Herkimer -- Agnes Griswold, 99, a resident of Folts Homes, Herkimer, NY, since 1995, died on October 23, 2000.
She was born in Amsterdam, NY, on February 19, 1901.
She had three sisters and two brothers, all deceased.
Her father, Frank Joslin, was General Manager of the Inman Mfg. Co. \
In the fall of 1918, she entered Skidmore College with the first four-year class of that institution.
At the same time, her future husband, Laurence Griswold, from Herkimer, entered Union College, Schenectady, NY.
Both graduated from their respective schools in 1922; Agnes as a home economist and Laurence as a civil engineer.
Agnes taught home economics in Cooperstown, NY, prior to her marriage in 1924.
Her husband became principal engineer of the Utica Board of Water Supply.
The couple who lived in Utica had three children: Mrs. Robert J. Maher of Bethel Park, PA, Mrs. Maurice Dow of S. Sutton, NH, and Laurence Griswold of Marcy, NY.
There are six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Agnes was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Hartford, for over sixty years.
She sang in the church choir for several decades and was active in various of the church's women's groups.
Agnes was an avid vegetable gardener, an astute Contract bridge player and an unwavering fan of the New York Yankees.
Her family members were fans of her raspberry and blueberry pies.
After her husband's death in 1973, Agnes became enthused with Brailling and became a Library of Congress-certified Brailler.
She Brailled with the Mohawk Valley Brailling Group for about twenty years.
Burial will be a private family ceremony at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, NY.
Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.

Virginia Volo
HERKIMER - Virginia Volo, age 79, formerly of 346 Eastern Avenue, passed away on Saturday morning, August 4, 2001 in the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion.
She was born on October 17, 1921 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Wejciechowski.
A lifelong Herkimer resident, she was educated in Herkimer Schools.
On September 2, 1939, she married Leborio "Lebo" Volo in the Christ Episcopal Church, Herkimer.
A blessed union of forty-six years until his passing on September 28, 1993.
For a period of six years, she worked for the General Electric Company in Utica.
She was a homemaker and mother who loved to knit and be surrounded by her friends and family.
She had a real love for the out of doors and camping.
She is survived by two sons and their wives; Robert and Patricia Volo of Herkimer, Richard Eugene and Linda Volo of Hicksville, Long Island, a sister; Emily Dychko of Herkimer, five grandchildren; Morra Volo of Charlotte, Lisa Maney of Hicksville, Brett and his wife, Joanne Volo, of Long Island, Kyle Volo and Stacey Volo of Hicksville; one great-granddaughter, Samantha Maney of Hicksville, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in FENNER FUNERAL HOME INC., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, with the Reverend William Otis, past of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday (today) 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Memorial donation may be made to the Salvation Army or the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Edwin (Bill) Harkins
MOHAWK - Edwin (Bill) Harkins, 84, of Marshall Avenue, died on Saturday afternoon, December 30, 2000 in Little Falls Hospital after a long illness.
He was born on October 15, 1916, in Ilion, son of the late Clayton and Myrtle Jane Hick Harkins.
A lifelong area resident, he was raised and educated in Ilion Schools.
He had worked for the A&P Grocery Store, Remington Arms, Savage Arms, Savage Typewriter, was a carpenter and for thirty years, worked for the Chicago Pneumatic Company retiring in 1979.
On May 3, 1941, he married Susan Innes in the Mohawk Methodist Church.
He gave three years of his life to the cause of freedom in World War II.
He served with the U.S. Army in the 8th Armored Division, known as the "The Thundering Herd" out of Camp Polk, LA.
He participated in the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.
Mr. Harkins believed in God and Jesus and for 53 years, served him faithfully as a member of the Mohawk United Methodist Church.
He was Sunday school Superintendent for sixteen years, as well as Lay Leader, Chairman of the Council on Ministries, President of the Tri-D Class, Sunday school teacher of College Youth's and Seniors Bible Teacher.
He, at one time, had served as President of the Mohawk Parent Teachers Association.
His hobbies were painting on Slate and decorating cakes.
He was a loving husband and grandfather.
He devoted his life to making home, his wife, and children a great family affair.
Besides his loving wife of fifty-nine years, Susan, he leaves a son, the Reverend William Harkins, and his wife, Sue, of Richfield Springs; one daughter, Jane Miller and her husband, Kenneth of Florence, VT; six granddaughters, Jennifer and her husband, Rusty Corron of Belleville, Katie Adams of Boston, MA, Hannah Adams of Rutland, VT, Theresa and Christine Miller of Florence, VT, Deanna Harkins of Richfield Springs; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Samuel Floyd Harkins, and two sisters, Helen Lamphier and Shirley Harkins.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 am in FENNER FUNERAL HOME INC., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
The Reverend Deborah Wollaber, pastor of the Mohawk United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Interment will be Mohawk Cemetery next spring.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
