kenneth (Florence) and Alfred (Gail) Rothenberg; grandmother of six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; sister of Thelma (late Morris). Dr. Russell J. Joy, age 76, August 25, 2002, of Hanover, NY, formerly of North Collins. Beloved husband of Mildred E. (Wanti) Joy; father of Mari Beth (George) Jones, Roslyn (Barney) Colon and the late Dr. Anthony M. Joy; grandfather of Christine and Nicole Joy, Amelia and Alex Colon, and Meridith Jones; brother of Serena (John) Cook and Catherine (Robert) Jackson. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Wentland Funeral Home, 10634 Main St., North Collins, where a funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 9:45 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Spirit Church, North Collins, at 10:30. Mary R. Hemmerling (nee Belscher)
Mary R. Hemmerling (nee Belscher), Aug. 27, 2002, 80 years old, of Springville. Beloved wife of Henry H. Hemmerling; mother of Sheila Spors, Harold (Janice) Hemmerling, Bucky (Denny) Meyers, the late Patsy (Charles) Skelton, and Gleora Hemmerling; sister of Donald, John Belscher, and the late Clayton, Bob, Dorothy Young, Virginia Golabek and Bernard Belscher; grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Joseph J. Ebert, August 25, 2002, of Sardinia. Beloved husband of Nanette Fendzlau Ebert; loving father of Rebecca Ebert, Joseph and Susan Ebert; son of Cecilia Budnik Ebert and the late Jack C. Ebert; brother of Dennis (Pat), Paul (Penny) and Cindy (Robert) Schaefer; also survived by nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Wood Funeral Home, 784 Main Street, East Aurora. Mass of Christian burial from St. Jude's R.C.
