History: Born on December 15, 1915 in Troy, NY, Margaret Millington moved to Rochester in 1921. She lived near St. Michael`s Church and School. It was a German Parish and the priest said they didn`t belong there, they belonged in the Irish Parish. Margaret graduated from St. Bridget`s School in 1929. She was a 1933 graduate of Nazareth Academy when tuition was $75. After graduation she could have attended Nazareth College for $450/year but decided that twelve years of school was enough and took a job as a bookkeeper for Cook Coffee Co. for $8 a week. In 1933 She met Georger Schmidt at Holy Rosary Dances. He came calling to her home one night while she was on her annual trip to Troy with her family. Her neighbor told her that he came by and she was sure glad that he came back once she returned home. He was 19 and she was 17, too young to marry so they went together for 6 years. They became engaged in 1938 and were married on April 15, 1939 at Holy Rosary Church. They started out living on Lakeview Park and built their home at 724 Stone Rd. in 1941. They had 4 children, George, Dick, Jean and Margaret. They had very many special memories and Traditions at 724 Stone Rd. and they watched their children grow up and start their own families, giving them 15 grandchildren. George died in 1984 and Margaret continued the traditions at 724 Stone Rd. and then created new ones on JoEllen Dr. She would get to see her grandchildren grow up and start their own families, giving her 26 great grandchildren. She really enjoyed visits from her family and she was an extremely independent woman. She often bragged about never seeing a doctor and she loved to drive herself to church every Sunday. Margaret loved to sit and talk about the old days and would tell anyone who would listen about troy and her childhood. She made most of her family afghans and hats and mittens and she prided herself on being able to stand on her own two feet. She was extremely loved and respected by her children and her grandchildren and she left a legacy that will be carried on in their hearts forever.
