A graveside service for A. Elizabeth Donovan will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson. Friends are invited to attend.

John L. Maloney
June 7, 2001
John L. Maloney, 63, of Griffis Road, Mayfield, died Thursday after being stricken at home.
Born in Amsterdam April 12, 1938, he was the son of Maurice and Helen Gent Maloney.
Mr. Maloney was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute, Amsterdam, and was employed by the Grand Union Company until retiring in 1990 due to ill health.
He was a former communicant of St. Mary's Church, Amsterdam.
Mr. Maloney is survived by two sons, John Maloney of Norwalk, CT, and Matthew Maloney of Ellicott City, MD; five daughters, Kathleen Leo of Johnstown, Andrea Gurga of Perth, Colleen Gallup and Christine Paris, both of Amsterdam and Melissa Maloney of Springfield, MA; one sister, Maureen Hand of Amsterdam; 13 grandchildren; and nieces.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass which will be celebrated Saturday morning at 9:15 o'clock at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main St., Amsterdam.
Memorial gifts in Mr. Maloney's name may be made to Community Hospice, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Lois June Cole
June 8, 2001
Mrs. Lois June Hayes Cole, 49, of State Highway 30, Amsterdam NY, died Friday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
She was born June 11, 1951 in Amsterdam, the daughter of William and Elsie Frye Hayes. She lived in Ormond By The Sea, Fla. for 14 years and returned to Amsterdam this past December.
Mrs. Cole was a member of Johnstown Eagles Auxiliary.
She was married Sept. 24, 1995 to Richard A. Cole, who survives.
She is also survived by a son, Brian Scott Hayes of Broadalbin, NY; her mother, Elsie Hayes of Broadalbin, NY; three stepdaughters, Lori Marshall and Becky Belden, both of Gloversville, NY and Elena Willett of Johnstown, NY; a stepson, Robert Cole, of Ephratah, NY; five sisters, Hazel McKeever of Perth and Cynthia Spencer, Beth Hayes, Susan Serafin and Nancy Leach, all of Broadalbin, NY; six brothers, David Hayes of Amsterdam and William Hayes Jr., Daniel Hayes, Harry Hayes, Thomas Hayes and John Hayes, all of Broadalbin, NY; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces; nephews; aunts; uncles and cousins.
She was predeceased by her father, William Hayes and her twin brothers, Robert and Richard Hayes.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Jeffords and Stewart Funeral Home, 85 West Main St., Broadalbin. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family at Perth Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Moyer, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin, officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.

Richard M. Polikowski
June 10, 2001
Richard M. Polikowski, 52, of First Street, Amsterdam, passed away Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken.
Born in Amsterdam September 28, 1948, a son of Michael and Dorothy Seeley Polikowski, he was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam in 1966.
Mr. Polikowski was a Senior Investigator with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department. He also worked for many years at the General Electric Co. in Schenectady before becoming an investigator.
He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.
He was also a member of the Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff's Association, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1185 in Johnstown, and a former member of the Sacandaga Boat Club.
Mr. Polikowski married the former Margaret F. Atkinson June 29, 1968.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Matthew M. Polikowski of Amsterdam, and John R. Polikowski, also of Amsterdam. Nieces, nephews and a cousin, Thomas Murey of Broadalbin, also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Investigative Child Abuse Network, P.O. Box 124, Fort Johnson, N.Y. 12070.

Hazel R. Bertschmann
June 11, 2001
Ms. Hazel R. Bertschmann, 82, Monroe Street, Little Falls, died Monday afternoon, June 11, 2001 at Little Falls Hospital after a long illness. She was a former resident of Fort Plain, having lived there for over 30 years.
Born April 18, 1919 in Johnstown to Emil and Nettie Richards Bertschmann, she was educated in Johnstown schools.
Ms. Bertschmann was employed as a nurses' aide at several private homes in the Schenectady area.
She was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her sister, Catherine B. Kearns of Fort Plain.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, with the Rev. Nancy Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie, N.Y. 13317.

William A. Mickels Jr.
June 12, 2001
Mr. William A. Mickels Jr., 65, of Voorhees Street, Amsterdam, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was born June 18, 1935 in Amsterdam, a son of the late William and Bernice Kosinski Mickels. He was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and was a lifelong area resident.
For several years, he was employed by the City of Amsterdam. He operated his own trucking and maintenance company. He also worked for Coleco Industries and Esquire Novelty Co. before retiring due to illness.
He was a member of the former St. Joseph's Church and St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman.
Survivors include two sons, Mark and John Mickels, both of Amsterdam; three grandchildren, Joshua, Danielle and Jonathan Mickels; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are by Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam.

