HERKIMER - Russell Bell, 73, of Grey-Wilmurt Road, Cold Brook, passed away on Saturday evening, January 7, 2001 in Heritage Nursing Home, Utica.
He was born on September 11, 1927 in Binghamton, son of the late J. William and Lela Jones Bell.
Mr. Bell came to this area as young man from Binghamton, and has resided here since.
He was a member of the HARC Seniors Program.
A kind and gentle man, Russell loved to be around children.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Other than his advocate, Mary Allen, of Binghamton, Russell leaves no immediate family.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 2:00 PM in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
The Reverend Deborah Wollaber, pastor of the Mohawk United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Interment will be in Middleville Cemetery later this Spring.
Friends who wish may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service(1:00 to 2:00 PM)
Rosemary Carpenter
HERKIMER - Rosemary Ann Carpenter, age 81, of Ridgewood Road, passed away, Monday morning, July 30, 2001 in Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls.
She was born on September 22, 1919 in Buffalo, daughter of the late Marguerite Bentley Lindner.
Rosemary was raised in Dunkirk, where she graduated from Dunkirk High School.
She furthered her studies at SUNY-Fredonia, graduating with a degree in elementary education and music.
On June 19, 1948, she married Leo Charles Carpenter in Dunkirk, a loving union of fifty-one years, until his passing on August 19, 1999.
Mrs. Carpenter taught 5th grade and music in Herkimer public schools from 1942 to 1948.
She and her husband then moved to Wyoming, where she worked in the Library at the University of Wyoming, while her husband completed his Master's Degree.
In 1957, they moved to Colorado, where she studied librarianship at the University of Denver.
After her husband's retirement in 1984, they returned to Herkimer.
Mrs. Carpenter was artistically-gifted, both as a pianist and artist.
Music was an important part of her life.
She had a strong belief in God and lived a devoted Catholic life.
She was a member of the Church of Saints Anthony & Joseph, Herkimer.
Surviving are her loving daughter, Nancy Carpenter-Paul; two grandchildren, Matthew and Laura Bebo all of Bailey, CO.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Lindner, in 1985.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph.
The Reverend Robert Shinos, pastor, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Ruth J. Casadonte
HERKIMER - Ruth J. Casadonte, 87, of 104 North Washington Street, formerly of Creek Road, Mohawk, passed away on Sunday evening, January 28, 2001 in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on August 27, 1913 in Utica, daughter of the late Harry and Rita Bond Vincent.
A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of Herkimer High School.
On March 6, 1934, she married Robert W. Casadonte in the Newport Methodist Church, a blessed union of sixty-four years, until his passing on December 6, 1998.
Ruth s life was devoted to her home and family.
She was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church Herkimer.
Surviving her are three sons and their wives; Pete and Carole Casadonte of Newville, James and Rosemary Casadonte of Herkimer, Robert B. and Sandra Casadonte of Croswell, MI, a daughter; Lynn Mushen of Mohawk, one sister, Doris Richards of VA, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a special nephew whom she raised, David Lockwood, and his wife, Nancy of Whitesboro, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband, Robert, a daughter, Nancy Steffen, in July of 2000, and a sister, Mary Lockwood Brocke, preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held later this spring in Oak Hill Cemetery at a time to be announced.

Helen Clements
Ilion - Helen Clements, age 71, joined hands with her Savior and entered the gates of heaven on Monday, December 10, 2001.
She was born on June 13, 1930, in Richfield Springs, and was loving raised by her parents, Frances and Joseph Kaminski.
A life-long area resident, she was raised and educated in Richfield Springs, where she resided until 1989.
On June 4, 1949, she married Lewis Clements, Jr. in Richfield Springs, a union of 23 years, until his passing on August 14, 1972.
Helen's life was devoted to caring for her family; she was the strength that they leaned on and was happiest when surrounded by her family and friends.
Her gentle nature and caring smile will always be remembered.
She especially enjoyed her leisure time joining her friends at Prindle Apartments in various activities, among them bingo and going on trips with the 'Good News Group'.
She is survived by her loving children, Karen A. Willsey and her boyfriend, Lawrence S. Pavese of Utica, Bonnie L. Legg of Little Falls, Arthur D. and his wife, Deborah D. Clements, of Springfield Center, Phillip J. Clements of League City, TX, Lisa M. Flatt and her husband, William, of Fort Knox, KY, Jackie Ward and her husband, Matthew, of Ilion; nineteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Richfield Springs.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive family and friends on Thursday from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
