Sept. 3, 1996
Joseph P. Czelusniak, 93, of the Mount Loretto Nursing Home, Amsterdam, formerly of Clark Avenue, died Tuesday at the home.
A lifelong Amsterdam resident, Mr. Czelusniak worked for the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills at one time.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and the former St. John's Club.
His wife, Josephine Dlugolacki Czelusniak, whom he married June 8, 1929, died in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Edward Czelusniak of Schenectady and Richard Czelusniak of Dove Canyon, Calif.; two daughters, Clara Kolacki of Amsterdam, and Mary Ann Celmer of Dillon, S.C.; three brothers, Klemens and Thomas Czelusniak, both of Amsterdam, and Leonard Czelusniak of Pine, Ariz.; two sisters, Ada Wanda Dybas of Amsterdam and Sister Mary Eulogia of Schenectady; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, and at 9 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church or to the nursing home.
Leo Kerr
Sept. 6, 1996
Leo G. Kerr, 70, of Ridge Road, Amsterdam, died Friday at Samuel Stratton Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital, Albany, after a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Kerr Lived in Amsterdam for the past seven years, previously residing in Freeport for several years.
While in Long Island, Mr. Kerr worked in the quality control department of the IMC Plant in Westbury for 12 years.
Prior to that, he worked for the Long Island Rail Road and at one time was a sandhog operator.
During World War II, he served in the Pacific with the U.S. Army.
Mr. Kerr is survived by his wife of 38 years, Diane Tennie Kerr; a son, Arthur Kerr of Amsterdam; a daughter, Sandra Walton of Broadalbin; and two grandchildren.
Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin.
A private service will be conducted and there will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Feeley-Nuzback Funeral Home, 1130 Third Ave., Schenectady.
Grayce Devendorf
September 5, 1996
Grayce Knack Devendorf, 105, formerly of Locust Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday morning at the Wells House Nursing Home in Johnstown.
Born Sept. 16, 1890 in St. Johnsville, she was the daughter of E.J. and Louise Hugo Knack. She resided there until moving to Cleveland, Ohio, where she resided for 47 years, moving to Amsterdam in the mid-1960s.
Mrs. Devendorf was at one time employed at the piano factory in St. Johnsville, and later was employed as the secretary of the mayor of the City of Cleveland.
Mrs. Devendorf was a Christian Scientist.
She was a direct descendent of Victor Hugo, the French author.
She was married to John Devendorf. He died in 1989.
Mrs. Devendorf is survived by two nephews, Charles Devendorf and Henry Devendorf, both of Amsterdam; two grand-nephews, David and Brian Devendorf, both of Amsterdam; two grand-nieces, Linda Toore of Tallahassee, Fla., and Rachel Osborn of Vienna, Va.; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Russell Camp officiating. Interment will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery.
A calling hour will begin at noon at the funeral home.
Angela Morrone
September 5, 1996
Mrs. Angela Morrone, 62, of 104 Minaville St., Amsterdam, died Thursday afternoon at Albany Medical Center.
Born April 14, 1934 in Monte S. Giovanni Campano, Province of Frosinone, Italy, she was the daughter of Angelo and Teresa Reali Santaroni.
She moved to Amsterdam in 1953 where she has since lived.
She worked for a number of years for the former Reali Grocery and Gas Station at 104 Minaville St., Amsterdam, and since 1974, she was employed for the Meals for the Elderly in Amsterdam where she was a cook until her death.
Mrs. Morrone was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, and its Christian Women Society. She also worked the bingo games at Mount Carmel Church, and was a member of the Mount Carmel Women's Bocce Club. She was also a volunteer for the Wellness Institute at St. Mary's Hospital.
Her husband, John D. Morrone, whom she married June 27, 1959, died March 27, 1979.
Mrs. Morrone is survived by a daughter, Lisa VanDusen of Seneca Falls; and two brothers, Giovanni Santaroni and Umberto Santaroni, both of Italy; a sister, Lidia Buttarazzi of Italy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conduced at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. Burial will take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Amsterdam.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church or to the Wellness Institute of St. Mary's Hospital.
Morris Safford
September 5, 1996
Morris Safford Sr., 68, of Main Street, Guilderland Center, died Thursday at home.
Born in Gloversville, he moved to Schenectady in 1940 and then to Guilderland Center in 1951.
Mr. Safford was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Safford was a machinist at General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 42 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Guilderland Fire Department and the former president and treasurer of the Automobilist of the Upper Hudson Valley. He was also treasurer of the local chapter of the Model T Club of America and a member of the Hupmobile Club.
Mr. Safford is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Safford; a daughter, Emma VanAlstyne of Guilderland Center; a son, Morris Safford Jr. of East Berne; a sister, Ida Retersdorf of Gloversville; nine grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Altamont Reformed Church, Lincoln Avenue. Burial will take place in Schenectady Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Hospice or the American Cancer Society, both in Albany.
