SALISBURY CENTER — Mr. Kenneth M. Humphrey, 78, of 291 State Route 29A, Salisbury Center, died Wednesday, April 5, 2000, at his residence after a brief illness. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Dibble-Tuttle Cemetery on the Emmonsburg Road, town of Salisbury, with the Rev. Robert Jeffers, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Salisbury Center, officiating. There are no calling hours. Memorials in his name may be sent to the Herkimer County Hospice Program, 301 N. Kathleen T. Keller
ST. JOHNSVILLE — Kathleen T. Keller, 78, of Midtown Estates, St. Johnsville, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Little Falls Hospital.
She was born Nov. 7, 1921, in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late Howard Keller and Teresa Haggerty-Hayes. Kathleen was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School, class of 1939, and was a lifelong resident of the St. Johnsville area.
Kathleen was owner and operator of Kay's Second Hand Store in Fort Plain for 10 years, retiring in 1982. At one time she worked for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for many years.
Miss Keller was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include her cousins, Catherine May and husband Howard of Northville, Jeanette (Jean) Van Valkenburg of St. Johnsville, and George Haggerty and wife Marilyn of Fort Plain.
In keeping with Kathleen's wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, April 10, 2000, at 10 a.m. from the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home with Sister Dolores Stevens of St. Patrick's Church officiating. Interment will follow in West St. Johnsville Cemetery. All memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Marie J. Graham
HERKIMER — Mrs. Marie J. Graham, 84, of 104 North Washington St., Herkimer, (Folts Home), passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 5, 2000.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, on Friday, April 7, from 5-8 p.m. The ladies of the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post 4915 Auxiliary of Herkimer are respectfully asked to gather at the funeral home on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. to pay their respects as a group.
On Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. the family will gather at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer. The Rev. Peter Nabozny, pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer, will offer prayers at the grave. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the graveside service.
Marie was preceded in death by her son, Richard Graham; her grandson, Robert Graham; her sister, Dorothy Bennett, and a brother, Robert Peliter.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and was well-liked for her ability to make others around her happy. Marie is survived by her beloved family including her three daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Youker of Herkimer, JoAnne Maine along with her husband, Alan, of Richfield Springs, and Bonnie Perry of Herkimer; four sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth Graham along with his wife, Joan of Virginia Beach, William Graham along with his wife, Darlie, of Little Rock, Ark., Donald Graham along with his wife, Judy, of Chesapeake, Va., and Thomas Graham along with his wife, Donna, of Mohawk; 18 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Mary Peliter of Mohawk and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Born on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1915, in Ilion, Marie was the daughter of the late Pete and Dora (Moore) Peliter. She received her education in Ilion schools, and had been a lifelong resident of this area. On Feb. 16, 1933, Marie joined in marriage with Joseph K. Graham in Ilion. The couple had shared in a blessed union of over 61 years of marriage together. Mr. Graham passed away on May 12, 1994. Marie attended St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. She was a lifetime member of the Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post 4915 Auxiliary of Herkimer. She also was a proud Goldstar Mother an honor bestowed upon her by the VFW as a result of her son Richard's dedication and service to our country during the Vietnam War.

Kathryn R. Tiel
MOHAWK — Kathryn R. Tiel, 85, of 24 E. Center St., Mohawk, passed away on Tuesday morning, April 4, 2000, at Faxton Hospital in Utica.
In respect to Kathryn's wishes, cremation has taken place under the guidance of the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer. There were no public calling hours. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a graveside memorial service in her honor on Friday, April 7, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer. Prayers at the grave will be offered by the Rev. Robert Shinos pastor of the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph in Herkimer.
Kathryn was born on Dec. 8, 1914, in Herkimer, the daughter of the late George A. and Laura V. (Perrin) Ruff. She received her education in Herkimer schools, and had resided the greater part of her life in the Herkimer area. She attended the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Baldwin, and a brother, George Ruff Jr.
She is survived by her son, Samuel R. LiBritz of Clay; two daughters, Lynn Jean Cave of Ilion, and Mary Anne Thuma and her husband David of Cooperstown; one sister, Betty Wildey of Herkimer; two grandchildren, Sarah Cave and William Cave, and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, Herkimer.
Joseph A. Lamanna
LILLIAN, Ala. — Mr. Joseph A. Lamanna, 72, of 1401 W. Ridgewood Drive, Lillian, Ala., passed away on Monday, April 3, 2000, at the West Florida Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, Fla.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, on Friday evening, April 7, from 6-8 p.m. The family will also be present at the funeral home on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the beginning of prayer. Contributions in honor of Joseph may be considered to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes may be obtained from the Enea Funeral Home.
His funeral will commence with full military honors on Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. from the Enea Funeral Home with Rev. Alfred A. Lamanna, cousin of Joseph, officiating. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where interment will take place. Full military rites will be offered by the U.S. Army.
Joseph was born on Sept. 4, 1927, in Little Falls, the son of the late Joseph and Christina (Visconti) Lamanna. He had attended Little Falls schools. At one time he had worked with the H.P. Snyder Manufacturing Company, along with the Melrose Slipper Company, both formerly located in Little Falls. Joe lived for over 39 years in the Lima, Ohio, area, where he had been employed as a mail clerk with the U.S. Post Office.
