Herkimer - Viola Margaret Nadeau, 80, of East Albany Street, died peacefully on Sunday morning, February 6, 2000, in Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion.
She was born on April 3, 1919, in Bennington, VT, daughter of the late Franz and Imogene Woodard.
A Bennington resident during her childhood, she was raised and educated there.
On December 19, 1939, she was married to Alcide Nadeau in Bennington.
He passed away in 1943.
Viola came to Herkimer in 1987 from Cohoes, to live with her daughter, Eileen.
She was a homemaker who loved to cook and bake for her family.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Bennington, VT.
Surviving are four daughters, Eileen Nadeau, with whom she resided, Eva Check of NC, Christine Dougherty of Hyde Park, Angela Fusco of Johnstown, four sons; John and his wife, Angela Fusco, of Wingdale, Peter Fusco of Orlando, FL, Harry Fusco of Cohoes, Alcide Fusco of Herkimer; twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Alcide, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Fusco, in 1998.
Funeral service will take place on Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
The Reverend William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer, will officiate.
Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends two hours prior to the funeral service (6:00 to 8:00 PM).
Harvey Glynn Miner "Skinny"
HERKIMER - Harvey Glynn Miner "Skinny", 87, of Willis Avenue, died on Thursday morning, August 24, 2000 in Little Falls Hospital.
He was born on October 22, 1912, in Brandon, VT, son of the late Edward E. and Florence Adams Miner.
His family moved to Herkimer when he was a young boy.
He was a graduate of Herkimer High School, class of 1932. .
A U.S. Army veteran, he enlisted in 1942, serving with the 100th and 5th Divisions in Ardennes, Central Europe and Northern France.
He proudly fought in the battle of the Bulge and was honorably discharged in 1945.
On October 4, 1956, he married Helen Higgins in the First Baptist Church, Herkimer.
For 34 years, he worked for the Remington Arms Company, retiring in 1975.
He was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church, Herkimer, joining the church in 1924, a life member of Michael Pliseck VFW Post #4915, and a member of the 25-year club of Remington Arms.
Surviving besides his wife of 43 years, Helen, are several nieces and nephews, including Robert Miner of Cincinnati, OH, Barbara Morrish of Australia; four great-nieces and great-nephews; a cousin Florence Neeley of Port Charlotte, FL. \
He was preceded in death by his brother, Reginald Miner.
Funeral service will be on Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Herkimer, with the Reverend Jeremy Spencer, pastor officiating.
Interment, with full military honors to be accorded, will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church Herkimer, The American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Unit of Folts Home.
Envelopes will be available at the funeral.
Members of Michael Pliseck VFW Post # 4915 are asked to meet at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:00 PM for services.
Ralph "Jack' Lowell
HERKIMER - Ralph "Jack" Lowell, 93, of Eureka Ave., died Monday morning, Nov. 13, 2000, in Folts Homes, Herkimer.
He was born Oct. 19, 1907, in Herkimer, the son of the late Charles T. and Lela R. Snyder.
A lifelong Herkimer resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School.
On Feb. 23, 1943, he married Florence Johnson in the parsonage of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, a blessed union of 57 years, until her passing on Sept. 1 of this year.
Jack was a hard worker and devoted family man.
He first worked for Laird Coal Yard in Herkimer, as a truck driver.
During World War II, he worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady.
After the war, he worked for the Cherry Burrell Company in Little Falls, and later, at Chicago Pneumatic Company, Utica, retiring in 1969.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer.
Surviving him are one son, Donald and his wife, Barbara Lowell of Glouster, Va.; two daughters and their husbands, Esther and Charles Brown of Eager, Ariz., and Carol and Roger Blum of East Herkimer; a stepson, Roy and his wife, JoAnn Preston of Mohawk; two stepdaughters, Lois Harrup of Brooksville, Fla. and Gladys and her husband, Byron Mosher of Plattsburgh; one brother, Albert Lowell of Herkimer; one sister, Mildred Luce of East Herkimer; 43 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents and wife, Florence, he was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Nellie Lowell; two brothers, Clarence and Benjamin Lowell; five sisters, Bessie Tarbox, Minnie VanderWeil, Marguerite Guyer, Annie Reisedorf and Myrtle Ropeter; and two grandsons.
Funeral service will take place Thursday at 1 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer.
The Rev. William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer will officiate.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service (noon-1 p.m.).
James E. Smith
HERKIMER - James E. Smith, 59, of Steuben Hill Road, died unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, December 6, 2000.
He was born on January 30, 1941, in Lyons Dale, a son of the late Stanley S. and Evelyn B. Watson Smith.
He was raised and educated in Lyons Falls.
Formerly of Stittsville, he moved to Herkimer in 1981, when he married Barbara (BJ) Tyrrell. ,
He had worked as a skilled carpenter and built Adirondack furniture.
He was a member of the Church of Saint Anthony and Joseph, and the National Rifle Association.
He enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his devoted wife of 19 years, Barbara, are his children; Jennifer Lee Smith, of the home address, William Skutch and his wife Cristie of Dallas TX, Mary Rivers and her husband, Tim, and John Smith, all of Lake George, Joseph Smith, Elizabeth Bearden, Jerome Smith, all of Florida; his brothers and sisters, Eileen Smith Arcuri and her husband, Fred of Cold Brook, Ronald S. Smith of Rochester, Dawn Snyder of Oriskany, Linda Smith Brown of Clinton, fourteen grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, James E. Smith, Jr.
Funeral from Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, will be on Monday at 8:45 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30a.m in the Church of Saint Anthony and Joseph.
The Reverend Robert S. Shinos, pastor, will officiating.
Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
