Beverly Bennett Schmidt, 73, of Country Club Lane, Fort Johnson, died this morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after being ill since June.
She was born June 5, 1927, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of John and Margaret Wildman Bennett. She was educated in Iowa.
She lived in Fort Madison, Iowa, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, moving to Amsterdam in 1966.
Mrs. Schmidt was a homemaker and was active in many civic organizations. She was a member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, having served as president and as chairman of the gift shop for more than 25 years.
She was a member of the local Children's Aid Society, where she served as president and was chairman of the scholarship committee. She was also involved in Girl Scouts of American as a leader and as a district council member. She was also a member of the board of directors of the YMCA and was an honorary member at the time of her death. Several years ago she was honored as one of Amsterdam's Outstanding Citizens.
Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the Montgomery County United Way board of directors.
She was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church and its Altar Society.
She married Carl A. Schmidt Jr. Dec. 21, 1946.
Survivors, in addition to her husband, include three daughters, Deborah Julander of Denver, Colo., Kristen Dallos of Albany, and Lori Carroll of Muscatine, Iowa; a son, Jefferey Schmidt of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Joyce Pappas of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Carol Beck of Colchester, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements by the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, will be announced.
Cremation will be at Vale Cremator Crematorium in Schenectady.
Interment is in Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa, at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Lewis Buchner
December 7, 2000
Lewis L. Buchner, 94, formerly of Wesleyan Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.
He was born June 19, 1906, in Amsterdam, the son of Frank G. and Jessie Adabar Buchner. He was a 1925 graduate of Amsterdam High School and a lifelong area resident.
He and his brother Malcolm owned and operated the Buchner Brothers Painting Co. for many years, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Buchner was a member of the Painters Union in Amsterdam and the United Methodist Church on Golf Course Road.
During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army with the military police during the Battle of the Bulge and at Cologne. He was awarded five battle stars.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Buchner, in 1958, and his wife, the former Helen Evenden, Oct. 4, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathy L. Snyder of Hilton; a brother, Malcolm Buchner of Amsterdam; a sister, Margaret Phillips of Amsterdam; and four grandsons.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Cal Briggs-Harris officiating.
Interment is in Fairview Cemetery.
A calling hour will begin at noon, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church, Golf Course Road, Amsterdam.
Mary Kenney
December 7, 2000
Mary Hoshlyk Kenney, 88, of Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam, formerly of Broadalbin, died Thursday at Montgomery Meadows after a long illness.
She was born Jan. 4, 1912, in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Nickolas and Anna Damaski Hoshlyk Sr. She lived in Broadalbin since 1925, and moved to Montgomery Meadows more than two years ago.
Mrs. Kenney was a winder with Broadalbin Knitting Mill, Broadalbin, for many years.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Broadalbin American Legion Auxiliary.
She married Harold Kenney Oct. 10, 1938. He died Dec. 25, 1965.
Survivors include three brothers, Stephen Hoshlyk and John Hoshlyk, both of Broadalbin, and Fred Hoshlyk of Clifton Park; three nieces; one nephew; one grand-niece; and several cousins.
The funeral is 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St., Broadalbin, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's Church with the Rev. Timothy Mangan as celebrant.
Interment is in St. Basil's Ukrainian Cemetery, Broadalbin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville; or the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany 12205.
Sister Isidore Geiskopf
December 6, 2000
Sister M. Isidore Geiskopf, formerly Eunice Geiskopf, of Latham, died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Provincial House.
She was born in Boonville and was a sister of St. Joseph for 73 years.
She was a graduate of Boonville High school, the Utica School of Commerce, and received a bachelor's degree from the College of St. Rose.
Sister Isidore taught in Lyons and was principal at St. Patrick's School in Syracuse and St. Augustine's School in Troy. She taught at St. Peter's Academy in Rome and St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam.
From 1950 to 1956, she served as assistant provincial superior of the Albany Province of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Survivors include a sister, Muriel Evans of Boonville.
The funeral is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady Queen of Virgins Chapel, St. Joseph's Provincial House.
Burial is in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Heritage Room of the Provincial House, with vespers at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Development Office, 385 Watervliet-Shaker road, Latham 12110.