On Oct. 1, 1951, Joe was joined in marriage with Cece Hyman in Columbus, Ohio. Throughout the 48 years of their union, each of them was the other's best friend. The commitment and devotion which they shared was an inspiration to all who knew them. It was only a week ago that the couple renewed their marital vows, something that was so very special to Cece. In 1994, the couple relocated to Alabama. Joe was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served our country with the U.S. Army. He enlisted on Jan. 3, 1949, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 25, 1951. Upon relief from active duty, Joe held the rank of corporal. As a result of his courageous dedication to our country, Joe was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rose Francisco, and Angie Colangelo, along with his four brothers, Pat, Rocco, Anthony and Louis Lamanna.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Cece; his daughter, Cece VanEss and her husband, Peter of Milan, Illinois; one grandson, James VanEss along with his wife, Jan, stationed at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Nancy Yacobucci of Palatine Bridge, and Mary Maneen of Ilion; a brother, Larry Lamanna and his wife, Mary of Little Falls, and a sister-in-law, Rose Lamanna of Little Falls, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joe was always concerned for the well being of his wife, daughter, grandson and family. He dedicated himself unselfishly to tending to their needs. He was a pillar of support for them, and his strength and character were never more evident than during his recent illness. He will be dearly missed.
John T. Guyer Sr.
MOHAWK — Mr. John T. Guyer Sr., 64, of 428 Swift Road, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2000, in his residence with his loving family by his side. His funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. His funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewcz, Iocovozzi and Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer.
Walter E. Miller
DOLGEVILLE — Walter E. Miller, 83, of 45 Elm St., Dolgeville, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was born June 1, 1916, in Salisbury Center, the son of Ernest and Lela (Davis) Miller.
He was graduate of Dolgeville High School, class of 1934, and Utica College of Syracuse University, class of 1963, and did graduate work at Oneonta State Teacher's College.
Walter was employed at Remington Arms in Ilion for almost 20 years and attended Utica College nights, while continuing his day work at the Arms. He was a retired teacher from St. Johnsville Central School where he taught social studies and economics from 1963, until his retirement in 1977.
From 1950-1957, he opened Miller's Market in Salisbury Center which was run by his brother Herman Miller.
He was a natural musician playing the piano, saxophone, guitar, and he was considered one of the best banjo players in the area. He had his own band for several years, and played with other bands playing his banjo for square dances and his saxophone for round dances.
He entertained at nursing homes both in the Mohawk Valley and in Florida.
His hobby was woodworking and he made beautiful clocks from raw cyprus for relatives and friends.
He was a former 25 year member of the Salisbury Center Grange where he served on the men's degree team, and an exempt member of the Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department.
He is a current member of the Little Falls Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge on Kissimmee, Fla.
Mr. Miller served with the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of petty officer third class in March 1946.
As a young man he was superintendent of the Universalist Sunday school in Salisbury Center, and after moving to Dolgeville, was superintendent of the Presbyterian Sunday school and also served on the church sessions.
He was married to Majorie Bogerd on May 31, 1941, in the Dolgeville Universalist Church. The ceremony was performed by the Reverend Clinton A. Moulton.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Majorie; his children, Sharon Daley and husband Douglas of Dolgeville, Larry Miller and wife Rhonda of Kissimmee, Fla., Sheila Lay and husband James of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Shelley Christensen and husband Robert of Webster, Mass.; three granddaughters, Dr. Shay Daley and husband attorney Randy Williams of Dayton, Ind., Constance Tooly and husband Clark of Florence, South Carolina, and Jessica Kaufman of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandsons, David Miller and wife Cathy of Webster, N.Y., Harold Luther and wife Heidi of Cary, N.C., Ryan Luther of Lowell, Ma., Aaron Kaufman of Charlotte, N.C., and Mackenzie Christensen of Webster, Ma.; five great-granddaughters, Colleen, Ashley and Amber Miller of Webster, N.Y., Rachel Williams of Dayton, Ind., and Elizabeth Tooly of Florence, South Carolina; three great-grandsons, Ryan Miller of Webster, N.Y., Sam Williams of Dayton, Ind., and Alexander Tooly of Florence, S.C.; one cousin, Marian Porter of Dolgeville and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Herman, in 1993.
In keeping with Walter's wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Dolgeville United Lutheran Presbyterian Parish, East Faville Street, with Reverend David Blank, officiating. Anna L. Miller
DOLGEVILLE — Anna L. Miller, 91, formerly of 202 East State St., Dolgeville, and since June of 1999 a resident of the Folts Home, Herkimer, passed away Friday, March 31, 2000 at Little Falls Hospital.
She was born on March 16, 1909 in the town of Manheim, daughter of the late Frederick and Fannie (Smith) Miller. She was a graduate of Dolgeville High School, class of 1927. She was also a graduate of Oneonta Normal School and Albany School of Nursing.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville.
