Helen B. Goodemote, 96, of Gloversville, died Thursday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility.
Born in Johnstown on June 23, 1903, she was the daughter of James and Bridget Kane Feeney. She was a graduate of Johnstown High School and Gloversville Business School and was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Goodemote was employed by the former Martin and Naylor Dept. Store, Gloversville. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Sanford Brooker, who died in 1951, and Harry Goodemote, who died in 1974.
Survivors include a cousin, John Kane of Johnstown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. David Tressic officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville.
Vonnya Mills
April 20, 2000
Vonnya L. Mills, 60, of Northampton, died Thursday at her home.
Born in Peuson, Tenn. on July 16, 1939, she was the daughter of Vonsel and Sybie Stovall Selles. She attended schools in Florida and moved to this area in 1984.
Mrs. Mills was employed by the Florida State Correctional Dept. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, Panama City, Fla.
Survivors include a son, Frank Mills of Mayfield; a sister, Leigh Reid of Panama City, Fla.; a grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville.
Carmen Cardillo
April 21, 2000
Carmen C. Cardillo, 87, of Yale Street, Amsterdam, died Friday at his home.
He was born in Amsterdam on June 12, 1912. He attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Cardillo was employed for Mohasco in Amsterdam for 42 years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the battle for Iwo Jima.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Julia Miskinis, whom he married on Jan. 31, 1942. She died in February.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence Cardillo of Amsterdam; a daughter, Barbara Bianchi of Hagaman; two sisters, Margaret Patterson of Schenectady and Mary Ricci of Canandaigua; three grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Interment is in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, in care of the funeral home.
Harry Hoke
April 20, 2000
Harry Ward Hoke, 87, of Fort Plain, died Thursday at Little Falls Hospital.
He was born in Jordanville.
Mr. Hoke owned and operated Hoke's Refrigeration. He was a member and former chaplin of the Fort Plain Masonic Lodge and a former member of the Freysbush Grange, the Sprout Brook Rod and Gun Club, the 115th Division of Muzzleloaders and the Rolling Mohawk Motorcycle Club.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He married the former Lena Case on June 15, 1938.
Besides his wife, survivors include a brother, Robert Hoke of Fort Plain and a sister, Ada Richards of Sand Hill.
A graveside service, including Masonic ceremonies, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Freysbush Cemetery. Burial will follow.
Arrangements are by the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
Lena DelCostello
April 22, 2000
Lena DelCostello, 81, of the High Rise Apartments, Amsterdam, died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken.
Born in Amsterdam on Oct. 2, 1918, she was the daughter of Michael and Serafina Frescura DelCostello. She was educated locally and was a lifelong area resident.
Ms. DelCostello was a seamstress at various local dress shops before her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the Hi-Lo Seniors and served on the bingo committee.
Survivors include a daughter, Blanca Murphy of Ballston Spa; four brothers, Michael DelCostello of Schenectady, Herman DelCostello of Gloversville and Albert and Carmen DelCostello, both of Amsterdam; two grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church. Interment is in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in care of the funeral home.
Mary Mykel

