HERKIMER - Paul Kolarik, 89, of Eureka Avenue, passed away unexpectedly Monday evening, June 18, 2001, in his home.
He was born March 20, 1912, in Yonkers, son of the late John and Katerina Duga Kolarik.
A lifelong Herkimer resident, he was a graduate of Herkimer High School.
He played with the Herkimer Rangers, a semi-professional baseball team, in the 1930s.
On April 16, 1932, he married Anna DeKanek in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer, a devoted union of 56 years until her passing on Sept. 25, 1988.
An honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran, he served our country during World War II.
Mr. Kolarik worked as an assembler and tester for the Remington Arms Company, retiring in 1975.
He was s member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Herkimer, and a former member of Herkimer Lodge 1439 B.P.O.E.
Surviving him are one son, Paul J. and his wife, Elizabeth Kolarik, of Little Lake Harbor, N.J.; a sister, Anne Klimacek of Clinton; three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer.
The Rev. Dale Dickerson, pastor of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, one hour prior to the funeral service (1 to 2 p.m.)
Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Frank E. Miles
HERKIMER - Frank Ensign Miles, age 87, of North Prospect Street, passed away on Saturday November 10, 2001, in Valley Health Services, Inc.
He was born on June 15, 1914, in Adams Center, NY, son of the late Willis and Adelaide Boomer Miles.
Frank and his family moved to Remsen, when he was at an early age.
He father was a telegrapher for the New York Central Railroad.
Frank was a graduate of Remsen High School and went on to graduate from Schenectady Technical Institute.
In 1941, he married Lois Davis, they had a daughter, Jean Louise Miles.
Lois Davis Miles died in 1944.
Jean Louise passed away from Multiple Sclerosis in 1992.
In 1947, he married Louise Palmer, a loving and devoted union of fifty-four years.
They had one son, Frank Palmer Miles.
Frank was a service manager for the Smith Corona Company in Utica, retiring in 1972.
Since his retirement, he has resided in Florida, during the winter months.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, a fifty-year plus member of Herkimer Lodge #423 F. & A. M..
His other memberships in Masonic bodies included the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Egypt Temple Shrine, Tampa, FL, the Lakeland, Florida Shrine Club.
Frank clowned as "Bashful" for the Shrine Children's Hospitals.
Lakeland, FL is the winter home of the Detroit Tigers Baseball Team; he, along with other Shriners, worked the concession stand to raise money for the hospitals.
He will always be remembered as a kind, gentle man and will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
Surviving are his wife and best friend of fifty-four years, Louise, a son and his wife; Frank Palmer and Doris Baum Miles of Seattle, WA, one brother and his wife; Wesley Llewellyn and his wife, Dorothy Miles, a grandson, Alexander Baum Miles, several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, his first wife, Lois, and their daughter, Jean Louise, he was preceded in death by a sister, Adelaide Lennox.
A service in memory of both Frank and his daughter, Jean Louise, will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer.
The Reverend William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday morning from 10:00 until 11:00 AM.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation for the excellent care and support given to both Frank and Louise at Valley Health Services.
This includes Medical Staff, Nursing Staff, Dietary and Housekeeping.
Their gratefulness can never be adequately expressed.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospitals.

Bernard Leon Miller
COLD BROOK -- Bernard L. Miller, 82, of Skinner Road, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2001, in his home after a long illness with his loving family by his side.
He was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Fairfield, son of the late Leon and Bertha Olds Miller.
A lifelong area resident, he was raised and educated in Fairfield.
During World War II, Bernie answered the call of his country by joining the U.S. Army Air Force.
He served with the 2500th Division, attaining the rank of sergeant.
He was honorably discharged in February of 1946.
In September of 1947, he married Myrtle "Freda" Fralick in Vermont.
For over 40 years, he was employed by Sperry Rand Univac as a machinist, retiring in 1974.
A resident of Cold Brook, since 1970, he came here from the Stratford-Hinckley area.
Bernie was a caring husband, devoted father and grandfather.
He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family, especially his grandchildren.
He loved animals, most of all his dog Jake.
He had a keen interest in cars and loved his Cadillacs.
His leisure time was spent drinking coffee at the Blue Rose Restaurant.
He will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving, besides his wife of 40 years, Freda, are their daughter, Judy Sommer, and her husband, Charles, of Herkimer; a brother, Thomas Miller and his companion, Connie, of Florida; one sister, Beverly and her husband, Robert Smith; seven grandchildren, Robert and his wife, Carolyn, Sharie and her husband, Michael, Bernie and his wife, Kelly, Mark and his wife, Tina, Danyel and her fiance', John, John and his wife, Tracy, and Becky and her husband, Scot; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A brother, Robert Miller, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer.

Interment with full military honors being accorded will follow in Fairview Cemetery of Graysville.
