Norman Colburn
September 16, 1996
Norman D. Colburn, 81, formerly of Humphrey Road, Glen, died Monday at the Montgomery County Infirmary after a long illness.
Born July 5, 1915, in Easton, Pa., he was the son of Norman and Jennie Franklin Colburn. He attended schools in Easton and was graduate of Lafayette College of Easton with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He worked for the Baker Chemical Co. of Philipsburgh, N.J., then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Following his discharge he worked for Stange Co. in Chicago, Ill., and also for the Lawrence Livermore Atomic Research Laboratory at the University of California at Berkley. He retired in 1971 and settled in the Town of Glen.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
There are no known survivors.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Cecilia's Cemetery in Fonda.
There will no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Girard Cuyler
September 17, 1996
Girard Cuyler, 59, of South Pawling Street, Hagaman, died Tuesday afternoon at his home.
Born Nov. 21, 1936, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Louis and Bella VanderSluys Cuyler. Mr. Cuyler was a lifelong resident of Hagaman.
He was lastly employed as a maintenance worker at Wood and Hyde Leather Co. in Hagaman.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Cuyler is survived by three brothers, Dennis Cuyler, Gary Cuyler and Steve Nichols, all of Hagaman and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will take place in Parkview Crematory in Schenectady.
There are no funeral services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hagaman Youth Commission.
Arrangements are by the Betz Funeral Home Inc, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.

Antoinette Auriemma
September 18, 1996
Mrs. Antoinette Auriemma, 91, of Poplar Road, Amsterdam, died today at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born June 13, 1905, she was the daughter of Angelo and Vincenza DiCaprio. She attended Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong resident of the Amsterdam area.
Mrs. Auriemma was employed as a spinner for the former Mohawk Carpet Mills until retiring in the mid-1950s. She assisted her husband in the family agriculture business for several years after her retirement.
Mrs. Auriemma was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She was also a past member of the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
She married Joseph S. Auriemma on Aug. 16, 1924. He died March 17, 1970.
Mrs. Auriemma is survived by two sons, Ralph J. Auriemma of Mayfield and Nicholas Auriemma of Amsterdam; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Auriemma was predeceased by her daughter, Marion Sala, in 1990.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam or to the Cranesville Volunteer Fire Department.

Leona Hoffman
September 29, 1996
Leona Jackson Hoffman, 66, of County Route 107, Johnstown, died Sunday morning at home after a long illness.
Born in the Keck Center section of Johnstown, Mrs. Hoffman attended Johnstown schools.
She worked for the Lee Dyeing Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1990.
Mrs. Hoffman was a member of the Women of the Moose; the American Association of Retired Persons; and was a weight reporter for the TOPS organization.
She married Ernest H. Hoffman on Feb. 2, 1952.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, E. William "Bill" Hoffman of Richmond, Va., and Jim Hoffman of Fonda; a daughter, Virginia Saltsman of Fort Plain; two sisters, Thelma Shutter of Palatine Bridge and Marion "Jackie" Smith of Gloversville; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association.

Francis Larson
September 28, 1996
Francis Larson, 86, formerly of Fifth Street, Scotia, died Saturday at the Glendale Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1910, in Norwich, he was the son of Fred and Carrie Root Larson. Mr. Larson was educated in the Oneonta schools.
He was a glovemaker for the former Premier Glove Co. in Fonda.
Mr. Larson attained the rank of sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and subsequently served in the Naval Reserve.
He was a member of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Association and the American Legion in Fonda.
Mr. Larson was of the Protestant faith.
He married Edah Larson on March 4, 1939. She died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Bryon Larson of Fonda; a daughter, Sherry Larson of Schenectady; three granddaughters and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Jackson and Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, with the Rev. Christopher Hamm, pastor of Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
A calling hour, beginning at 9 a.m., will precede the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.

Fred Olsen
September 28, 1996
Fred I. Olsen, 81 of Roosevelt Road, Amsterdam, died Saturday at the Canandaigua Veterans Hospital after a long illness.
Born Nov. 29, 1914, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Thomas and Mabel Youngs Olsen. Mr. Olsen attended Amsterdam schools. He was a firefighter for the Navy Depot in Scotia, retiring in 1973.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in a tank division in Belgium and Germany.
Mr. Olsen was of the Protestant faith.
He married Jane Moore Olsen on Feb. 21, 1940.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Carol Ann Palombi of Marietta, Ga.; and a granddaughter.
There will be no calling hours.
Cremation will take place at the Whitehaven Memorial Park Crematory, Canandaigua.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity or to the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz Funeral Home, Amsterdam.