Mary Mykel, 46, of Wagners Hollow Road, Fort Plain, died suddenly Wednesday at home.
She was born June 28, 1953, in Amsterdam, a daughter of Robert K. and Margaret Putman Steffenhagen, and graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1971. She was a lifelong area resident.
She was a former employee of the Johnstown Knitting Mill Co. for many years and for the past three years was a homemaker.
She was the secretary for the Boiling Pot Aerie 3846 Fraternal Order of Eagles and past madam of the club. She was also past recorder for the Women of the Moose Lodge 987.
Survivors include her mother, Margaret E. Steffenhagen of Fort Plain; her companion, David VanAlstine of the town of Palatine; a son, Daniel Liebing of Nelliston; a daughter, Antasia VanAlstine of the town of Palatine; a sister, Cynthia E. Kesselring of Rochester; a brother, Robert E. Steffenhagen of Choctaw, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral is 7 p.m. Saturday at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, at a later date.
Calling hours are 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Albertha Hopkins, 82, of Guy Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Arrangements by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, are incomplete and will be announced.
Michael Williams
April 27, 2000
Michael James Williams, 51, of Riverside Drive, Fultonville, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after being stricken at home.
He was born May 14, 1948, in Glens Falls, the son of Edward J. and Florence Belter Williams. He was a 1966 graduate of Whitehall High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in biology and chemistry from the State University of New York at Oneonta in 1970 and a master's degree in biology and chemistry from SUNY-Albany in 1980.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam war and served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Danang, Vietnam, from 1970 to 1973.
He was a teacher in the Schenectady school system before moving to Fultonville. He had taught biology and chemistry at Fonda-Fultonville High School since 1978.
Mr. Williams was a communicant of Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Fonda-Fultonville PTA and the Teacher's Retirement System.
He was a past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 942 in Fonda and a past council member of Old Tryon County.
Survivors include his mother, Florence Belter Williams; two sons, Corey Michael Williams and Patrick Michael Williams, both of Fultonville; a daughter, Heather Michelle Williams of Fultonville; a brother, James Williams of Whitehall; two sisters, Barbara Simek of Coxsackie and Cheri Martell of Whitehall; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, with the Rev. Chris Hamm officiating.
Interment will be in Whitehall.
Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a fund for his children in care of Michael Mongin at Fonda-Fultonville Central School.
Clarence Snyder
April 26, 2000
Clarence A. Snyder, 84, formerly of Canal Street, Fort Plain, died Wednesday at Crestwood Nursing Home in Whippany, N.J., after a short illness.
He was born June 15, 1915, in the town of Palatine, the son of Arthur and Mabel Dillenbeck Snyder. He was educated in Canajoharie. He lived in Minaville from 1947 to 1999, moving to Fort Plain last year. In October he moved to New Jersey.
He was employed in generator production at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady, retiring in 1975.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Snyder was a communicant of St. John's Lutheran Church, Freysbush.
He married Genevieve Walts in March 1942. She died in May 1998.
Survivors include a son, Gordon L. Snyder of Parsippany, N.J.; and two cousins.
The funeral is 10 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Freysbush with the Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating.
Burial is in Freysbush Cemetery with full graveside military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain.

Jackson Perry

Jackson John "Jack" Perry, 87, of Sun City, Ariz., died Monday, April 10.
He was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Amsterdam, the son of Herbert and Agnes Perry. He graduated from Michigan State University in 1936 with a bachelor of science degree in physical education.
In 1937 he worked in Amsterdam in charge of recreational activities. In June 1940 he went to Watertown as superintendent of recreation and community activities. He later went to Syracuse with the recreation division of the Federal Security Agency and assumed the position of director of parks and recreation in Pittsfield, Mass., in 1945. In 1950 he took over as director of the Leominster, Mass., recreation center and was an assistant professor of recreation at the University of Massachusetts. In 1957 he became director of parks and recreation in Dayton, Ohio, retiring 20 years later.
Mr. Perry held numerous state and national positions with various recreational organizations including the National Recreation Association.
He moved to Sun City in 1979 where he was involved in local recreations programs as well as involvement with his church and the Ohio Club.
He married Virginia Healy Jan. 2, 1937. She died in 1987.
Survivors include his son, Daniel Perry of Adirondack; a brother, James L. Perry of Amsterdam; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at the Sunland Mortuary in Sun City, Ariz.
Burial is in Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, Ariz.
Calling hours will precede the service at 10:30 a.m.

Maggie Marceau
April 19, 2000
Maggie "Marjorie Jane" Marceau, 53, of Huson, Mont., died at home April 19.
She was born in Galway, was an honor student at Galway Central School and attended Spencer Business Institute. She moved to Los Angeles in 1969 and then to San Francisco, where she graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor's degree in horticulture.
She worked for the City Parks Service in Golden State Park.
Mrs. Marceau was a homemaker.
She married Stephen A. Marceau in 1986.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include four sons, Brandon Marceau, Luke Marceau, and Jack Marceau, all of Huson, and Jeffrey McChesney of San Francisco; a daughter, Jody Marie Marceau of Huson; her mother, Lena Denison of Galway; three brothers, Matthew Denison of Frenchtown, Tom Denison of Sumter, S.C., and David Denison of Galway; and a sister, Marlene Wyatt of Stevensville.
The funeral was Sunday in Missoula, Mont.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marceau Children's Education Fund, in care of the Clark Fork Valley Bank in Frenchtown.
