HOUSTON, Texas -- Jennie S. Pawlyshyn, 88, formerly of Eureka Avenue, Herkimer, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 31, 2002, at home in Houston.
She was born Oct. 18, 1913, in New York City, daughter of the late George and Mary Prysiazniuk Sawchuk.
Jennie was raised and educated in Sharon Springs.
On May 23, 1936, she married Vincent Pawlyshyn in Ames, N.Y., a loving and devoted union of 55 years until his passing on July 12, 1981.
She moved to Houston in 1987.
Jennie had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Herkimer.
Surviving are one sister, Mildred Tremblay with whom she resided in Houston, Texas; a nephew and two cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Vincent, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Sawchuk in 1988.
Funeral services will be Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer.
The Rev. Eugene Kipper, pastor of the Assembly of God Church, Herkimer, will officiate.
Calling hours will be two hours prior to the funeral service (6-8 p.m.).
Mrs. Pawlyshyn will be laid to rest in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls, later this spring.

Emily L. Sheckells
FAIRPORT - Emily L. Sheckells, 90, of Nine Mile Point Road, passed away on Tuesday morning, January 9, 2001 in the Fairport Baptist Home, where she has resided since 1993.
Born on March 20, 1910 in Newport, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Mina Ireland Lowther.
She was raised and educated in Newport.
On July 5, 1932, she married the Reverend Doctor Albert W. Sheckells in the First Baptist Church Herkimer.
A loving union of forty-five years until his passing on April 7, 1978.
During the years of their marriage, they resided in Herkimer, Middletown, Providence Road, RI and Bridgeport, CT, where Dr. Sheckells had served as church pastor and in Massachusetts and New York where he was Director of Christian Education for the American Baptist Churches.
She had a strong belief in God and lived a devoted Christian Life.
She was a member of the Park Central Church, Syracuse; she was a Sunday school teacher, a member of Churchwomen United American Baptist Ministers Wives, Leader of the Guild Houseparty and Leader of Camps and Crafts.
She enjoyed her garden flowers and doing crafts.
She will always be remembered as a loving and caring person and will be missed by her family and friends.
Surviving her are one son, Stephen F. and his wife Diane S. Sheckells of Kinston, New Hampshire; two daughters, Jane Ann Sheckells of State College, PA, Mina and her husband Ronald West of Syracuse; two sister-in-laws Marjorie Lowther of East Herkimer, Naomi MacIntyre of St. Petersburg, FL; four grandchildren two great-grandchildren; four nieces; two nephews and a cousin.
Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a brother Robert N. Lowther.
A graveside service in Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer will take place later this spring with the Reverend Jeremy L. Spencer, pastor of the First Baptist Church Herkimer officiating.

Julia Penwell
MOHAWK - Julia Penwell, age 97, of Robinson Road, passed away on Monday morning, January 7, 2002 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica.
She was born on May 26, 1904 in Brookneal, VA, daughter of the late Lawrence and Eunice Reams Clark.
Julia was raised and educated in Brookneal.
She was married to Robert Penwell who predeceased her in 1980.
For many years, Mrs. Penwell worked for the Fannie Farmer Candy Store in Minneapolis, MN, retiring as store manager in 1969.
In 1980, she moved to Mohawk, where she has resided with her daughter Norma Spencer.
Julia was happiest when she was surrounded by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her daughter: Norma Spencer of Mohawk, two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great-grandchildren several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Robert, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Bernard and Carl Clark, three sisters: Lucille Clark, Myrtie Pegram, Adeline Clark and a great-great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family later this spring in Highland Rural Cemetery, Jordanville.

Gertrude Johanna Erb
HERKIMER - Gertrude (Trudy) Johanna Erb, 79, of Meadow Lane, died on Tuesday evening, Aug. 8, 2000 in Folts Homes, Herkimer.
She was born on May 21, 1921 in Mechtal Beuthen, Germany, daughter of the late Paul and Johanna Piotek Kowollik.
Gertrude was raised and educated in Germany.
On Dec. 27, 1951, she married George Conrad Erb in Bad Nauheim, Germany.
Because of her husband's military career and work for the United States government, they had lived in various cities and countries throughout the world.
A Herkimer resident in the 1970s, she had worked for Montgomery Ward, retiring in 1979.
They had permanently resided in Herkimer since 1993.
She was a member of St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer, the AARP Local 1410 and the National AARP.
Surviving besides her husband of 48 years, George, are three sons; Herbert G. Erb of Inkster, Mich., Martin O. and his wife Theresa Erb of Garland, Texas, Bernhard J. and his wife, Laura Erb of Bloomingburg, N.Y., two daughters; Ulrike J.P. Hendrickson of Xenia, Ohio, Rosemary S. Erb of Portland, Maine, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister, both in Germany.
Funeral will be from Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Francis deSales Church, Herkimer, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Peter Nabozny, pastor, officiating.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
