Joan Price
January 29, 2000
Joan LaRowe Price, 63, of Kellar Avenue, Rotterdam, died Saturday at home after a long illness.
She was born in Gloversville.
In the early 1950s, she was manager of the luncheonette at the New York Central train station in Schenectady. Later, she was a waitress for the Curry Road Diner and worked at Central Markets and the Golub Corp.
She was a member of the Second Reformed Church of Rotterdam, a former crossing guard for the Schalmont School District and a former Cub Scout den mother.
She married Richard Price Sr. Sept. 9, 1956.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a daughter, Deborah L. Simmons of Clifton Park; two sons, Richard Price Jr. of Clifton Park and Dale A. Price of Vero Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Leland LaRowe of Nokesville, Va., and Raymond LaRowe of Duanesburg; two sisters, Shirley Lis of Utica and Audrey DuPont of Schenectady; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue, Rotterdam.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Charlton, in the spring.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice or to the American Lung Association.

Richard Sleezer
January 29, 2000
Richard R. Sleezer, 68, of 270 E. Fulton St., Gloversville, died Saturday at home after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 10, 1931, in Gloversville, the son of Raymond and Catherine Costello Sleezer. He attended Gloversville schools and was a lifelong Gloversville resident.
He served in the Navy from Dec. 12, 1951, to Dec. 5, 1955, in Italy and Korea.
Before the war he was a shipping clerk at the former J. M. Rubin and Sons Glove Co. He was also a body and fender repairman at the former Nelson Jones Ford, and at Garlock's Garage, Gloversville. He was later employed at Carville-National Leather Corp, Johnstown, retiring in 1998 due to illness.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He married Jane G. DiScioscia Oct. 30, 1955.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sons, Michael A. Sleezer, Stephen J. Sleezer and Daniel R. Sleezer, all of Gloversville, and Richard A. Sleezer of Albany; two daughters, Teresa M. Tebo of Wells and Kathleen A. Snell of Georgetown, Ohio; two sisters, Joan Bilger and Geraldine Onion, both of Gloversville; seven grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service is scheduled at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, followed at 9:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant.
Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Redding
January 30, 2000
William Redding, 78 of Evelyn Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday at Montgomery Meadows.
Arrangements by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, are incomplete and will be announced.

Ronald Claflin
January 31, 2000
Ronald E. Claflin, 69, of Caroga Lake, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital following a long illness.
He was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Rensselaer, the son of Elmore A. and Daisy Baldwin Claflin.
He was a member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church, Gloversville.
He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953.
Mr. Claflin was a quality control specialist at the Watervliet Arsenal for 29 years, retiring in 1985. He then worked for the Gloversville School District as a bus driver from 1987 until 1993, when he went to work for Gloversville City transit until his death.
He married June Huddleston Sept. 10, 1983.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Debbie Mark of Glenville, Diana and Tina Avery, both of Gloversville; three sons, Robert Avery of Kingston, Dean DeCuyke of Johnstown, and Dan DeCuyke of Broadalbin; two sisters, Jane Shields of Albany and Ann Kemp of Elmira; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Dave DeCuyke.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Thursday at the North Main Street United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Alan Rhodes officiating.
Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

William Mulvey
January 29, 2000
William "Bill" Keane Mulvey, 80, of Hartwell, Ga., died Saturday at Emory University Hospital there.
He was born in Amsterdam and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in English literature form Notre Dame University. He pursued postgraduate studies at the University at Albany. He also taught English at Notre Dame.
He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a bombardier.
Mr. Mulvey was involved in television in his early years at WRGB in Schenectady, where he was known as Bronco Bill and master of ceremonies of Teen-Age Barn and was also a television director. He taught high school English and was director of the Education Communication Center at the State University of New York at Albany before retiring. He won the Ohio State Award in 1972.
Mr. Mulvey was a published author of short stories and articles. In retirement, he pursued television commercial work in Atlanta and theater work in Anderson, S.C. He also had a guest spot on the TV show Heat of the Night.
Mr. Mulvey was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary McDuffie Mulvey; four daughters, Ellen Schafle of Ambler, Pa., Kathleen Mulvey of Mount Kisco, Lorie Schur of Cincinnati, and Maureen Baginski of King George, Va.; and two sons, Michael Mulvey of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Patrick Mulvey of Katonah.
A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Hartwell, Ga.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1009 Benson St., Hartwell, Ga. 30643; or the Hart County LVA, in care of the Hart County Library, 150 Benson St., Hartwell, Ga. 30643.
Arrangements are by the Strickland Funeral Home, Hartwell.