Miss Miller taught school in the town of Salisbury for one year following her graduation from Oneonta and then entered the Albany School of Nursing. Upon her graduation as a registered nurse, she entered the U.S. Army, entering the service on May 17, 1941, where she served as a member of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. At the end of the war, she continued her military career as a nurse, serving in several military hospitals in the United States. In 1957, she was sent to the U.S. Army Hospital in Munich, Germany where she remained until she was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army at the rank of major in 1964. Following her discharge from active duty, she continued to work at the U.S. Military Hospital in Munich until her final retirement from nursing in 1970 when she returned to the United States.
She is survived by two brothers, Harold G. Miller of Dolgeville and Edward S. Miller of Folts Home, Herkimer; two nieces, Martha Mamrosch of Dolgeville and Esther Paddock of Boonville, as well as several great-nieces, nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews and many cousins. Mrs. Miller was predeceased by a brother, Howard Miller who died on Jan. 12, 1976, and a sister, Dorothy Miller who died on April 2, 1997.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 4, at 1 p.m. from St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville, with the Reverend Leo Potvin officiating. Interment will take place in St. Bridget's Cemetery, town of Salisbury.
Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. There are no calling hours.

Mildred McKinzie Wester
ST. JOHNSVILLE — Mildred McKinzie Wester, 77, of St. Johnsville Nursing Home, formerly of 326 Lansing St., Herkimer, died Friday, March 31, 2000, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer, with the Rev. William Otis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, New Hartford. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. Memorial donations made be made to Bassett Health care Center, Herkimer. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Earl F. Hughes Jr.
HERKIMER — Earl F. Hughes Jr., 62, of 611 Church St., Herkimer, passed away on Friday, March 31, 2000, at Little Falls Hospital.
He was born May 27, 1937, in Herkimer, the son of the late Earl F. Hughes, Sr. and Catherine (Mahardy) Hughes. Earl was educated in Herkimer and lived all his life in the Herkimer area.
His marriage to Mary Macrina took place on May 17, 1958, at St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer.
Mr. Hughes was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was enlisted on Dec. 8, 1955, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 1, 1957, with the rank of SP 3(T).
Earl was last employed at Fermer Precision in Cedarville for four years. At one time he worked as a local woodworker for 35 years.
With family as his foremost priority, Earl proved himself to be a loving, caring and devoted man whose major concern was fulfilling the needs of his wife and children. In his leisure, Earl enjoyed the skill of woodworking which brought him much relaxation. In his spare time he was a NASCAR enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary; two sons, Rick Hughes and wife Valerie of Georgetown, Ky., and Chris Hughes and wife Cindy of Pittsburgh, Pa; a daughter, Mary Ann Clark and husband Damon of Herkimer; a brother, Larry Hughes and wife Jan of Chester, Virginia; a granddaughter, Stacey Price of Herkimer and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a very special friend, Joseph DePalma.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathleen Marie Hughes in 1966.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 4, at 8:45 a.m. from the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer and at 9:30 a.m. from the Church of Sts. Anthony and Joseph, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Reverend Robert Shinos, pastor. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Monday, April 3, from 6-8 p.m.
Olga Sullivan
HERKIMER — Mrs. Olga Sullivan, 85, a longtime resident of Bellinger Avenue in Herkimer, passed away on Friday morning, March 31, 2000, at the Valley Health Services in Herkimer.
She was born on April 9, 1914, in McKees Rock, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Melnishyn) Krutz. She received her education in the Dolgeville-Salisbury area, and later went on to attend schools in Herkimer. On January 26, 1943, Olga joined in marriage with Jeremiah Sullivan in Herkimer. The couple had shared in a blessed union of over 27 years of marriage. Mr. Sullivan passed away on February 14, 1970. Olga was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer. She at one time had worked with the former Herkimer Hospital, and was last employed with Remington Arms in Ilion as an assembler. As a result of her working career, Olga obtained memberships with the Remington Arms Employee Association and the Remington Retirees Club. Ogla devoted herself to her family and in her free time enjoyed reading, bingo and playing cards.
She is survived by her family, including her children, Mary Elizabeth Sullivan of Albany, Veronica Sportello and her husband, Louis, of Herkimer, Jerry Sullivan and his wife, Pam, of Ilion, Maureen Harrer and her husband, Joe, of East Herkimer, and Patricia Sutch and her special friend, Ted Girolamo, of Utica; one sister, Ludmilla Swietlikowski and her husband, Leo, of Herkimer; one brother, Leo Krutz and his wife, Mary, of Utica; her grandchildren, Kathleen Kurdziolak, Jerry Sullivan Jr., Louis Sportello, Larry Sportello, Michael Sportello, Joe Harrer, Jim Harrer and Jason Harrer, and David and Matthew Sutch; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins; her in-laws, Lydia Krutz of Little Falls and Frank Kelley of Middleville and her bingo buddies who were very special to Olga, Mary Howe, Cindy Howe, Carol DePalma and Madeline Ahern.
Olga was preceded in death by her sister, Anna Thomas, and her brothers, Michael and Edward Krutz.