Frank Guelli
September 28, 1996
Frank A. Guelli, 58, of 185 Wild Oak Drive, Southington, Conn., and a former resident of Fonda, died Saturday at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Roselyn (Tumminelli) Guelli.
Born Oct. 15, 1937, in Rochester, he was the son of Helen Howie Guelli of Rochester and Placita Guelli. Mr. Guelli was a sales representative. He was a member of the Portland Men's Golf Association, the Pequabuck Golf Club and the Quartette Club in New Britain. He was a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church.
Survivors, including his wife and mother, are his children, Rachelle Blume, Frank Guelli Jr. of Oswego, Joy Tompkins, and Michael Guelli; a brother, Michael Guelli of Astoria, Ore.; two sisters, Nancy Romano of Rochester, and Joan Perry of Marion; nine grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Mary Our Queen Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

James Dern
October 10, 1996
James R. Dern, 77, of Carlisle Road, Canajoharie, died Thursday at home after a long illness.
Born in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Feb. 21, 1919, he was the son of Alfred and Alma Aldrich Dern. Mr. Dern was a graduate of Southside High School there and was a 1941 graduate of Yale University.
During World War II, Mr. Dern served with the Navy.
He came to the Canajoharie area in 1946.
For many years, he was assistant plant manager for Lifesavers, retiring in 1984.
Mr. Dern was a board member of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, Canajoharie School and the Community Youth Center; a member of the Arkell Hall Foundation, Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Mohawk District Sir William Johnson Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and treasurer of the Community Chest.
He was a member of the Canajoharie Reformed Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Spicer Dern, whom he married May 15, 1943; a son, Michael J. Dern of Evergreen, Colo.; three daughters, Judith H. Dern of Seattle, Susan D. Plank of Fort Gordon, Ga., and Ann D. Freebing of East Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, and one niece and one nephew.
Cremation will be in Leatherstocking Crematory in Cherry Valley.
A memorial service will be held at Canajoharie Reformed Church at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Canajoharie Youth Center or to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Arrangements are by the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, Canajoharie.

John Driscoll
October 10, 1996
John E. Driscoll Jr., 67, of Tennantville Road, Northville, died Thursday at home after a long illness.
Born in Gloversville, Mr. Driscoll was grew up in Saratoga and was a graduate and valedictorian of his class at St. Peter's Academy in Saratoga Springs. He also attended Manhattan College.
He was a pipefitter out of Union Local 105 in Schenectady and a construction worker lastly at the General Electric Company's Kesselring Nuclear Power Plant in West Milton, retiring in 1993. He was also a self-employed general contractor.
Mr. Driscoll was a founding member of the Edinburg Emergency Squad.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, where he taught religious education.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Carroll Driscoll, whom he married Aug. 15, 1953; three sons, John E. Driscoll III of Mayfield, M. Dennis Driscoll of Edinburg, and Terence Driscoll of Northville; a daughter, Mrs. Tammy Reidell of Edinburg; his mother, Aimee Driscoll of Edinburg; a sister, Anne Mannella of Chicago; and three grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., during which the Rosary Society will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville.

Russell Hayes
October 7, 1996
Russell Emery Hayes, 40, of Greensboro, N.C., formerly of Johnstown, died Monday in Greensboro after a short illness.
Born in Gloversville, Mr. Hayes was a 1974 graduate of Johnstown High School. He attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College and the Utica Business School. He moved to North Carolina in 1984.
He was a customer service representative for American Express.
Survivors include a son, Jason C. Hayes of North Carolina; his father, Albert Hayes of Johnstown; four brothers, Albert J. Hayes and William Smith both of Johnstown; and Charles A. and Gary W. Hayes, both of North Carolina; and six sisters, Elaine Scutt of Canajoharie; Madoline McCue of Johnstown; Barbara Smith of N.C.; Patricia Weaver of N.C.; Joan Dalton of Virginia; and Colleen Daniels of Virginia.
Services will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. from the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, corner of Melcher and Main streets, Johnstown.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