Arrangements are by the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Lansingburgh.
Marraye Morrison
December 6, 2000
Marraye L. Smith Morrison, 7, of North Market Street, Johnstown, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.
She was born Jan. 12, 1993, in Gloversville, the daughter of Jason and Mindy Smith Morrison. She was a student at Warren Street Elementary School.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her maternal grandparents, Donna and Robert Smith of Johnstown; maternal great-grandmother, Lucille Burk of Phoenix, Ariz.; paternal grandparents, Robert and Joan Morrison of Johnstown; paternal great-grandmother, Laura Morrison of Johnstown; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Saturday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown, with the Rev. Don English, pastor of Life Christian Center, Johnstown, officiating.
Burial is in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Rose Smigley
November 17, 2000
Rose DiMezza Smigley, 80, of Hesperia, Calif., formerly of Gloversville, died Nov. 17 in Hesperia after a long illness.
She was born in Gloversville and moved to California in 1970.
She worked for the Leader-Herald for many years. She also worked for the U.S. government in the bankruptcy department, retiring in the late 1970s.
Mrs. Smigley was a former member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She married Cleo Smigley in 1982. He died in 1987.
Survivors include two brothers, David DiMezza and James DiMezza, both of Gloversville.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 S. Main St., Gloversville.
Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, in the spring.
A calling hour will precede the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church building fund; Mountain Valley Hospice; or to a charity of one's choice.
Henry Reeve
January 9, 2001
Henry F. Reeve Jr., 74, of Route 10, Canajoharie, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
He was born in Avon, Conn., and lived in Burlington, Conn., until 1988.
He worked for Oneglia & Gervasini Construction Co. in Torrington, Conn.
Mr. Reeve was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a life member of the Burlington Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Lavorgna Reeve; three daughters, Jane VanNostrand of Burlington, Catherine Macias of Torrington and Teresa McCue of Canton, Conn.; a son, Henry Reeve of Southfield, Mass.; two step-daughters; four grandsons; and three step-grandchildren.
The funeral is 9:45 a.m. Saturday at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, Conn., followed at 10:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, Collinsville, Conn.
Burial is in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Burlington, Conn.
Calling hours are 3 to 5 and 8 to 10 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Local arrangements are by the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam.
Gary Noone
January 10, 2001
Gary Noone, 60, of Lampman Road, Broadalbin, died Wednesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
He was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Amsterdam, the son of Earl and Marjorie Vosburgh Noone. He was a 1958 graduate of Johnstown High School and a lifelong area resident.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1963.
Mr. Noone was a plant manager in the textile industry in New York, California and Mississippi. He retired in 1985.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He married Loretta Saltsman July 4, 1986.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Martin Noone of Atlanta and Casey Noone of Broadalbin; a daughter, Bridgit Noone of Broadalbin; his mother, of Johnstown; three brothers, Thomas Noone of Calabash, N.C., James Noone of Rochester, and Charles Noone of Glens Falls; and one grandson.
The funeral is 8 p.m. today at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown, with the Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor of St. Patrick's Church, officiating.
Burial is in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.
Calling hours begin at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
William Hotaling
January 12, 2001
William A. Hotaling, 58, of Vedder Street, Amsterdam, died this morning at home following a long illness.
He was born Nov. 27, 1942, in Gloversville, the son of Jacob and Charlotte Seeley Hotaling. He moved to Worcester and later to Broadalbin, where he attended Broadalbin High School. He lived in Amsterdam for the past 26 years.
Mr. Hotaling was a fibre glass applicator at General Electric Co. in Schenectady, where he was employed for 33 years. He retired due to medical disability in 1996.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Cuban missile crisis.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, the Pine Tree Rifle Club, and the NRA.
He married Ellen L. Gibson July 2, 1965.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Douglas M. Hotaling and William R. Hotaling, both of Amsterdam; a daughter, Dawn R. Hotaling of Amsterdam; his mother, Charlotte Hotaling Gibson of Rotterdam; two brothers, James Hotaling of Schenectady and Theodore Hotaling of Loudonville; a sister, Gail Millias of Perth; two step-sisters, Elaine Novak and Dennice Davis, both of Broadalbin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
Cremation is at the Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., Broadalbin.
