Bernadette Scully Weir died in Hialeah, Florida on November 4, 2010. Two months after being feted at a dinner party celebrating her ninetieth birthday. A graduate of The College of New Rochelle (41), Bernadette, a librarian, retired from the City of Hialeah - Library Services. She was the daughter of Kathryn (Queally) and Myles Scully. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Weir, three brothers, Bernard, Rev. Bertrand Scully, O.F.M. Capuchin, and Rev. Bede Scully, O.F.M. Capuchin, and her loving sisters, Kathleen (Michael) Dohan and Clare (Martin) O'Hara, and a stepdaughter, Suzanne Michaelson. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Fran Weir, and her companion, Walter Smith (Otisville) and many grand and great-grandchildren, and devoted friends, Ellen and Kenneth Krasnow. A Classy lady, Bernadette always dressed with style. She was an avid reader with a grand command of the English language. She had many devoted friends and enjoyed the social and religious activities, memberships and luncheons, nurtured by these associations. A cat person, she always promoted their well being, and that of all animals. A funeral Mass was held in Hialeah, Florida. BLAIR, HELEN JOHNSEN
Helen Johnsen Blair, 90, of Ossining, NY and formerly of Ramsey, NJ and Herndon, VA, died on September 11 at Phelps Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She resided for the last six years at the Bethel Nursing Home in Ossining, where she had many friends. She was born on November 4, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York to Olive and Nils Johnsen. She had a quick mind, a wonderful sense of humor , and exhibited a concern for others and a healthy curiosity that kept her sharp until the day she died. She loved all things Norwegian, Strauss waltzes, Irish music and antiques. She was devoted to her large and growing family and viewed every day as a gift. Helen was predeceased by her beloved Husband, Harry Blair , to whom she was married for 35 years and is survived by her son, James Blair and his Wife, Elaine, of Ossining, daughters Arlene McFarlin, of Manassas, VA and Deborah Kamins and her Husband Mitchell of Herndon, VA, and one sister, Dorothy Albers, of Pompton Lakes, NJ. She had nine loving grandchildren, Jonathan Blair, Juliet (Blair) Klein, Scott, Christopher, Matthew, Kathleen and Daniel Bowman, Jacob and Sarah Kamins, three great grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas and Anthony Bowman and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. BROPHY, FRANCIS A.
Francis Augustine Brophy, 92, of Stony Point, NY, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2010 with his family by his side. He was born December 18, 1917 in Grassy Point, NY to Michael Francis and Julia Plunkett Brophy. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years and served as the Post Master in Stony Point for 32 years retiring in 1980. He was a member of the Rockland County Post Masters Association; a lifelong and devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church and a former director and active member of the Stony Point Ambulance Corp. Francis was active in local government affairs and served as Deputy Supervisor under then Supervisor John Shankey. Survivors include two daughters, Regina and her spouse, Thomas Sullivan; Judith and her spouse, Alfred Carlson, one son, Patrick M. and his spouse, Mary. One daughter-in-law, Susan Brophy, 14 Grand and 15 Great-grandchildren. Francis is also survived by one Brother Joseph E. Brophy, three sisters Catherine Zariello, Mary Goodman and Julia Miller as well as one sister-in-law, Kathleen Brophy and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was lovingly cared for by his aides, Rose, Natasha, Madrene and Orchid. Francis was predeceased by his Wife, Regina Berean Brophy in 2002. He was also preceded in death by three sons: Francis E.; Michael an d Emmett, Brothers Patrick F., Vincent, James and Richard and sisters, Mary and Ann. Family and friends may call at the Edward C. David McLeod Bruce was born in Port Chester, NY on May 10, 1937 to Amy and James Bruce. He passed away at Northern Westchester Hospital on September 13, 2010 at the age of 73. he was raised in Mount Vernon , NY and graduated from Edison H.S. He attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Dave worked at IBM in Armonk as a Tech Specialist for thirty years. He enjoyed fishing and gardening at his home in Armonk and spent winters in Tequesta, Florida with his devoted wife Marion (nee DiLorenzo). He is survived by his daughter Laurie Ashworth and three grandchildren, Amy, Andrew and Alexandria Belotti. He is also survived by his loving sister-in-law and brother-in-law , Olga and Harry Osgerchian; and nieces and nephews and many many friends. Peter M. Cassels, 71, of Carmel, NY died on September 12, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Cassels was born on April 8, 1939 to Peter and Mary (Coyle) Cassels in NYC. On February 16, 1957, he married Kathleen Smullen in NYC. Mr. Cassels was an active member of the following; Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Carmel NY, NYC St. Patrick's Day Parade Chairman of the Reviewing Area for the past 45 years; and was past President for 15 years of the MABSTOA Emerald Society. Mr. Cassels was the General Superintendent of MABSTOA before his retirement in 1991. He is survived by his beloved Wife Kay, his five loving children; Peter, Michael, Kathy, Martin and Vincent, his brother, William, five sisters, and eight adoring grandchildren. Josephine T. DiPasquale of Bardonia died on September 12, 2010. She was 70. Josephine was born April 3, 1940 in Yonkers, NY to Michael and Joanna (Kumiega) Gurka. She had lived in Bardonia for 45 years prior Yonkers. Josephine is survived by her son, David Jr. of Bardonia, daughter Josephine of New Paltz, and a brother Donald Gurka. William J. Genovese a resident of Del Ray Beach, FL. and formerly of Port Chester died September 11, 2010. He was 87 and was born July 20, 1923 in Port Chester to the late Savino and Ginetta Scarzo Genovese. He was raised and educated in Port Chester and served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theater. Mr. Genovese was retired from the Empire Brush Company in Port Chester and as well as the village of Port Chester. He was a parishioner of the Corpus Christi Church. Mr. Genovese is survived by his wife of 64 years Antoinette Varbero Genovese of Del ray Beach, FL., daughter Jeanette Moliterno and husband Bob of Lancaster, PA., three grandchildren and four great grandchildren and sister Mary Bufalo of Florida. Eleanor C. Kline, a life long resident of Piermont, passed away September 12, 2010. Wife of the late Frank. Eleanor was born in Piermont on August 6, 1924 to Luigi and Carmela Lombardi.
