Helen Ann Maher, 84, of Tappan, NY, on January 19th, 2011. Helen was a long time parishioner of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Tappan. She was a member of the Rosary Society, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church Eucharistic Minister, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Survived by her beloved husband James Maher. Devoted children Jay Maher of Palm Coast, FL, John Maher and wife Denise of Blauvelt, NY, Ann Koesterer of Orangeburg NY and her husband Dennis, Helayne Duffy of Tappan, NY. Cherished grandchildren Jay Maher, Elizabeth Solis, Richard Maher, Chris Maher, Sean Maher, Jimmy Maher, Shannon Koesterer, Katelyn Koesterer, Jillian Koesterer, and predeceased by her grandson Dylan Maher. Anne W. Matthews, age 64, of Toms River, NJ died Monday January 17th at home. She was predeceased by her loving Husband Lester, her son David and her parents Malcolm and Katharine Wilson. Surviving are Bonnie Brock and Jennifer Matthews, her 2 grandsons Cameron and Caedan and her sister Katharine Wilson Conroy. A Memorial Mass will be offered 10:30 AM Saturday, January 22nd at Holy Family R. C. Church, New Rochelle, NY. Burial will be private.
MCKEE, JOSEPH
Joseph McKee of Suffern, New York, died peacefully on January 19, 2011. He was 60 years of age. He is survived by his beloved Jeanne Rohe, treasured Father of Joseph, KC (Emily), Mikey (Liz), and Kaitlin. Adored Pop of three granddaughters. Brother of Marie Kelly (Paul), Thomas (Sheila), Bill, Robert and Patrick. Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews, predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Joe McKee. Joe grew up in Pearl River and graduated from St. Margaret's School, Bergen Catholic High School and Marist College. He received his Masters Degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and also studied at The University of Madrid. Joe served in the U.S. Army Reserves. After graduating college, Joe was employed as a Spanish teacher at Suffern High School. In his 34 years at Suffern High School, Joe was universally recognized as a Master teacher who dedicated his entire professional career to his students. He was Department Chairman of World Languages in the Ramapo Central School District as well as Adjunct Professor of Spanish at SUNY Rockland Community College. Joe continued his love of teaching at Parsippany-Troy Hills High School for the last 4 years. Joe was a tennis coach at Suffern High School and was the Director/Organizer of the Ramapo Police Athletic League Basketball Program. Joe loved life, laughter and people as well as his family and his many devoted friends. Kevin M. McLoughlin entered into eternal rest Tuesday, January 11, 2011. A resident of Hazleton, PA and formerly a long time resident of Yonkers. Kevin was retired from the FDNY. He is survived by his beloved wife Vivian, his children Kevin, Dawn, and Amy, his loving Mom Eileen, brother Larry(Donna) sisters Kathleen and Rosemary Cali his cherished grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. MUNROE, RAYMOND G.
Raymond G. Munroe, 81, a longtime Cortlandt Manor resident, passed away January 19, 2011. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1953. On June 26, 1954, he married Doris Steinbeck. Raymond formerly worked for the NY Central Railroad and then for the Atlantic Container Line. He was an active member of the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer of Peekskill, and also an avid reader. Along with his wife of 56 years, He is survived by his one daughter and two sons: Carolyn Crosser, Thomas Munroe and Paul Munroe. His four grandchildren: Ray Casey, Galen Thomas, Madeline Rose and Nicholas John Munroe also survive him. On October 26, 1962, he was predeceased by one son Raymond G. Munroe, Jr. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 23rd from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the E.O. O'CONNOR, JAMES
James O'Connor a long time resident of Haverstraw died Tuesday January 18, 2011 at Sound Shore Hospital in New Rochelle. He was 86. James was born June 12, 1924 in Ireland to Cornelius and his wife Margaret O'Connor. He worked until his retirement at Mt St. Ursula Academy in the Bronx. James is survived by his children Noreen and her husband Dennis Shayne, Margaret Mary O'Connor, Michael O'Connor, James and his wife Tina, Joan Ann and her husband Paul O'Melia. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. James is predeceased by his wife Mary in 2002. Friends may call Sunday from 24, 7-9 pm at the T.J. OREFICE JR., JOHN A.
