Carol Ann Shannon, of Honeoye Falls, died on September 10, 2000. She is survived by her sister, Ann Marie (Dennis) Glavan; two nieces, Kristen (David) Metzger and Alissa Glavan; dear friend, Lynn Yeaw; and many special friends. Carol was a teacher at the Leary School in the Rush-Henrietta School District.
A service celebrating Carol’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Honeoye Falls, on Saturday, September 16 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may send contributions to the First Presbyterian Church Music Fund or the Honeoye Falls-Mendon Volunteer Ambulance Fund in memory of Carol. WILLIAM J. IEKEL
William Joseph (Bill) Iekel, formerly of Cattaraugus County, and then Honeoye Falls, died of natural causes on September 30, 2000 at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester. He was born in Independence, Iowa on Aug. 3, 1908, the son of John F. and Mary Iekel.
Bill began his work as a mechanical engineer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in the early 1930s and was married to Helen Frances Corrigan on Feb. 14, 1935. For much of the Second World War he worked in Detroit, in the war effort and then, in 1947, the family moved to Cattaraugus County, near Springville. Bill worked in Buffalo, and then at Winsmith in Springville, for two years, moving in 1963 to Honeoye Falls. He went to work at the Farrell Corporation in Rochester, retiring from there in 1973.
He was active in the practice of his religion as a Roman Catholic, both as a member of the Holy Name Society and then as a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus in Hamburg, New York.
Professionally, he was past president of the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers in the Milwaukee and Buffalo Chapters and had been in partnership in an engineering firm, Niagara Industrial Designers, Inc. in Buffalo for a number of years. Active in his community, Bill had been on the Zoning Board in Ashford Township in Cattaraugus County and was past chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals in Honeoye Falls. His principal interests were his family, his work as an engineer and carpentry. In later years, he took great interest in his flowers and plants and in bowling.
In 1997, Bill sold his house in Honeoye Falls, and moved into the Heritage Retirement Home in Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Elizabeth Anna, Clara Marie, John Francis and Agnes Margaret was well as a nine year old son, Robert Francis, on Oct. 26, 1948, and his wife, Helen, on Feb. 19, 1988. He is survived by his sons Christopher (carol) of Bryans Road, Maryland, Jerry (Penny) of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Frederick (Jacqueline) of Rochester; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Merton Kay Funeral Home, 59 Monroe Street, Honeoye Falls. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 6 at 10:30 a.m. Burial in the Catholic cemetery. In lieu of flowers, masses may be said or contributions made to your local chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
William Joseph Iekel’s life was filled with joy and laughter and a measure of fear, sorrow and tears. Now as he rests in peace secure, one thing at least is sure that is that he is happy now in paradise. This is the greatest comfort in making up for his loss.
IRENE P. SAXBY
Irene Saxby, of Victor, and Honeoye, died on Monday, September 25, 2000. She was predeceased by her husband, G. Earl Saxby. Irene is survived by her son, Marvin (Joanne) Hogan; grandchildren, Randy (Elaine) Hogan, Teri (Bill) Maxwell; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Lesley Hogan, Katie and Kevin Cutaia, Jana and Scott Maxwell; nieces and nephews; cousins and special friends Mechele and Spence Shumway. Irene was a 46-year member and past Matron of Gah-a-yan-duk #566 order of the Eastern Star.
An Eastern Star Service was held at the Harloff-Cotton Funeral Home in Victor on Thursday, September 28. Interment at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may direct contributions to Serenity House, 1278 Brace Road, Victor, NY 14564 in her memory.
DAVID M. RECKTENWALD
David M. "Monk" Recktenwald, of Ionia, died on Saturday, September 30, 2000. He was 39. His is survived by his parents, George and Leona Recktenwald of Ionia; three brothers, Eric (Gayla) of Marble Falls, Texas, Marc (Laurie) of Arvada, Colorado and John of Ionia; a niece, Krista LeAnn and nephew, Dalton Paul; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends called on Wednesday, October 4, at the O'Connell-Drowne Funeral Home in Lima. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 5, at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mendon. Interment at Millers Corners Cemetery in Ionia.

GERTRUDE M. MEYERS
Gertrude M. Meyers, of Lima, died peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Earl B. Meyers; two daughters, Carol (Elmer) Miller and Linda (Larry) Mitchell; five granddaughters, Lori (John) Wing; Lisa (Kent) Porter, Lynn Young, Kim Miller and Carey (Jon) Christjansen; four great grandchildren; and nephews William and Russell Cottrell.
Family and friends called at Mr. and Mrs. Meyers' home on Wednesday, October 4. A service and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lima Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 335, Lima, NY 14485. The family was assisted by the O'Connell-Drowne Funeral Home in Lima.
MARY J. HANNA
Mary J. Hanna, of Honeoye Falls, died on Wednesday, October 4, 2000. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond. She is survived by her four daughters, Diane Hanna, Sally (Bruce) Campbell, Debbi (Mendo) Cickovski, and Patricia (William) Graff; five grandchildren, Tyler and Betsy Campbell, Trevor Cickovski, Cooper and Alexander Graff; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 7, 2000, at the Merton H. Kays Funeral Home, Inc. in Honeoye Falls. Interment, Honeoye Falls Cemetery.

HART GOLDSMITH
Hart Goldsmith, 61, a former chief of the Mendon Fire Department, died on Wednesday, October 11, 2000, after a valiant battle with cancer. He is the beloved husband of Kathleen (Culhane); father of Hart, Geoffrey, Michael, Bridget, and Meghan; and grandfather of Noah, MacKenzie and Stacia.
Born and raised in Rochester, Mr. Goldsmith graduated from what is now Allendale Columbia School. He attended Princeton University, but left when his father became ill. He finished his college education at the University of Rochester.
Until selling it a few months ago, Mr. Goldsmith owned Continental Financial Systems, a computer software company.
Mr. Goldsmith was a firefighter in the Brighton Fire Department before moving to the Mendon Fire District.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, October 16 in the University of Rochester Interfaith Chapel, Wilson Blvd. Fire Departments from across the southeast section, including the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s Mounted Patrol, of Monroe County met at the Mendon firehouse to honor him. Interment will be in the Mendon Cemetery.