Janet Hocking
May 23, 2001
Janet Carol Hocking, 62, of South Atlantic Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, FL, a resident since 1989, died May 23, 2001 at home.
Mrs. Hocking, a homemaker, was born in Springfield, Mass., and moved to Florida from Amsterdam. She enjoyed painting and golf.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Dean; three daughters, Denise Hocking, Rochester, Diane Dobbs, Schenectady and Michelle Hocking, Amsterdam; a brother, William Raymond, New Smyrna Beach; two sisters, Alice Gorse, Harriman, and Donna Schaeffer, Cobleskill; and four grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32119.
A memorial service will be held at Greater Grace Community Church, Malta, on June 16.

Robert G. Parslow
June 7, 2001
Robert G. Parslow, 65, of Cady Road, Malone, formerly of Schenectady, died Thursday, June 7, 2001 at Albany Medical Center in Albany, following a brief illness.
Born October 21, 1935 in Amsterdam, he was the son of the late Harmon G. and Grace Hopkins Parslow. He was a graduate of the Class of 1953 at Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Mr. Parslow was a Second Lieutenant in the Army National Guard. Over the years he donated many gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.
He retired in 1996 from General Electric in Schenectady where he had been employed for over 40 years as an inspector in the Insulating Division.
He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America.
Survivors include two daughters, Robin Parslow of California and Kelly Parslow of New York.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner and Sanvidge Funeral Home 312 Hoosick St., Troy.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Amsterdam.

William A. Mickels Jr.
June 12, 2001

Alice Louise Smith
June 13, 2001
Mrs. Alice Louise D. Smith, 97, of the Claxton Manor, Herkimer, formerly of High Street, Fort Plain, died Wednesday at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, after a short illness.
She was born October 18, 1903 in Nelliston, the daughter of Edward and Esther Smith Dygert. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1922 graduate of Fort Plain High School.
Mrs. Smith was the owner and operator with her husband of Eagle Oil Company in Fort Plain and was still active with the business until her death. Mrs. Smith was also a homemaker, an avid seamstress and enjoyed crafts as a hobby.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the Daughters of the Nile and the Otsquago Chapter #297 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Fort Plain Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was a 59-year member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church and a member of the Women's Guild of the church.
She was married October 28, 1926 to Corliss H. Smith. He died December 12, 1997.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Paul Oldick of Fort Plain; a sister, Hazel Dygert of Nelliston; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, George and Evelyn Chickering of Ridgewood, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Kevin Conroy of Middletown; Kurt Conroy of Saratoga Springs, Sean Conroy of Nashville, N.C., Danny Oldick of St. Johnsville, Joel Oldick of Little Falls, Jay Conroy of Nashville N.C., and Debbie Oldick of Herkimer; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Fort Plain Reformed Church with the Rev. Nancy Ryan and the Rev. Bob Vanderlaan officiating. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie. Contributions in Alice's memory may be made to Mid-County volunteer Ambulance Service or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, in care of the funeral home.

William F. Beyer

William F. Beyer, 82, of State Highway 30, Gloversville, died Thursday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin.

Mary Frances Kelly
June 12, 2001
Mary Frances Kelly, 100, of Livingston, N.Y., died Tuesday, June 12, 2001 at Adventist Nursing Home of Livingston where she had resided since 1981.
Born April 28, 1901 in Kelly's Station, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Marion (Levey) Kelly.
Surviving are two nephews, Harry Johnson of Albany and Christian Auspelmyer of Amsterdam.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2001 at Viewland Cemetery of Rotterdam. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Adventist Nursing Home of Livingston. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are by the Yadak-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Germantown, N.Y.

Antoinette M. Fiorillo
June 13, 2001
Antoinette M. Fiorillo, 21, of Florida Avenue, Amsterdam, passed away late Wednesday morning at Ellis Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam October 14, 1979, a daughter of Ralph and Bernadette Bidanset Fiorillo, she was a lifelong area resident. She attended Tecler School and Liberty Enterprises in Amsterdam. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam.
Antoinette enjoyed collecting dolls and videos. She loved her family dearly and her nieces and nephews as they loved her.
In addition to her beloved parents, Ralph and Bernadette Fiorillo, survivors include a dear brother, Ralph Fiorillo II of Amsterdam; a dear sister, Nicola Gabriel and her husband, Tom, of Amsterdam; a dear sister, Andrea Fiorillo of Amsterdam; her loving maternal grandmother, Anna Bidanset of Broadalbin; her loving paternal grandparents, Ted and Betty Vassi Fiorillo of Amsterdam. Aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Friday from 5 to 8 p.m at the funeral home.