John A. Orefice, Jr., of Yorktown Heights, NY, passed away on January 19, 2011. He was 77. Mr. Orefice worked as a horticulturist, operating his own business for many years until his passing. He was a member of the American Nurserymen's Association. Mr. Orefice was born January 8, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, to John and Agnes Orefice. Mr. Orefice served in the Navy from 1953 to 1957. He received numerous medals including the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. In 1955, he married Margaret Kehrer at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Plainedge, NY. Locally, he was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Yorktown Heights, NY. Mr. Orefice will be remembered for his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren, his undying faith and his limitless generosity. He is survived by his wife Margaret, of Yorktown Heights, his six children: Maryanne Erdody (Robert), John, Elizabeth, Dominick, Michele Maune and Jenifer Crowley; seven grandchildren: Melissa Pennington, Joseph, Christopher and Matthew Orefice; and Danny, Connor and Kelly Maune; and one great-grandchild: Seth Pennington IV. He was predeceased by his beloved grandson John. Calling hours are Sunday, January 23, 2 - 4 and 7 - 9pm at Clark Funeral Home in Yorktown Heights. The Mass of Christian Burial is Monday, January 24, 10am, at Old St. Patrick's Stone Church in Yorktown Heights. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. PASSERO, RACHEL
Rachel Passero of New City, NY died on January 17, 2011. She was 83. Rachel was born July 30, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Rose Cuttito. On September 11, 1949, she married Anthony Passero in St. Fortunato's Church in Brooklyn, NY. They have been married for 61 years. Rachel worked for Krum's Choclatiers in New City for many years. Besides her busband Rachel is survived by her daughters; Nina and Frank Fiasconare of Rye, NY; Ann and Jim Spearmen of Nyack; and Jean and Duane Henthorn of Tappan, NY. Grandchildren, Frank Ross, Coleen Maio, Anthony Ross, Jillian and Elaina Henthorn, and Nicholas and Lance Fiasconare, and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by a brother Santo Cuttito of Long Island and a sister Jennie Cuttito of Haverstraw, NY. The family will receive friends on today from 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Friday from 7-9 pm at the Higgiins Funeral Home in New City. Louise Petrucelli, 89, a life long Dobbs Ferry resident died January 19, 2011. She was born in Dobbs Ferry the daughter of Nunzio and Filomena Valpacchio. On April 8, 1951 she married Vincent Petrucelli at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in Dobbs Ferry. During WWII Louise worked at North American Phillips Company in Dobbs Ferry. Louise was a member of the Dobbs Ferry Seniors and Our Lady of Pompeii Altar Guild. She is survived by her beloved husband Vincent, son Robert (Deborah), sisters Nancy Hogan and Yolanda Francia, granddaughter Brianne Nicole Petrucelli. ROONEY, BRENDAN PATRICK
Brendan Patrick Rooney a resident of Norwalk and Darien, CT., Harrison, NY, and before that Yorktown Hts., NY, entered into rest on Monday, January 17, 2011 at the age of 83, only 10 months after losing his wife of 59 years, Nancy Ellen Dryden Rooney. Brendan was born and raised in The Bronx, NY, along with his brother Bill and sister Eileen, to William Patrick and Kathleen Hanham Rooney. He was a proud American who was generous, caring and hard-working from his time as a teenager delivering groceries with his bicycle on the streets of the Bronx, to then parking cars at Yonkers Raceway until he enlisted and served his country and became an honorable member of the United States Navy achieving the rank of Quarter Master 3rd Class. While attending several Schools including Cardinal Hayes High School and St. John's University, he then culminated his formal education by earning a Masters degree in business at New York University. After a brief time working for Chase Manhattan Bank in their Management program, Brendan started and solely owned very successful companies including Dryden Waterproofing Corporation, which was named after his wife Nancy, and continues to operate today after more than 50 years. He has never wavered from his unparalleled work ethic and caring for his family, friends and those who worked with and for him over those many decades. He was a master linguist and wordsmith, played clarinet and enjoyed music, especially Dixieland Jazz, most sports, crossword puzzles and, of course, the game show "Jeopardy." Brendan is survived by his five children, William, Brendan Jr, James, Constance and John, his sister Eileen, his 10 grandchildren and his beloved Schnauzer Ellie.