Maria Ilnyckyj
January 30, 2000
Maria Ilnyckyj, 78, of Lodge Street, Amsterdam, died Sunday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.
She was born Nov. 24, 1921, in Lviv, Ukraine, the daughter of Wasyl and Katherine Fedaishko Oleksowicz. Educated in Ukraine, she came to Amsterdam in 1950 and lived here since.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church.
She married Wasyl Ilnyckyj in November 1948.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, William Ilnyckyj of Upper Montclair, N.J.; a brother, John Oleksowicz of Ukraine; and three grandsons.
The funeral is 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed at 9 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Interment will be in Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Hampton-burgh.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday with Panachyda at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 24 Pulaski St., Amsterdam.

Hazel Jones
January 28, 2000
Hazel Louise Snyder Jones, 94, of Marshville, died Friday at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, N.M.
She was born May 22, 1905, in Nelliston, the daughter of Sylvester and Marguerite Smith Snyder.
She was employed by the Luxuray Mills in Fort Plain, Arkell & Smith, and Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. in Canajoharie.
She was a 72-year member of Palatine Union Grange 580, where she held numerous offices, including serving as master for more than 20 years. She was a member of Pomona, State, and National Grange. She was a 53-year member of the Rebakah Lodge and the Freysbush United Methodist Church.
She married Augustus Jones June 10, 1925. He died in 1952.
Survivors include a daughter, Albertina Hazel Dillenbeck of Ballston Spa; a son, Augustus L. Jones of Clovis, N.M.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is scheduled in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to Freysbush United Methodist Church, the Marshville Evangelical Church, or the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service.
Arrangements are by the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie.

Doris Gibson
January 31, 2000
Doris J. Boyd Gibson, 62, of 90 W. Pine St., Gloversville, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
She was born Feb. 25, 1937, in Gloversville, the daughter of Donald and Lucille Lawton Boyd. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and a lifelong area resident.
She was employed as a factory worker at Crescendo Glove Co., and later at St. Thomas Inc., Gloversville.
She retired in 1971.
Mrs. Gibson attended St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church in Gloversville.
She married Kenneth A. Gibson Dec. 25, 1957. He died May 23, 1990.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, of Gloversville, include five sons, Daniel Gibson of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Kenneth J. Gibson and Scott A. Gibson, both of Gloversville, William D. Gibson of Boston, and Jeffrey B. Gibson of Northville; two daughters, JayDene Jenkins of Twin Lakes, Mich., and Susan Cotton of Gloversville; four brothers, Donald Boyd of Rockwood, John "Jack" Boyd of Bellingham, Wash., and Calvin Boyd and Richard Boyd, both of Gloversville; two sisters, her twin, Dorothy Frederick, and Beverly Snyder, both of Gloversville; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer services is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Donald Czelusnizk, pastor of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Broadalbin Union Rural Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Elmer Rakas
January 30, 2000
Elmer Rakas, 75, of Collingwood Avenue, Johnstown, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a short illness.
He was born in New Mexico and moved to Wilkes Barre, Pa., as a child. He moved to the Johnstown area in the late 1940s.
Mr. Rakas was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific.
He was a school photographer for Rosbach Photography and Alston Photography, retiring last year with 45 years of service. Mr. Rakas also worked part-time at the McDonald's Restaurant in Johnstown until August of last year.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Church.
He was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge, Johnstown Eagles Aerie, Concordia Club of Gloversville, and the Ancient Order of Foresters of Gloversville.
He married Theresa Sokol May 25, 1952.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Dana Rakas of Gloversville and David Sokol of Douglas, Ga.; a brother, Raymond Rakas of Pennsylvania; a sister, Ethyel Flentye of California; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony's Church.
Spring burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets, Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association or St. Anthony's Church.

Emily Adams
January 24, 2000
Emily J. Adams, 67, of Spring Hill, Fla., died Jan. 24 at Hernando Hospice House, Brooksville, Fla.
She was born April 1, 1932, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Petrella Pomilio. She was a Ballston Spa resident for 32 years and moved to Spring Hill, Fla., in 1993.
She was a 1974 graduate of Skidmore College with a bachelor or arts in language arts and a 1976 graduate of St. Rose with a master's degree in special education.
She was a teacher in the Ballston Spa middle school for 20 years, retiring in 1990.
Mrs. Adams was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
She was a member of the New York State Teachers Association and the National Education Association.
She attended St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Ballston Spa.
Survivors include her husband, Harry J. Adams; two sons, Nicholas Adams of St. Louis, Mo., and Douglas Adams of Wilton; a daughter, Valerie Tomeck of Wilton; and six grandchildren.
A Mass is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa.
Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery with honors.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church School Building Fund, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa 12020; or to the American Cancer Society, 1450 Western Ave., Albany 12203.
