Ferrara, Dr. Paul A., 94, of 136 Chapel Street, Canastota, died Saturday, October 21, 2000, at the Oneida Healthcare Center following a brief illness. He was born on October 27, 1905, in Canastota, the son of Raffaele W. and Marie Ferrara. Dr. Ferrara had lived in Canastota most of his life. He was a 1924 graduate of Oneida High School, and a 1928 graduate of Colgate University. He graduated from the University of Rochester Medical School in 1932, served an internship at Highland Hospital in Rochester, and an externship at a University Hospital in Rome, Italy. He had been a General Practitioner in Canastota from 1935 to 1988.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving overseas with the U.S. Navy Medical Corps in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.
Dr. Ferrara had been a lifetime member of the Canastota Rotary Club, receiving their Roses to the Living Award in 1979. He had also been a member of the New York State Medical Society, and had been the physician for Diemolding Corporation, Queensboro Farm Products, and the Canastota Central School District, as well as the Health Officer for the Village of Canastota.
He had loved fishing, and was a voracious reader, as well as being an avid Yankees and Mets fan.
He married Rosalie Manieri on August 24, 1936 in Salamanca, NY. She predeceased him July 22, 1984. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Rolfe and Patricia Ferrara of Oneida; one daughter and son-in-law, Rosanne and Frederick Holbrook of Spencerport; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Dr. Louis and Phyllis Ferrara of Syracuse and Lena Ferrara of Oneida; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, a special care-giver, John Schnurr. Dr. Ferrara was predeceased by a son, Paul A. "Paulie" Ferrara Jr., who died December 31, 1986; a brother, Gerard Ferrara; and two sisters, Rosemary Ferrara and Angela Ferrara.

He was predeceased by his father, William George; his brother J.C.; and sister, Marcellina Brooks. He was a seven year Nany Veteran and was a retiree of the Rochester City School District.

Sweeting, Richard W. (Dick), June 6, 2008, at age 90, at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center, Brockport. Dick is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Wilson Sweeting; sister Blanche Spencer (Libby, Montana); sister-in-law, Doris Sweeting (Shelby, North Carolina) and many nieces, nephews and their families. He was predeceased by brothers, sisters, and their spouses; Harold and Olive Sweeting, Wendell and Mary Sweeting, Ruth and Francis Shaughnessy, Hazel and Donald Burgett, Ralph Sweeting and Donald Spencer. Dick was an advertising executive with Eastman Kodak Company, served in the US Army and was a life member of Western Monroe Historical Society, Monroe Lodge No. 173 Masons and a member of Brockport United Methodist Church for many years.

He is survived by his children, Kenneth (Sheila) Mosele, Diane (Paul) Nau, Deborah (Michael) Bommelje and Kimberly (Steven) Weir; his grandchildren, Kenneth Jr. and Christopher Mosele, Rebecca, Stacie, Kristen and Kathryn Nau, Meaghan and Samantha Weir. Woody was a former Elder Statesman for Gleason Works in Rochester.
