HERKIMER - Brayton E. Hotaling "Bud", age 60, of Park Avenue, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2001 in St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, with his loving family at his side.
He was born on November 11, 1940 in Albany, son of the late Brayton E. and Helen Weber Hotaling.
Bud was raised and educated in Albany.
In 1958, he joined the United States Marine Corp., where he proudly served until his honorable discharge in 1961.
On October 28, 1967, he married Emma L. Smith in Arlington, VA.
In 1968, they came to Herkimer, where he was employed by Mohawk Data Sciences for twenty-one years.
More recently, he worked for the Burns Security Agency at Utica College until retiring in 1999.
He was a member of American Legion Post # 0001.
He will always be remembered for his good sense of humor and the love he had for his family and friends.
Surviving, besides his devoted wife of thirty-three years, Emma, are a son; Robert Hotaling and his fianc e', Melissa Beth Cotton of Mount Airy, NC, a daughter; Deborah Ann Hotaling of Herkimer, three sisters; Judy and her husband, Robert Payne, of Cohoes, Geraldine Gardy of Albany, Margaret Restifo of Valatie, several nieces, nephews and his special in-laws and their families; Robert and Mary Lee Smith, Keith Smith, Harold and Clinton Smith, Lucille and Don Pingilley, Wanda and Tom Hoy, JoAnn Smith, Carol and Dan Mathison, Mary Hotaling and special friend Tom Hoffman.
Besides his parents, a brother, John Hotaling, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be on Monday at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, with the Reverend William Otis, pastor, officiating.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM in FENNER FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Foundation.

Pauline Jenison
HERKIMER - Pauline Jenison, age 90, of 104 North Washington Street, formerly of 407 North Bellinger Street, passed away on Sunday afternoon September 9, 2001 in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on April 14, 1911 in Clinton, daughter of the late Judd and Nellie Spoor Jones.
Her family moved to Herkimer in 1914 where she has resided since.
She was a graduate of Herkimer High School.
On August 28, 1930, she married George E. Jenison in the Herkimer United Methodist Church, a loving and devoted union of fifty years until his passing on September 25, 1980.
For many years, Pauline worked for the Montgomery Ward Store Herkimer in the Catalog Department and as a Sales Clerk, retiring in 1970.
To all that knew her, they will remember her smile.
She had a strong love for the outdoors and was a former member of the Coachman's Club, where she and her husband went on many camping trips.
Pauline will always be remembered as a loving and caring person.
She was a member of the Valley Evening Star Chapter #82 Order of the Eastern Star, the Amaranth as well as doing volunteer work for the Herkimer Memorial Hospital.
She had a strong belief in God and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, and the United Methodist Women.
She was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family.
Surviving are her son, Edward, and his wife, Ruth Jenison, of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Phyllis and her husband, Thomas Shearer, of Northville; seven grandchildren, George Jenison, Martha Efird and Eric Jenison, all of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Shearer of Cheyenne, WY, Richard Shearer of Galway, Daniel Shearer of Annapolis, MD, and Pamela Junquera of Scotia, eleven great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and one cousin, Dorothy Doer, of Florida, formerly of East Herkimer.
Besides her parents and husband a brother, Ross Jones, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will take place on Friday at 11:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer.
The Reverend William Otis, pastor, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, on Thursday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM.
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church Herkimer Memorial Fund.

Elsie H. Kinney
MOHAWK - Elsie H. Kinney, 102, of 62 East Main Street, and formerly of 320 Gray Street, Herkimer, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 31, 2001 in the Mohawk Homestead, Mohawk.
She was born on May 10, 1898 in Herkimer, daughter of the late Webster and Delia Ertman Harter.
A life-long area resident, she was raised in Herkimer and was a graduate of Herkimer High School "Class of 1917".
On September 4, 1942, she married Harry V. Kinney in Herkimer, a blessed union of over twenty years until his passing on February 26, 1963.
From 1925 to 1945, Mrs. Kinney was a Title Examiner for Central New York Abstract Corp., and for 18 years, had worked as a court officer for Herkimer County, retiring in 1981 at the age of 83.
In 1993, she moved to the Mohawk Homestead, where she made many friends with both residents and staff.
She was a member of the Herkimer Reformed Church.
She had a strong love for the outdoors and gardening and was an honorary member of the Herkimer Garden Club.
Surviving her are three nieces; Eileen O Bryan of Herkimer, Ruth French of Ilion, Grace Jones of West Winfield, two nephews; Earl (Mike) Rivers and Leo Rivers both of Herkimer, several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister; Reba Rivers, one niece; Pauline Braren and a nephew; Donald Rivers.
Funeral service will take place in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer, on Friday evening at 7:00 PM.
The Reverend Donald Battjes, pastor of the Herkimer Reformed, will officiate.
The family will be present to receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the funeral service from 6:00 to 7:00 PM.
Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery will be later this spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the Herkimer Reformed Church Memorial Fund.

Rose Lyga
HERKIMER - Rose M. Ingerham Lyga of 325 Eastern Avenue, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2001 in Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on February 13, 1939 in Ilion, daughter of the late William and Rose Tamburro Ingerham.
A lifelong area resident, she was educated in Frankfort Schools.
On March 3, 1957, she married John Lyga in Herkimer.
Mr. Lyga preceded her in death on May 9, 1998.
Rose was once employed as a waitress for Dan Dee Donuts in Herkimer.
Surviving her are a daughter; Kate and her husband, Mike McCarthy, of Atlanta, GA, three sons; John and his wife, Laurie Lyga, of NC, Christopher Lyga of Nashville, TN, Shawn Lyga of Herkimer, five grandchildren; Callahan and Cooper McCarthy, Steven and Allyson Lyga, Zachary Lyga, seven brothers and six sister-in-laws; William and Betty Ingerham, Donald and Dorothy Ingerham, Anthony and Kathleen Ingerham all of Herkimer, Charles and Betty Ingerham of Mohawk, Thomas and Jackie Ingerham of Frankfort, three sisters and two brother-in-laws; Dolores Edick and her companion, Skip Smith, Nancy and Kenneth Krouse, Woody Mason, Katherine Ingerham, all of Herkimer, three aunts, Anna, Nancy and Fannie Tamburro of Frankfort.
Two special nieces and nephews Elizabeth Reaves and Ronald Williams, Laurie and Gary Czarnecki, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Joanne Mason predeceased her.
Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer with the Reverend Alfred Lamanna officiating.
Interment will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery later this spring.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
