Margaret Cramer Dickens

BALDWINSVILLE - Margaret Cramer Dickens, age 84, of 7740 Meigs Road, formerly of Bellinger Avenue, Herkimer, passed away on Friday afternoon, July 20, 2001 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.

She was born on September 12, 1916 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Morand and Nellie Heffron Cramer.

Mrs. Dickens was raised in Herkimer and graduated Herkimer High School.

She furthered her education at the Faxton School of Nursing, Utica, where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse.

For fifteen years, she practiced nursing at the Folts Home in Herkimer, retiring in 1980.

On October 19, 1943 she married Earl Dickens in Florida, a loving union of twenty-three years until his passing on July 25, 1967.

Her leisure time interests included playing cards, knitting, crocheting and ceramics.

To her family, she was the strength that held them together and will always be remembered as a loving, caring person.

Surviving her are two sons; William and James Dickens both of Liverpool, a sister; Mary Purdon of Ilion, three grandchildren; Tiffany Margaret Dickens, William James "BJ" Dickens both of Liverpool and Victor William Malambri of Michias, a niece, two nephews and several cousins.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Malambri, in 1994.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.

The Reverend William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, will officiate.

Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Center of Central New York would be appreciated.

Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Bernard John "B.J." Dillon

MIDDLEVILLE - Bernard John "B.J." Dillon, 55, of Fairfield St., Middleville, passed away Dec. 26, 2001, with his family by his side, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, after a courageous battle with a glioblastoma brain tumor.

He was born Sept. 29, 1946, in Herkimer, a son of the late John Francis and Anita Thuot Dillon.

He was raised and educated in Herkimer, and graduated Herkimer High School, "class of 1964."

Upon completion of his education, he enlisted with the U.S. Navy and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam conflict, serving on the USS Forrestal and the USS Kittyhawk.

He was honorably discharged in 1968.

On May 1, 1976, B.J. was united in marriage to Linda Engert in St. Francis de Sales Church.

He was employed by the New York State Thruway Authority as a light equipment operator.

He was a devout Catholic and active parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer.

He will be remembered for his love of his family and the serenity of nature.

B.J. is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Linda; three beloved daughters, Meghan, Kathryn and Kelly Dillon, all of the home address; one sister, Kathleen Reilly; a brother, Michael Dillon, both of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; cherished aunts and uncles, Julie and Bob Lasowski, Betty and Harrison Hummel; cousins, Marianne and Danny Stalteri, Chip and Judy Hummel, Carol and James Aufmuth, Mary Ann and Chet Fiato, Colleen and Brian Folgherait, Michael and Sharon Manion, John and Linda Manion, Denise Kerkovich and David and Lois Edwards; his in-laws, the Engert family; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1951, his mother in 1992, and his grandparents, Homer and Annette Thuot, who with his mother helped raise him.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, at 10 a.m., in St. Francis de Sales Church, with the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

The family will be present in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, to receive relatives and friends on Friday, from 4-8 p.m.

The family requests that contributions in memory of B.J. be made to St. Francis de Sales Parish.

Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

B.J.'s family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to Dr. Clifford Soults, the nurses and staff of Intensive Care Unit, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, for all the care and kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.

They also extend their heartfelt gratitude to his devout friends, Craig and Skeeter Gros, Father Mark Cunningham, the faculty and staff of St. Francis school and parish, co-workers at the New York State Thruway Authority, friends at Herkimer County Community College, and so many other friends and neighbors who offered their support during our time of need.

Ann C. Drew

Herkimer - Anna C. Drew, 95, of 315 North Prospect Street, died on Friday afternoon in Folts Homes after an extended illness.

She was born on March 13, 1906 in Utica, daughter of the late William and Eva Fulmer Dillon.

She was educated in Utica, where she graduated high school.

On April 18, 1926, she married William Matthews.

They had two sons, Donald and William.

Her marriage to Orville L. Drew took place on July 24, 1946, in Albany.

The moved to Herkimer at that time and shared a loving and devoted relationship of 43 years, until his passing on October 3, 1989.

She worked as a salesperson for Woolworth's in Herkimer, retiring in 1968.

Anna was a person who enjoyed helping people.

She shared her love and friendship in countless ways.

She would run errands for a sick neighbor, cook a meal, or just be there to offer encouragement when needed.

She will always be remembered as a loving, caring and helpful person.

Surviving are two sons, Donald E. Matthews of Utica, William J. and his wife, Phyllis Matthews, of Apache Junction, AZ; seven grandchildren, Jeannie Matthews, Donald Matthews, Jr., Deborah Mossici, William, Timothy, Tamara and Thomas Matthews thirteen great-grandchildren, several nieces, and nephews.

Besides her husband, Orville, four brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, at 2:00 p.m. in Mohawk Cemetery.

Fr. Mark Cunningham of Saint Francis deSales Church will officiate.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.

June Farrington

HERKIMER - June Farrington, age 75, of Ridgewood Road, passed away, Monday morning, December 31, 2001 in her home.

She was born on March 27, 1926, in Liberty, daughter of the late Charles and Jessie Bishop Francisco.

She graduated from St. Lawrence University.

On October 21, 1950, she married Robert Farrington in Liberty.

They have resided in Middleville and Herkimer since the 1950's.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, and a member of Evening Star Valley Chapter #82 O.E.S.

Surviving besides her husband of fifty-one years, Robert, are one son, Robert Farrington, Jr., of Winston Salem, NC; two daughters, Jill Robertson of Franklin NC, Robin Cook and her husband, David, of Wilbraham, MA; a brother, Charles and his wife Catherine Francisco of North Fort Myers, FL; four grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home Inc., Herkimer.
