Alton Smith
March 7, 2000
Alton Smith, 95, of Cooperstown, died Tuesday at the Meadows in Cooperstown.
He was born in East Springfield.
He was a bartender at the former Justice Inn in East Springfield. He was also a bus driver for Roy Lenecker and a truck driver for the Beech-Nut Packing Co. in Canajoharie, retiring in 1967.
Survivors include a brother, Earl Smith of Jordanville.
A graveside service will be scheduled in the spring in Springfield Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the activities fund at The Meadows, 140 County Route 33W, Cooperstown 13326.
Arrangements are by the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Lulu Carpenter

Lulu Bass Carpenter, 91, of the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville, formerly of 401 N. Main St., Gloversville, died Tuesday at the health care facility where she lived for the past two years.
She was born April 24, 1908, in Northville, the daughter of William H. and Mary M. Smith Bass. She was educated in Northville and lived in Gloversville for about 60 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; a 63 year member and twice past matron in 1960 and 1964 of Cayadutta Chapter 166 Order of the Eastern Star; past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge in 1960; past president of the Pocahontas in the early 1960s, all of Gloversville.
She married James Carpenter in 1929. He died Sept. 17, 1980.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Jean "Betty" Woolsey of Troy, N.C.; four step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; a niece; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
The funeral is noon Saturday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Peter Murphy of the First Free United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
A calling hour will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Free Methodist Church, 1200 County Route 122, Gloversville 12078.

Sybil Tereau
March 6, 2000
Sybil Tereau, 81, of Simmons Lake Road, Brooksville, Fla., died Monday after a long illness.
She was born in Scotia and lived there until retiring in 1968. She then lived in Galway Lake in the summer and Seminole, Fla., in the winter. She was a high school graduate.
Mrs. Tereau was a homemaker and a sales clerk.
Her husband, Thomas Tereau, died in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Gail Sarges of Scotia and Spring Hill, Fla., and Julie Maglio of Brooksville; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for the immediate family in Florida.
Arrangements are by the Turner Funeral Home and Crematory, Brooksville, Fla.

Melvin Kruger
March 8, 2000
Melvin E. Kruger, 82, of Second Avenue, Tribes Hill, died Wednesday at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam following a long illness.
He was born April 8, 1917, in Amsterdam, the son of Edward and Anna Blocker Kruger. He was a lifelong area resident.
During World War II, served with the United States Army in the Second Armored Division in the European Theatre, the Battle of the Bulge, and Africa and served with Patton's Army.
He was employed by Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam. After retirement was employed part-time at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., Amsterdam.
He was a member and past master in 1952 of the Welcome Lodge 829 of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was also a former member of the Green Hill Cemetery Association and the Tribes Hill Fire Department.
He was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a former member of the church council.
He married Helen Mead Oct. 12, 1946. She died Dec. 27, 1982.
He married Caroline E. Kruger Sept. 1, 1984.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Lt. Col. Dr. Robert M. Kruger of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Carol Beth Wilary of Amsterdam; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pine Street, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Janice Caiazzo officiating.
Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. The Welcome Lodge will conduct a service at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department, St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, or a charity of one's choice.

Jeremiah Little
March 8, 2000
Jeremiah M. Little Sr., 76, of Manchester Center, Vt., formerly of Johnstown, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
He was born in Gloversville and was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and its Wharton School of Business.
During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces.
He worked in the family business, Elmer Little & Sons Glove Manufacturers, serving as president for many years and retiring in 1975. From 1978 to 1998, he and his wife owned and operated the Four Winds Motel in Manchester Center.
Mr. Little was of the Protestant faith.
He was president of the former Colonial Club and a member of the Colonial Little Theatre.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hine Little; a son, Jeremiah M. Little Jr. of Minnetrista, Minn.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Sunday at the Ehle Funeral Home, 15 N. William St., Johnstown.
Spring burial will be in Johnstown Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Richard Duma

Richard A. Duma, 47, of Clizbe Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday evening.
Arrangements by the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home are incomplete and will be announced.

Adolph Cionek
March 9, 2000
Adolph Cionek, 89, of Vrooman Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.
He was born and educated in Amsterdam and was a lifelong area resident.
During World War II, he was an Army staff sergeant and participated in several battles throughout Europe, including the Normandy invasion.
For 35 years, he was a weaver for Mohawk Carpet Mills, and later worked for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady until his retirement.
Mr. Cionek was a communicant of the Church of St. John the Baptist.
He married Florence Karp June 6, 1943. She died in 1996.
Survivors include a son, David P. Cionek of Latham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. John the Baptist, Van Derveer Street.
Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Church Memorial Fund.
Arrangements are by the the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Elisha Weaver
March 8, 2000
Elisha Weaver, 20, of Castlewood Drive, Saratoga Springs, died Wednesday at Saratoga Hospital after a long illness.
She lived in various locations around the world, due to her family's military career. She moved to upstate New York a year ago.
Survivors include her parents, Kenneth and Patricia Weaver of Saratoga Springs; a sister, Sarah Darconte of Mechanicville; paternal grandfather, David Weaver of Galway; maternal grandparents A.C. and Majory Salisbury of Porters Corners; and a nice.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home Inc., Sacandaga Road, Galway.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New York Presbyterian PPH Center, c/o Dr. Robyn T. Barst, New York 10032.

Elizabeth Tomlinson
March 9, 2000
Elizabeth M. Tomlinson, 67, died Thursday at the home of her daughter after a long illness.
She was born and raised in Sharon Springs and moved to Fort Plain in 1996. She attended Sharon Springs Central School.
Mrs. Tomlinson was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Chapel in Leesville and taught Sunday school there for many years.
She married Ransford Tomlinson in August 1962. He died in 1986.
Survivors include four daughters, Marcella Wright of Sharon Springs, Elizabeth Whitman of Johnstown, and Mary Tomlinson and Sandra Shomo-Boakye, both of Gloversville; a brother, Franklin Roe of Cobleskill; three sisters, Della Salisbury of Sharon Springs, Sharon Carmichael of Dallas, and Rose Pugliese of Waterville; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lappeus Funeral Home, 32 Park St., Sharon Springs, followed at 11:30 a.m. by a service at St. Matthew's Chapel in Leesville.
Spring burial will be in Sharon Cemetery in Leesville.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthew's Memorial Fund, in care of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 70 E. Main St., Cobleskill 12043.

Rodney German
March 8, 2000
Rodney A. German, 59, of Grand Gorge, died Wednesday at Fox Hospital in Oneida.
He was born in Conesville and lived in Grand Gorge for the past nine years.
He was an employee of the General Electric Co. in Schenectady for 27 years until his retirement in 1996.
He was fire police captain in the Conesville Fire Department.
He married Yvonne Merwin June 18, 1962.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Doug German of Grand Gorge; two daughters, Hope German of Grand Gorge and Colleen Lenz of Amsterdam; three sisters, Dorothy Knolls of Hudson, Fla., Esther Whirtley of Saugerties, and Frances Bevens of Bloomville; three brothers, William German of Fenton, N.J., Alton German of Cherry Valley, and Richard German of Schenectady; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
A calling hour will precede the service Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad, Grand Gorge 12434.
