Ronald R. Schur
March 28, 2000
Ronald R. Schur Sr., 59, of County Route 123, Mayfield, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.
He was born in Amsterdam and was a graduate of Johnstown schools. He was a lifelong area resident.
He was a machinist at the General Electric Co. for 33 years, retiring in 1998.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Mrs. Schur served in the Navy.
He was active in the Boy Scouts for many years.
He married Marie Delahanty in 1962.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Ronald R. Schur Jr. of Mayfield and Rodney W. Schur of Gloversville; his mother, Grace Schur of Johnstown; a sister, Donna Amburn of Texas; two brothers, Mahlon and David Schur, both of Florida; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity.
Arrangements are by the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Johnstown.

Ann Malec
March 27, 2000
Ann Malec, 80, of Edson Street, Amsterdam, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Poland Sept. 12, 1919, the daughter of Frank and Veronica Marciniec and came to Amsterdam when she was 2 years old. She was a 1938 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School and a graduate of Albany Business College.
She worked for the Montgomery County Department of Social Services. She retired from the state Department of Taxation and Finance in Albany.
She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church and a member of its Ladies Rosary Society. She was a member of St. John's Seniors.
She married John J. Malec Aug. 18, 1946. He died Sept. 8, 1989. She was also predeceased by a son, John F. Malec, July 12, 1988.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice McCord of Amsterdam; five grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, where members of the Rosary Society will conduct a service at 2:15 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church or to the American Heart Association.

Irene Sullivan
March 27, 2000
Irene C. Sullivan, 82, of Slater Street, Amsterdam, died Monday morning at St. Mary's Hospital following a short illness.
She was born Dec. 3, 1917, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Frank and Leonarda Pargulska Kozlowski. She was a 1936 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and a lifelong area resident.
She was employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. She then worked for Hanover Manufacturing Corp. before retiring. She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Sullivan was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union and was a former member of the St. Stanislaus Women's and Women's City Bowling League.
She married Kenneth J. Sullivan April 23, 1944.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include a son, Dennis Sullivan of Amsterdam; a daughter, Ellen Devine of Amsterdam; a sister, Martha Techmanski of Amsterdam; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Dora Cramer
March 27, 2000
Dora A. Cramer, 96, formerly of Stone Arabia Street, Nelliston, died Monday at Palatine Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was born April 6, 1903, in Stone Arabia, the daughter of Frederick and Iva Hinkle Heroth. She attended the former Stone Arabia Country School. She was a lifelong area resident.
She was employed by Beech-Nut Co. in Canajoharie for several years. She later worked in the cafeteria at Fort Plain Central School. She retired in 1957. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Stone Arabia; a member of the Ladies Circle of the church; former member of the Ladies Aide Society of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain; and a member of the Fort Plain-Nelliston Senior Citizens.
She married Clarence Cramer March 15, 1937. He died Oct. 20, 1979.
Survivors include two daughters, Alicia B. Cook of Dolgeville and Shirley D. Putman of Fort Plain; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a son, William Coleman, Feb. 15, 1988; and a grandson, Paul Cook, in 1957.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Friday at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain 13339; or Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie 13317.

H.B. Leszczynski
March 26, 2000
H.B. Leszczynski, 67, of North Little Rock, Ark., died Sunday.
He was born in Broadalbin.
Mr. Leszczynski was a retired Union Pacific Railroad electrician.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandy Miller of Little Rock, Ark., and Anna McCary and Terry Terrell, both of North Little Rock, Ark.; five sisters, Helen Kitchner of Fort Edward, Lottie Slezak of Amsterdam, Marcella Warner of North Carolina, Stella O'Brien of Schenectady, and Grace Kearns of Broadalbin; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three step-grandchildren.
A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Edgewood Memorial Park, North Little Rock, Ark.
Arrangements are by the North Little Rock Funeral Home.

Blanche DeNise
March 30, 2000
Blanche L. DeNise, 79, of Milton Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
She was born April 9, 1920, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Frank and Frances Wolak Ratka. She attended local schools.
Mrs. DeNise was employed at Bayshore Industries, Mohawk Carpets and Lawless Containers in Scotia, retiring in 1982.
She was a communicant of the Church of St. John the Baptist in Amsterdam.
Survivors include three daughters, Jeanette Iarusso of Amsterdam, Blanche F. DeNise Martz of Franklin, Ind., and Antionette DiCaterino of Amsterdam; a brother, Frank Ratka of Atlanta; three sisters, Laura Urba of Altamont, and Isabelle Draus and Mary Wojeski, both of Amsterdam; her companion, William Kwiatkowski of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Church of St. John the Baptist, Vanderveer Street, Amsterdam.
Following cremation, entombment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. John the Baptist Church or the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Arrangements are by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger, Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.

Elenora Schweizer
March 30, 2000
Elenora L. Schweizer, 90, of Charlton died Thursday.
She was born Jan. 22, 1910. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in fine arts-public music from Syracuse University in 1931 and a master's in education from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1963.
Mrs. Schweizer taught school for 10 years at Mohawk Elementary in Scotia.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Schenectady, past president of the First Reformed Women's League, past president of the Thursday Musical Club, and was involved in the Family & Child Service of Schenectady.
Survivors include her husband, F. David Schweizer; two sons, David L. Schweizer and Tod H. Schweizer, both of Charlton; a daughter, Aime E.S. Richards of Saratoga Springs; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to Family & Child Service, 246 Union St., Schenectady 12305.
Arrangements are by the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home Inc., Galway.

Doris Russell-Spencer
March 26, 2000
Doris Russell-Spencer, 81, of Zolfo Springs, Fla., formerly of Johnstown, died Sunday at the Royal Care Nursing Home in Avon Park, Fla., after a short illness.
She was born in Syracuse and lived in Broadalbin and Johnstown. She lived at the nursing home in Florida for the past several months. Mrs. Russell-Spencer was educated at Eastwood High School and received a degree in nutrition from the State University of New York at Morrisville.
She was a homemaker.
She was a communicant of First Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband of 40 years, Elmer J. Russell, died in 1981. Her second husband, Donald Spencer, died in 1993.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda Charbonneau of Shushan, Carol Slusarz of Fort Johnson, Pamela Wilson of Goshen, Conn., and Judy Fuge of Zolfo Springs, Fla.; four sons, Kenneth Russell of Gloversville, Larry A. Russell of Avon, Conn., Jade Russell of Broadalbin and George Russell of Johnstown.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, at First Baptist Church, 325 Comrie Ave., Johnstown.
Entombment, at a later date, will be in Fern Dale Cemetery in Johnstown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the First Baptist Church in Johnstown.
Arrangements are by the Fountain Funeral Home & Crematory, Avon Park, Fla.

Valentina Piatniski
March 29, 2000
Valentina "Tina" Zabuga Piatniski, 75, of Milton Avenue, Amsterdam, died Wednesday after being stricken at home.
She was born May 26, 1924, in Ukraine, the daughter of George and Stanislawa Wanjek. She and came to this country in 1956 and lived in Amsterdam for many years.
Mrs. Piatniski was a seamstress at the Ballston Spa Knitting Mill for 13 years and later worked at the Amsterdam Glove Co. for 12 years before retiring.
She was of the Roman Catholic faith.
She married Peter Zabuga in 1950. He died in 1977.
Survivors include three daughters, Ellie Selchta and Lydia Martin, both of Amsterdam, and Raisa "Rose" Cincetta of Schenectady; a sister, Nellie Woitowicz of Iselin, N.J.; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral is 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