Arrangements are by the Fredendall Funeral Home, Altamont.
Angel Collado
Sept. 12, 1996
Mr. Angel Collado, 85, of the Montgomery County Infirmary, formerly of Third Ave., Canajoharie, died Thursday evening at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness.
Born in Tampa, Fla., Feb. 16, 1911, he was the son of Felix Collado and Josefa Perez. He was educated in Florida.
Mr. Collado was employed in the Strained Foods Department at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie in various capacities, retiring in 1973. Previously, he was a glove cutter in Gloversville.
He lived in Canajoharie for most of his life after moving from Tampa. He lived at the infirmary for the past 2 years.
Mr. Collado was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Canajoharie.
He was a eucharistic minister at the church, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Holy Names Society and an avid wood worker.
He married Florence Tiberio May 4, 1935, in Canajoharie.
Survivors include his wife, Florence A. "Phyllis" Collado of the Montgomery County Infirmary, Amsterdam; two daughters, Patricia Ann Grainer of Canajoharie and Barbara Marie Lesa of Whittier, Calif.; two sisters, Zoila Becerra of Yonkers and Vera Cerezo of Commack; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Mary Collado, who died March 1, 1940.
A prayer service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the Chapel of the Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, followed at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Canajoharie, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
The Rev. William J. Gaffigan will officiate.
Burial will be in Sts. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter & Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 100 Cliff St., Canajoharie.
Frances Morey
Sept. 12, 1996
Mrs. Frances Theresa Morey, 99. of the Kingsway Manor, Schenectady, died Thursday evening at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady
Born May 8, 1897, in the Town of Glen, she was the daughter of Anthony and Anna Dulczewski. She attended St. Stanislaus School and was a resident of Amsterdam until 1960, when she moved to La Jolla, Calif. In 1987, she returned to Northport, until moving to Schenectady in 1991.
She was a dental receptionist in the office of her husband, Dr. Andrew Thomas Morey, before retiring in 1960.
She was a member of the former St. Joseph's Church of Amsterdam
She was married to Andrew Thomas Morey, who died Jan. 7, 1987.
Survivors include a son, Robert Morey of Cooperstown; a daughter, Patronella White of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; a sister, Eva Greller of Amsterdam; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam.
Margaret Krajewski
Sept. 13, 1996
Margaret S. Krajewski, 76, of 122 Stahl Road, Town of Oppenheim, died Friday at home.
She was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Queens, the daughter of Henry J. and Sophie Oppel Ranzinger. She was educated in New York City schools and lived in Dolgeville for the past 10 years.
Mrs. Krajewski was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Rubas of Oppenheim and Ruth Drescher of Lindenhurst; a step-son, Robert Skapinski of Gloversville; a good friend, Anthony J. Skapinski of Dolgeville; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother and four sisters.
The funeral is Sunday at 8 p.m. at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville.
Calling hours are Sunday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
Cremation will be in the Leatherstocking Crematory in Cherry Valley.
Lester Zoller
Sept. 13, 1996
Lester E. Zoller, 84, of Brookmans Corners Road, Fort Plain, died Friday at Little Falls Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in the Town of Minden Aug. 24, 1912, the son of Howard and Rhoda Brookman Zoller. He was educated at the former Brookmans Corners School and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Zoller was a self-employed dairy farmer in the Town of Minden, retiring in 1976. He was also a director of the Mohawk Minden Insurance Company.
For 30 years, from 1963 to 1993, Mr. Zoller was a councilman in the Town of Minden.
He was a member of the Otsquago Grange in Hallsville and a member of the Montgomery County Republican Club.
He was married Nov. 25, 1937, at the home of his bride, Evelyn O. Snyder, in Minden.
Survivors include his wife, of Minden; a daughter, Shirley Z. Bouck of Fort Plain; a son, Larry A. Zoller of Fort Plain; a sister, Ethel Conroy of Canajoharie; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.

Rose Martuscello
Sept. 13, 1996
Rose Martuscello, 94, formerly of Amsterdam, died Friday at the Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls, where she had been a patient for a short time.
She was the daughter of Anthony and Anna Conti Altieri.
For many years, Mrs. Martuscello and her husband, William Martuscello, owned and operated the Florida Avenue Market in Amsterdam, retiring in 1963.
She was predeceased by her husband. Survivors include a son, Joseph Martuscello of Dolgeville, with whom she lived for the past 10 years; four sisters, Alice Chiricko, Amelia Percassi, Josephine Sievert and Alvina Zappone; three brothers, Frank, Herman and Richard Altieri; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Amsterdam.
Interment will follow in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Betz Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Arrangements are in care of the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville.
