Allen Roy Engels, age 70, a lifelong resident of West Valley, December 4, 2002.
He was married to Pauline Herman Engels for 48 years; father of Cindy (Donald) Foster, Tim (Frances) Engels, Lori (Bruce) Smith and Jay (Carol) Engels.; grandfather of 11 grandchildren and the late Michael Engels; brother of Jerry and the late Donald Engels.
He and his brother Don built a milk hauling business, A&D Engels Milk Hauling Co., that they started in 1957 with two can trucks. Allen also had 50 years of service to the West Valley Volunteer firemen and was its fire commissioner for 28 years.
He held many offices at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and supported the local community by being a member of the West Valley Central School Board of Education for 11 years.
A service of remembrance was held Saturday morning, Dec. 7 from St. Paul's United Methodist Church, West Valley. The Rev. Glen Hardman officiated. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, West Valley.
Arrangements were made by the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, Inc., 271 East Main Street, Springville.

Joseph T. Maul
Joseph T. Maul, 84, of Springville, died January 16, 2003 after a brief illness. He was affectionately referred to as the "Mayor of Sharp Street," where he and his wife Ruth had lived for more than half a century. The couple had been married for 62 years and raised a family of nine children.
Born and raised in Buffalo, Joe served in the Army National Guard prior to World War II. He worked at Bell Aircraft and Linde Air and later at Regal Electronics in Buffalo for more than 25 years. He also had his own television and radio repair business in Springville for many years. Prior to retirement in 1982, he worked at Springville Mfg.
He and Ruth enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and had visited Alaska, Hawaii, Panama, the Caribbean and South America. His hobbies included fishing and gardening.
Joe was a lifelong member of the Concord Historical Society and served on the Martha Committee at St. Aloysius RC Church in Springville.
A very family oriented person, Joe tried to ensure that he and his family enjoyed a camping or traveling vacation each year. Some of his proudest moments were spent with his 34 grandchildren and more recently with his 18 great-grandchildren.
He was the husband of Ruth (Wilting); father of Charlan (Ronald) Priel, Joel (Jean) Maul, Eloise (Thom) Mohr, Rosemary (Charles) Sutherland, Wayne (Dora) Maul, John (Christine) Maul, George (Kathleen) Maul, Rex (Cheryl) Maul and Marcella Maul; grandfather of 34 surviving grandchildren and the late Lara; great-grandfather of 18.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Aloysius RC Church, Springville. Arrangements were made by the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 East Main St., Springville. Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius Regional School, 186 Franklin St., Springville, NY 14141.
Lee Bobseine
Lee Bobseine, 81, formerly of Boston, died January 19, 2003 at the Gowanda Nursing Home.
He served in the U.S. Army and was retired from Riefler Concrete. He was a member of the Dance Band, playing trombone. He was also a longtime member of the Faith United Church of Boston.
Lee was the husband of the late Gertrude Bobseine; father of Larry and Craig Bobseine of Louisiana, Brian (Diane) Bobseine of Gowanda; stepfather of Jackie Burley of Gowanda, Peggy Brown of Springville, and John Bobseine of Boston; brother of Lulu Feuz and Thelma (Stuart) Glass of Springville; grandfather of seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Donald G. Jackson
Donald G. Jackson, 79, of South Buffalo, a retired A&P super market executive and decorated World War II veteran, died Saturday, January 18, 2003 in Lakewood Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
He served with the 413th Infantry during World War II. He worked briefly for an accounting firm, then joined the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co. as an office manager, and advanced in positions in Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Altoona, Pa., Cleveland and various assignments throughout the Northeast. When he retired in 1983, he was vice president in charge of the Buffalo district, overseeing 145 stores in New York and Pennsylvania.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the Springville Country Club and a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and golf. In retirement, he and his wife lived at Panorama, a hillside farm they built in East Otto.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, the former Barbara Ann McClusky; three sons, Donald R.W. of Wrentham, Mass., Brian R. of Kirtland, Ohio, and Robert G. of Madison, Ohio; two brothers, Robert of Marilla and Joseph of Charlotte, NC.; a sister, Sister Mary Juliana of South Buffalo; and eight grandchildren.
Prayers were said Thursday morning at 9:30 in James V. Cannan Funeral Home, Orchard Park, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial from St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Orchard Park at 10 o'clock. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hamburg.

Alice l. "Pete" Miller (nee Miller), January 20, 2003, of Colden. Wife of the late Clarence G.; sister of the late Edward, George, Lena, Mable Wohlhueter and Marion Miller; survived by nieces and nephews. Dora Gasser
Dora Gasser of Springville passed away on January 21, 2003.
She was born Dora Herren in the town of Concord on Feb. 10, 1908. After graduating from Griffith Institute and Buffalo State College she taught in several rural one-room schools, and then for many years as a first grade teacher in the Frontier School System.
Retiring in 1970, she and her husband, Arthur, moved to Sun City, Arizona, where they lived until his death in 1992, when she returned to Springville.
Dora was the organist for her church in Boston for 35 years. Gifted with a beautiful voice, she also sang in several choral groups, often as a guest soloist.
Active in church and community affairs, she volunteered at Boswell Hospital in Sun City for 16 years, and was honored on several occasions for her many hours of devoted service to the patients and the hospital.
On her return to Springville, she resumed what had become a way of life, service to others. The library offered her an opportunity to work with children by participating in the Preschool Reading Program. She also enjoyed the retired teachers birthday group and the Over 60 Club at the Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her niece, Gloria Neff; and several grandnieces and nephews, Barbara Critoph, James R. Neff, David Herren and Merilee Sue Land.
A memorial service will be held at Faith United Church of Christ, Boston, on Saturday morning, February 8 at 11 o'clock. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Faith United Church of Christ, Boston.
